When Her "Death" Couldn't Break Him

Chapter 1975

Chapter 1975 His Parents Had Passed

"I already paid the hospital fees. If you leave now, they won't refund it," Denise said, her voice tight with

emotion as she looked at her parents. Their hair had turned almost completely gray, and their bodies seemed weaker every time she saw them.

The money she made barely covered the basics, just enough to keep them in the hospital and pay for things like chemotherapy.

Magnus had asked her earlier why she looked so down. It was because every time she came to see her parents, she was filled with guilt. No matter how hard she worked, she still couldn't earn enough to truly take care of them.

After chatting for a bit, Denise excused herself, afraid that her heavy emotions would affect her parents. Magnus was waiting in the corridor outside. He had caught snippets of her conversation and hadn't expected to see a family struggling so much in this day and age.noveldrama

And yet, even with their hardship, her parents hadn't given up on life.

When Denise came out, Magnus walked with her. Letting out a sigh, he said, "Lately I've been thinking I'm the most miserable guy in the world. But after seeing you and your family, I realize I've got it easy."

Denise forced a smile. “Don't dwell on it. Everyone has their own life to live, right?”

Magnus nodded. "You've been working so hard. Let me treat you to a big meal today."

“No need for that. I'm fine with something simple,” Denise replied. She was used to living frugally.

“No way,” Magnus said firmly. “It's my money, and I'm spending it.”

“But don't you need to save up to take care of your family?” she asked, confused.

"My parents are gone. There's no one left for me to take care of," Magnus said, almost casually.

Hearing that, Denise looked over at him with sympathy in her eyes. "I'm sorry."

"Why are you sorry?" he asked.

"I didn't know your parents had passed."

As she thought about it, Denise realized that in a way, she was luckier than Magnus. At least her parents were still here, still able to be with her. Even in tough times, having family by one's side made all the difference.

Now it made sense why Magnus sometimes seemed lost, even a little odd, and why he'd ended up on the street. He had no one.

Magnus didn't notice the shift in her expression. “It's fine,” he said, brushing it off.

The truth was, he didn't grieve much over his parents' deaths. The only real impact was that there was no one left to give him money.

“Come on, let's go eat something nice."

He had saved up a bit recently. After paying for his essentials, he still had around ten thousand left.

"Okay."

This time, Denise didn't turn him down.

She thought he'd take her to some

average spot. But to her surprise Magnus brought her to a fancy restaurant. Even before they

stepped inside, Denise noticed the waiters' uniform and hesitated.

“Magnus, let's go somewhere else. This place must cost a fortune."

"What's the big deal? The

restaurants I used to go to were way more expensive than this Magnus didn't give her a chance to back out He brought her inside.

Even though they picked the most affordable options, the bill still came out to three or four thousand.

When they stepped out, Denise looked shocked. “Are we eating gold or something? That meal cost almost four thousand!"

"This is nothing,” Magnus said confidently. “Stick with me. You'll be eating better stuff than this in the future.” This time, Denise didn't think he was just bragging. She smiled and said, “Then I'll thank you in advance."

"You're welcome."

The two of them headed home together.

The next day, Denise went to ask her

manager for an advance on her

salary. Even with last month's.

it wouldn't be enough to

paycheck, it wouldn'

cover both her parents' hospital bills.
