When Her "Death" Couldn't Break Him

Chapter 1978

Chapter 1978 Back To His Old Ways

"I'm really sorry. Something urgent came up. Can I come by a little later?” Denise asked.

"How much longer? We're off duty after five," the nurse replied. "We don't control payments, I hope you understand."

Denise gripped the phone tighter. "I understand. I'll be there before five."

"All right.”

After hanging up, Denise had no time to wallow in frustration. With Magnus gone, she had no choice but to go back and ask the manager for help.

Unfortunately, he couldn't do much either. “I already had finance give you a hundred thousand in advance. I really can't bend the rules again."

The manager was just an employee too.

The light in Denise's eyes faded.

What do I do now?

The manager knew this was partly his fault. He shouldn't have given the money to Magnus without being sure about his character.

"Denise, I can secretly give you twenty thousand. You know my wife manages all my finances."

That twenty thousand was part of the manager's personal savings. This wasn't the time for Denise to turn him down. Her eyes filled with gratitude.

“Thank you, really. Thank you.”

"Don't worry. Everyone goes through tough times," the manager said gently. "No need to be embarrassed. I've already told someone to report this. They'll find Magnus."

Denise nodded. "Okay."

Still, twenty thousand wasn't enough to cover her parents' hospital bills. After she left, Denise had no choice but to humble herself and ask others for help.

But everyone knew about her situation. They were afraid she wouldn't be able to pay them back.

And honestly, everyone was tight on money.

Though some felt sorry for her, few were willing to lend her anything. In the end, she only managed to gather a few thousand.

Just as Denise was wondering whether to take out a loan, a man in a suit stepped in front of her. "I can give you the money," he said, "but I need a favor in return."

"What?" Denise looked at him, puzzled.noveldrama

Maybe thinking she wouldn't believe him, the man pulled out a card. "There's a hundred thousand on this Use it to pay the hospital first We can talk later."

After a brief pause, Denise took the card.

"Thank you."

She didn't have time to think. She just wanted her parents to keep getting treated. No matter what this man might ask of her, she was ready.

She took a taxi to the hospital and paid off the bill right away. Only then did she finally feel some relief.

When Denise stepped out of the hospital, a luxury car was already waiting out front. The window rolled down, revealing a man with a cold expression.

"Get in."

“Okay.” Denise didn't hesitate and got in the car.

Once inside, the man handed her a business card. “I'm Sven Lindberg. I need your help with something. It's about Magnus."

Denise looked at the car she was sitting in, her eyes full of disbelief. Just the starting price on this car had to be a million.

Does he know Magnus? Could Magnus have been telling the truth all along, that he really did have money?

It was like Sven could see the doubt

on her face. "Magnus isn't a great guy," he said, "but since he's been with you. I've noticed some changes .

He's not a good guy...

Denise had always felt Magnus was a little lazy, maybe selfish. But then she thought about the times he'd bought her food, promised her money once he had more, even said he'd help treat her parents

He didn't seem all that bad then.

But that day, when he disappeared with the money meant to save his own parents, she lost all faith in him.

"What's your relationship with him?" she asked.

"There's no connection between us," Sven said flatly. “I came to you because I want to use you to teach him another lesson."

Hearing that, Denise looked uneasy. “You're not asking me to hurt him, are you?"

Sven hadn't expected that, despite everything, this woman still didn't want to do anything to harm Magnus.
