Chapter 65 What Do You Mean?
The phone on the floor was still the WeChat interface, glowing blindingly in the light.
Not waiting for her to come back to her sense, Alan walked to her and slowly bent down.
Lexie’s face was pale and she was nervous.
Just a moment after picking up the phone, the screen suddenly went dark, flickered, and returned to the lock screen.
“See if it’s broken.”
Looking at the phone Alan handed over, Lexie took it, [It is okay.].
“Still haven’t eaten?”
Alan didn’t get suspicious, his eyes falling on the table.
The meal from Marry was still steaming.
Lexie regained her composure and put her phone back on the table as if nothing had happened.
[Why are you back so early today?]
Alan frowned, “What? You expect me to come back late?”
Lexie was stunned, [No.]
Alan glanced at her and dropped a document on the table, “Take a look.”
The black folder landed on the table with a soft sound.
Lexie flipped it open, and the moment she saw the contents, her pupils contracted violently, and her shoulders trembled slightly.
On the first page was a piece of talisman paper molded in a transparent bag, exactly the same as the one she had seen in the dark room of Peter’s study, with some details written next to it.
“The feng shui master said that this is for suppressing unjust spirits, there’s a matching formation, and people would not do this formation if he didn’t kill someone and was related to the death.”
Lexie jerked her head up and looked at Alan, incredulous.
“No need to look at me like that, I don’t believe in this, but I just thought it was strange that Peter was offering something like this in a dark room. Thinking maybe I could find out something, so I had someone check it out.”
“Now it seems that your mother’s death had a great deal to do with him.”
Lexie’s fingers holding the folder gradually tightened, and even her knuckles gradually turned white.
She couldn’t read the talisman paper, but when she saw her mother’s tablet chained by four creepy red chains, she knew it had to be no good.
[Why are you checking this out for me?]
“Since it’s a trade, you help me find the prescription, and I can help you look into your mother’s death.”
Lexie’s face changed.
From the inside, she didn’t want Alan to help her with this favor.
This man was unpredictable, even if he was sincere in helping her to investigate the cause of her mother’s death, she was afraid that in the future, she would be under his control.
Making a deal with the devil couldn’t possibly end well for her, but she had to obey on the surface.
[Thank you.]
Seeing that Alan still didn’t leave, Lexie looked at him with an apprehensive expression.
[Anything else?]
Alan stared intently at the woman in front of him, the image of last night lingering in his mind.
It’d been like this all day today.
At first, he blamed it on the alcohol and the effect of the damn drug Edith had given him, but at the moment, when he saw this woman, his body started to react again.
“Last night Edith sent me back and she drugged me, do you know about this?”
At those words, Lexie was stunned.
She shook her head, [I don’t know.]
“Is that so? Isn’t it that Peter failed in one scheme and came up with another one? Since he couldn’t rely on you to seduce me, so he planned to use Edith to seduce me?”
[Edith? That’s impossible. If he wanted to do that, he wouldn’t have let me marry you for Edith.]
At the mention of a replacement marriage, a hint of coldness leaked out of the man’s narrow eyes.
[Were you really drugged last night?]
Alan looked at her, “You seem disappointed?”
Lexie first froze for a moment, and then her face turned blushed.
[That’s not what I meant.]
“And what do you mean?”
Lexie subconsciously stepped back, and the moment her back clung to the back of the chair, her nightgown suddenly slipped off her shoulders, revealing her shoulders, and a thin belt dangled from her neck as if it could break at any moment.
Alan’s gaze snapped sharp.
Lexie pulled up her clothes in alarm.
“What are you doing? I’ve seen everything that needs to be seen.”
Hearing that, Lexie was so ashamed, but her mind couldn’t help but remember those images from last night, and her face burned even more.
Looking at the woman in front of him biting her lip, her face rosy, Alan frowned more tightly.
After a while, with a startled cry from Lexie, she was grabbed onto the bed by Alan.
The moment the nightgown was ripped off, Lexie’s mind went blank.
The night was getting late.
The lights were dim in the detached building of the Howard family’s summer resort on the outskirts of the city.
Tina, her clothes disheveled, leaned against the couch with her hair draped, staring at a foreign romance movie playing on the giant screen across from her, bottles of wine scattered around her.
A beer bottle clanging sound came from the doorway.
“Why drink so much? What if others see that?”
Lennox stood in the living room, as soon as he entered and saw Tina with this wretch look, he was furious, “Don’t you forget, you’re getting engaged at the end of this month!”
Tina didn’t even look at him and sneered, “I won’t forget, don’t worry, I’ll definitely do as you wish to marry into the Walsh family, and help you advance your business.”
“What are you talking about? Is it not for your own good to arrange this marriage for you? Bob is young and talented, in the whole J City, who wouldn’t envy your marriage?”
Seeing that Tina wasn’t paying attention, Lennox didn’t bother to talk to her about this anymore, only his face grew serious, “I’ve come to say something to you.”
“Go ahead, I am listening.”
“Don’t meddle in anything that has anything to do with Alan.”
Tina snorted with a look of disdain.
“Did you hear me?” Lennox raised his voice, “He has removed the men I arranged for the Binjiang New Town project, he is young, but his skills are unfathomable, don’t mess with him, do you hear me?”
“Yeah.”Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
Tina responded perfunctorily and smoothly covered herself with the blanket, “I’m going to sleep. Do you want to continue lecturing me? You can go on!”
“You …”
Seeing that, Lennox didn’t bother to talk to her again, his eyes glared in anger, if not for the engagement at the end of the month, he would have made her kneel for a few days.
“During half month, don’t make a scene! Or else that kid won’t have a life or come back!”
The echo of slamming doors was left in the room.
After an unknown amount of time, Tina suddenly sat up from the couch, grabbed the whiskey next to her and gulped it down, then viciously slammed the bottle towards the giant screen.
“All fucking no good! Why shouldn’t I be allowed to mess with him?”
“I’m going to mess with him! Get me killed if he can!”
A smashing sound followed by the ringing of the phone on the table finally fell on her ears.
Seeing the caller ID, Tina’s eyes suddenly sank.
