Chapter 213 Setting Him Up
I wore an indifferent expression and smiled at the furious Jeremiah. "You don't have any evidence, so how can you accuse me?"noveldrama
Jeremiah clenched his fists. After a long pause, he snorted coldly. "Even if you use dirty tricks, I'll still win the bid."
His face was full of confidence, but there was a hint of worry in his eyes. After making his threat, he gave me a deep look and stormed off.
I saw Elsa about to follow him and called out, "Stop."
Elsa stiffened, turning to face me with a guarded expression. The next moment, she returned to her innocent act and cautiously asked, "Jane, is there something you need?"
It seemed she thought I was going to scold her, so she immediately began explaining herself, "Jane, I didn't mean it earlier. Jeremiah just wanted to see you. He still has feelings for you, and I couldn't bear to see him like that, so I..."
I was already tired of hearing these pathetic excuses. I raised my hand to silence her. "Enough. I don't want to hear any of that."
I met her gaze and said with a smile, "The Cornell family is barely holding on, and you're still planning to stay with Jeremiah? To be honest, I've already got some inside information. This isn't a public bidding, it's a competitive one. The bid is for real estate, and I've already prepared the proposal. He doesn't stand a chance." Hearing my words, Elsa's face showed a flash of shock, and her eyes darted around. I sneered inwardly, knowing she was falling for it.
She quickly recovered her composure and put on her best pitiful look. "Jane, Jeremiah and I—"
"I'm not interested in hearing your excuses. Get out, "I interrupted, halting her from uttering more of her clumsy lies.
She blinked, her eyes glistening with tears. When she saw my cold expression, she stood frozen for a long time. After a while, she sobbed a few times before abruptly turning and leaving, not even bothering to close the door.
I watched her retreating figure with satisfaction, knowing exactly what was going
on.
With the way she acted, I'd be surprised if she wasn't going to report to Jeremiah about her new findings.
Just as I was thinking about it, a head popped through the door. The person looked a bit tentative.
I took a closer look and saw Heather's gossiping face.
Heather was no longer a member of the business department's Team 2. She had since become one of my assistants.
Since I started working in the business department, I noticed that because of some malicious leaders, many people's abilities had been suppressed. Heather was one of them.
Though she seemed a bit carefree,
her work abilities were top-notch. So,
after regaining my position, I
promoted her to my assistant so
that she could shine and make the
most of her talents.
Feeling the awkward atmosphere in the office from earlier, Heather didn't enter right away.
She stood at the door and softly reported, "Ms. Brown, a person named Ned Valdez has come with your business card to see you."
I raised an eyebrow, surprised he arrived so early. "Let him in."
Heather stepped out. After a moment, she entered with Ned.
As a rookie director, Ned seemed a little nervous and pale as he stepped in. I gestured for him to sit down and called out to Heather, asking her to stay and listen in.
Although a little puzzled, Heather obediently sat down, even opening her laptop to take meeting notes.
Ned pulled a few scripts from the
large bag he carried and placed
them in front of me. "Ms. Brown, these are the scripts I've shortlisted. These three are the ones I think have the best filming prospects.
He sighed, looking as though he was lamenting his untapped potential "But I've been struggling with finding a producer and investor. Take a look and see if any of these interest you."
What do you think?
