Chapter 1738
Chapter 1738:
“I recall warning you not to harm the Swain siblings. Did you not hear me?”
“Mr. Sampson, this woman is the one who hit Hazel. You have to stand up for her…”
Zora, afraid of Harlee herself, had no choice but to call for backup.
The Sampson family held the highest authority in Winbrough and was the richest in the city, with extended connections in Baythorn. No one in Winbrough would dare cross Michael.
Michael had already been captivated by Harlee’s beauty. It wasn’t until he heard Zora’s voice that he remembered he was there to stand up for Hazel. He said, “Alright, I’m sure Ms. Sanderson did not mean any harm to Hazel. There’s likely a misunderstanding here. Apologize to one another, and we can let this go.”
Michael generally sided with Hazel, except when someone more striking caught his attention.
“Ms. Sanderson, please, let’s resolve this peacefully. Can I ask you to ease up on Hazel for my sake?”
Hazel clenched her fists in frustration. This woman dared to compete for Michael’s attention. It was unacceptable. Hazel needed to come up with a plan to win back Michael’s favor.
“What do you think you are?” Harlee sneered, eyeing him as though he were insignificant.
Michael had never been spoken to like this before. Strangely, he found himself slightly thrilled.
“Feisty! I like that!”

“The last person who said that…”
Images of Brixton flashed through Harlee’s mind, and she trailed off. Since he’d changed his ways, he was still among the living.
Harlee declared, “Quit acting like you’re something special. You’re nothing to me.”
As Harlee’s lethal gaze swept over him, Michael’s face tensed, momentarily too scared to even feel anger.
Hazel recoiled slightly, her neck shrinking with fear.
“Michael, I’m fine. You don’t need to defend me. I believe Virginia wouldn’t join forces with outsiders to bully me, would she? Virginia?”
“Me, bullying you?” Virginia boldly called out Hazel’s feigned innocence and victimhood. Harlee had given Virginia a platform to retaliate. Throughout her life, Virginia had always been the one being bullied.
Hazel was rendered speechless by Virginia’s biting retort, her expression turning sour. What was going on? Why was Virginia becoming so tough?
Before Hazel could say another word, Virginia raised her hand and slapped her once more.
“This slap is the price you pay for provoking Michael into hitting my brother.”
Hazel, her face still swollen from the previous slap, was left utterly shocked. Virginia then approached Harlee and said, “Harlee, thanks for stepping in once more. However, this time I’d rather not trouble you, so…”
Virginia was interrupted by Harlee’s cold interjection, “Want to strike that man?”noveldrama
“Huh?” Virginia looked shocked.
Harlee repeated her question patiently. To everyone’s surprise, it was Ulises who responded, “I do. Harlee, may I?”
“Absolutely, if you end up killing him, I’ll handle the fallout.”
The moment Harlee finished speaking, Ulises’s fist flew out, striking Michael’s face without hesitation.
After Harlee had wired a million dollars to Virginia and spent almost as much on clothing for the entire Swain family, Ulises realized that Harlee wielded more power than he had ever imagined. Harlee wasn’t someone who thought highly of herself, but if the Wallace family, the Welch family, and the Sampson family didn’t matter to her, it could only mean she was incredibly powerful. Ulises saw this as a chance to protect his sister and improve their family’s tough living conditions.
