Chapter 275
In the early morning, Linda awoke Harvey from his slumber. The moment he opened his eyes, he found a little curly-haired girl perched on his chest, whining, "Daddy, I need to go to the bathroom!"
Harvey shielded his eyes with his arm, not ready to face the morning light, but he couldn't ignore his own child. Grumbling, he sat up to help Linda out of her onesie, asking, "Where's your mom?"
Linda's eyes sparkled. "Mom is making breakfast for me!"
Making breakfast? Did the Horigan family really need their matriarch to cook breakfast? Had she become that industrious?
Harvey was somewhat lost in thought, and his unfamiliarity with the task at hand meant he was a little slow. By the time he came back to reality, Linda had already started crying. The crotch of her onesie was warm and wet.
A few droplets of warmth spilled onto him. Linda looked mortified! Her adorable little face was crumpled, and she was crying her little heart out.
Eloise came upstairs from the kitchen, surprised to see Linda had wet herself, but she quickly scooped Linda up, comforting her. With her mother's gentle touch, Linda stopped crying.
Eloise fetched her some clean clothes, and Linda quickly stripped off her wet clothes, revealing her small body and oversized head.
Adorable...
Harvey sat up. "If she can undress herself, why did I have to do it? Then she wouldn't have wet herself!"
It took Eloise a while to respond, "You took care of her until she was three. She's capable of many things, but she hasn't seen you in a few days. She misses you and wants your attention..."
But Harvey had forgotten... Not only had he forgotten his love for her, but also how to pamper Linda.
Once Eloise finished speaking, she went to the bathroom to draw a bath for Linda. When she returned, she cleaned up the mess on the bed and the floor.
Harvey watched Eloise in silence. She truly embodied the image of a homemaker. Her demeanor was soft and tender. He thought to himself that if he ever desired a domestic lifestyle, he would easily accept her. But he loathed the idea of married life. He felt shackled!
Harvey cleaned himself up, got dressed, and then leisurely descended the stairs.
Downstairs, Parker gave his son a glance. The man was dressed to the nines, looking every bit the successful attorney, but the sight of his son in his prime only ruffled Parker's feathers. He much preferred the sight of his soft, adorable grandchildren.
Linda, now in a pretty little dress, sat at the dining table, diligently tucking into her breakfast. Noticing Harvey's descent, she declared, "I forgive you for earlier!" Linda tilted her head. "I'm willing to give you a chance to make it up to me!" Harvey sat next to her, sipping his coffee. "How can I make it up to you?" "Take me to preschool! Mom and Dad both have to take me."
Harvey turned to Eloise, lowering his voice. "Did you put her up to this?" Eloise was slightly annoyed. She admitted, "Yes! But you don't have to go!" Harvey chuckled. "Mrs. Horigan, with all your plotting, how can I not satisfy you?" He even had the audacity to gently stroke her soft cheek. It was so soft, so smooth! He thought to himself that the best part of this marriage was that Eloise was entirely his type.
Parker watched his son's frivolous behavior, fuming, "Speak respectfully to your wife. Don't be so handsy! Eloise is your lawfully wedded wife, not some floozy you picked up. Show some respect!"
Harvey just smiled. Without retorting, he dutifully took Linda to preschool and even kindly dropped Eloise back at the villa, but he didn't go in.
Eloise wasn't foolish. She didn't expect him to suddenly start playing house. She remembered that he used to be quite a player and was not one to shy away from the social scene.
As Eloise got out of the car, Harvey stayed in the car with the window rolled down, lighting a cigarette. Eloise gently asked, "Will you be home tonight?"
Harvey rested his elbow on the car window, leisurely puffing on his cigarette. At her question, he chuckled. "If I don't come home, are you going to tattle to my dad and force us to share a bed?"
Eloise lifted her head slightly – This version of Harvey was a real jerk! Facing him again, she took a deep breath. "Attorney Horigan, remember to come home!"
Harvey's eyes sparkled with amusement, and a smirk played on his lips. "Is Mrs. Horigan giving me a hall pass?"
Eloise wouldn't indulge him. She quietly watched him for a moment before turning to enter the villa, their once shared home, but as she walked, tears began to fall. She had experienced Harvey's deep affection, and now she felt the sting of his indifference.
For the next few days, he didn't come home. She knew he was staying at his apartment.
Linda always asked about him, and Eloise did her best to comfort her. She felt guilty towards Linda, but she knew better than to try to tether him to their child. The Harvey of the past was a wild stallion.noveldrama
Eloise was not without worry, but she had to keep her composure. She was pregnant and couldn't afford to argue or directly confront him. In a fight between a man and a woman, the woman always lost.
In the morning, after dropping Linda off, the driver gently asked, "Ms. Laurent, are
we heading for your prenatal checkup now?"
Eloise lowered her gaze. "To the office!"
The driver nodded and drove to Everest Technologies. As soon as the car stopped, Denise came over to open the door for her, surprised, "Ms. Laurent, isn't today your prenatal checkup?"
Eloise, dressed in a white suit with a noticeable bump, gently held her waist, smiling. "There's something I need to take care of!"
Denise was always attentive. She knew Harvey had returned and was happy for Eloise. In the executive office, Denise made some small talk.
Eloise sat behind her desk, slowly sipping on a glass of milk, then suddenly
asked, "Denise, how many years have you worked with Harvey?"
Denise answered with a smile. "About seven or eight years!"
Eloise looked at her, speaking softly, "Harvey has forgotten many things, and I'm worried, but I don't have anyone else I trust. Denise... I want you to go back to him!"
Denise was taken aback. She was no fool; she understood Eloise's intention. She was being asked to act as a mole.
She was in a pickle. If she was caught betraying Mr. Horigan, she would be in deep trouble. After all, her current position was a good one, a golden ticket.
Eloise opened a drawer and took out her checkbook, writing a check for 10 million dollars. In addition to that, there was a key. "A condo in Pearl District, fully furnished, plus a check for 10 million! Even if Harvey fires you, this should be enough to live on. Plus, I guarantee you can go back to Everest Technologies!" Denise was floored by the offer. The condo was probably worth around 30 million, plus the check. Ms. Laurent was really generous!
But Eloise wasn't just using money to make her point. She was also playing on Denise's emotions. "I deeply love Harvey! But I'm pregnant now, and I don't have the energy to win him back. But I can't just let him go... Denise, you understand a wife and mother's situation, right?"
Denise hesitated for a while. "Don't worry, Ms. Laurent. I... I'm on your side."
Eloise stood up, gently placing the key and check into Denise's pocket, and smiled softly. "I won't interfere in his daily life, but if anyone special comes around him, you must tell me!"
Denise couldn't help but nod. She felt that Eloise was a bit different. Had attorney Horigan provoked her yesterday?
After Denise left, Eloise dialed Harvey's number, and her voice was soft and gentle. "Harvey, today is my prenatal check-up. Do you have time to accompany me?"
Harvey was at his law firm. He was surprised to receive Eloise's call. He hadn't been home in a few days, and she hadn't called him once, but now she was initiating the contact.
Actually, he didn't mind accompanying her for the check-up. It was, after all, his child too, but he had a meeting with a client in the morning. Harvey politely declined, making Eloise feel that further insistence would be unreasonable. She was very compliant, however, and said softly, "Alright, then I'll have Mr. Gerald accompany me."
On the other end of the line, Harvey frowned.
Mr. Gerald? Gerald?
He remembered him as his former assistant, who handled his finances. Now he
was with Eloise? And to the point where he could accompany her to prenatal check-ups?
What do you think?
