Chapter 62: Lost for Home
Sitting in silence for a long brooding moment, Adam stares at Alexandra who hasn't said a word since they walked into the cozy restaurant. Observing her as she nibbles on her food, he molds his fist, trying to suppress the urge to speak but the anxiety building inside of him wouldn't let him. If anything, he wanted to know what was eating her up, that way, he could begin to set his plan in motion for the Alpha ceremony since he was already aware that she wouldn't be present.
"Alex...Alexandra, can-"
"I know" she shoots sharply, sniffing.
"You know" He smiles, exhaling deeply.
"Yes I know that I shouldn't bring you here and keep you waiting"
"No that's not it"
"Then what is it"
"I want to know what's wrong with you"
"And I want to tell you Adam, is just..."
Adams stretches his pinna, attempting to hear the next word but a deafening silence follows causing him to groan inwardly.
"Is just what?" He asks, curious.
"Is just that I don't want to burden you" she takes a sip of her orange juice
"You are not bothering me at all"
"I just thought"
He places his warm hand against her palms "Don't think Alexandra, at least not when you are with me"
"Alright" she cautiously slips her hand away, feigning to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, and drops her hand on her thigh, aware that her plans didn't involve getting closer to Adam to the point he would have to touch her. He didn't have that right, at least not anymore and that made her glad.
The thought of having a mate like Adam getting close to her whenever he pleases made her blood boil and at that moment, Alexandra felt her hand itching to grab her juice and dump it on him but that would mess things up and complicate her plans even further.
Adam would get mad and demand an explanation, he may even begin to suspect her of trying to play a fool of him and Alexandra wouldn't want that, it would mean she had failed again, and the people who had destroyed her life had won all over again.

"Do you promise not to be mad?"
"Of course, I won't be, what is it?"
"Won't you scold me?"
He smiles, flashing his perfect set of white teeth. "I would never scold you"
"Are you sure?"
"Of course, have I ever scolded you?"
"Yes"
Adams chuckles, unbelievably. "Seriously? When have I?"
"When I didn't pick up your call and your text"
"That was different" He states, uncertain.
He didn't expect her to bring up that incident ever again since they had cleared up that matter and he had ended up apologizing and stating his purpose for visitation.
"How is it? You accused me of something I didn't do"
"Yes and..." He pauses "I'm sorry Alexandra"
Looking deep into his eyes, Alexandra could see the sincerity running in his eyes, saying otherwise but deep down, Alexandra could still see right through him. She knows exactly what he was capable of and nothing about Adam was a bit sincere, in actuality, Alexandra was aware that he is a two-faced snake who would become anything just to get what he wants.
She learned that part of him the hard way and Alexandra wasn't ready to make the same mistake again.
"You doubted me and so a simple sorry cannot make up for it all"
"Yes I know but what does that have to do with this"
"It does a lot because it means you don't trust me. That day proved it"
"What are you saying, Alexandra? I trust you, I was only made that day since you didn't show up at our meeting place but we have already cleared up the air so don't ever say that again"
"Are you certain?"
Gawking deep into her eyes, firm and unblinking, Adams whispers. "I trust you and I'm stupid for saying that. I was infuriated, is not every day you get attacked by rogues"
"Don't ever doubt me again, I would be hurt"
Adams smiles, not expecting to hear the latter. "I won't"
"Those injuries, are you now healed?"
"I am but you forgot to give me something"
"What is it?"
"Your secret recipe" He states and Alexandra forces a smile, disliking the fact that he had remembered her lines, biting on her lower lips she wonders what else he remembers.
"You look beautiful when you smile Alexandra, has anyone told you that?"
Taking a sip of her juice, Alexandra lowers the glass as memories of Nathaniel pass through her mind but she pushes him aside, aware that she wouldn't dare bring him up now that she was talking with Adam.
"I don't know"
"Now I'm telling you that you look stunning when you smile. You should smile often and if you don't have anyone to smile too, smile for me" He winks at her.
Alexandra holds the urge to frown her face, disgusted by his sudden move, if anything, she was always fond of seeing Nathaniel wink at him, it made him look cute. As Nathaniel fills her thoughts, a strange feeling engulfs her and she wonders if he was around, watching her talking with Adam. Would he be mad and If she would need an explanation?
"My mate" she whispers
"What?" Adams states, not sure if he heard correctly.
"Nothing just want to talk to you"
"Fine let's talk because I want to talk to you too"
Alexandra clears her throat, trying to read the emotions running through his eyes but couldn't.
"You want to talk to me"
"Yes after you are done speaking"
"You go first, Adam"
"No Alexandra, you go first besides you are the one who made me come here today so is best you go first"
"Don't be scared and tell me what it is, I promise you, Alexandra, I will listen to you" He smiles
"I was attacked on my way home and because of that I couldn't get home"
What do you think?
