When Her "Death" Couldn't Break Him

Chapter 1976

Chapter 1976 The Importance Of Money

The manager knew all about Denise's family situation. He let out a deep sigh.

"Denise, you're a good kid,” he told her. “But your parents' condition is like a bottomless pit. Even if you had a fortune, it might still not be enough. You should think about stopping. Save your money and make sure your folks live comfortably.❞

But Denise shook her head. "I hear what you're saying, and you're not wrong. But I just can't do it."

She couldn't bear the thought of stopping treatment. She couldn't just watch them die. As long as there was even the slightest hope, she had to try everything to keep them alive.

“All right then. I'll have the finance department wire you a hundred thousand. Will that be enough for now?" Denise nodded quickly, her eyes welling with gratitude. “That's more than enough. Thank you.”

The manager gave another sigh. “You don't have to thank me. We're all working far from home. Helping each other is the right thing to do."

"I'm going to get back to work now, Sir," Denise said.

She didn't know how else to repay his kindness, except to work even harder and not let him down.

"Go ahead."

"Okay."

Denise left the office. Shortly after, Magnus walked in.noveldrama

The manager shook his head. “Such a great young woman. It's a shame she's being weighed down by her family."

"Really?" Magnus asked.

"Your friend Denise, don't you know her situation?” the manager asked with a frown.

He's so heartless. After all the help Denise has given him, he doesn't know the first thing about her.

“Oh. I know,” Magnus said slowly. "She's definitely had a tough time."

“She used to be a top student at Torthbury University. She dropped out to take care of her parents and ended up working here," the

his hand. "Life really isn't fair."

Magnus had come to speak with the manager about work-related stuff, but instead he ended up listening as the man vented about life.

"Look at this place. We've got rich kids with no brains and even less heart, but they've got money pouring in. They start life way ahead. And then you've got folks like us and Denise, Struggling just to pay hospital bills..."

As he was talking, the accountant arrived with a thick envelope of cash.

“Here's the money,” the manager said. "Give this to Denise and tell her to pay the medical bills." "Got it." Magnus took the envelope.

It felt surprisingly heavy in his hand. Just a hundred thousand, and it weighed on him like a brick.

He stepped out and went looking for Denise. He asked one of her coworkers, “Hey, where's Denise?”

"She's in Room 600 upstairs,” the colleague answered. Then added, "Is it time again for her to pay her parents' bills?"

“You knew that?” Magnus asked, surprised. Apparently, everyone at work knew about Denise's situation.

"She has to pay every month. We all know. It's like a bottomless pit. Even if she made hundreds of thousand it still wouldn't be enough. Unless some multi-millionaire takes a liking to her."

Magnus hummed and went upstairs. He kept thinking about what the colleague had said. If he had a few million lying around, Denise wouldn't have to struggle like this.

For the first time, Magnus felt something that might've been regret. Why had he thrown his money away like it meant nothing? Why had he made one reckless decision after another?

Now he understood the true value of money.

When he reached Room 600, he stopped dead in his tracks. He saw a sleazy-looking man's hand resting on the small of Denise's back, clearly making an unwanted advance.
