Chapter 31
Daisy stared at the floor, avoiding Lance’s gaze. She didn’t want to indulge in his kindness, worried about being hurt again.
“Come on, start eating. We don’t have much time-” She started to speak, but her phone buzzed again. She pulled it out and saw a call from Elden. She answered with a hint of annoyance, “Mr. Wilder, what’s the matter?”
“Get to the hospital and bring some liquid food. Laura got hit by a car and is at Central Hospital,” Elden’s tone was demanding, which irritated Daisy. ‘What does Laura’s accident have to do with me?’ she thought.
Daisy rolled her eyes, not thinking twice. “No, I can’t go right now.”
“She’s your sister! Do you even have a heart?” Elden shouted, surprising even Lance.
Daisy snorted, leaning back in her chair. “Mr. Wilder, calm down. Since when did I have a sister? Do I even have parents?”
“Daisy, I don’t care what you’re doing or how busy you are. You need to be at the hospital tonight, or else-” Elden’s voice trailed off as she hung up.
A smirk crossed Daisy’s face, but it didn’t hide her frustration.
Lance didn’t expect her family to be so messy. ‘Isn’t she the biological daughter of Mr. Wilder? Why does it seem like Laura is more favored?’ He thought, deciding to keep this question in mind for later investigation. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
Noticing the impatience on Daisy’s face, Lance figured she wasn’t interested in finishing their meal. “Let’s go. Where do you want to head? I’ll give you a ride,” he said, tidying up and looking down at her.
“To the hospital. I’m sorry about today. I’ll find a way to make it up to you later,” Daisy replied, walking over to talk to the barbecue shop owner.
In no time, she took care of everything. Soon, Lance dropped her off at the hospital. When they reached the ground floor, he asked, “Do you want me to go up with you?”
“No. It’s getting late, and you should get home to rest. Thanks for everything today,” Daisy said, heading towards the entrance. She stopped a nurse to ask for Laura’s ward before making her way upstairs.
Daisy stood at the doorway, feeling a bit shocked by how cozy Elden, Fiona, and Laura looked together. She pushed open the door and stepped in. “What’s up? You called me over like it was an emergency just to show off this happy family scene?”
“Hey, Daisy, I-” Laura coughed, trying to look pitiful.
Daisy raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. “Mr. Wilder said you were in an accident, but you look fine. Why did you call me? Can’t your parents take care of you?”
wrong with you? How can you say that to irritate her Fiona couldn’t take it anymore. Her face turned red with anger. “What’s when she’s still recovering? What if…?” Her voice cracked. Just thinking about Laura’s close call made her nervous. When she got the call from the hospital, her first thought had been, ‘Why isn’t it Daisy in the hospital instead?
Daisy scanned the people in the room, knowing what each of them was thinking. “If I’m not welcome here, why did you ask me to come? You can’t expect me to play the caring sister role.”
“Daisy, how can you be so cold? Don’t you care about Laura at all?” Elden snapped, picking up a cup and throwing it down hard. It shattered on the floor, just like what Daisy’s heart felt-she had given up on this family a long time ago.
Looking at them with icy glare, she replied, “What about you? Does any of you care about me? I rushed over at this hour. What if something happened to me on the way? If you don’t care about me, why should I care about you?” With that, Daisy opened the door and strolled out, leaving them behind.
Fiona watched her walk away, a mix of annoyance and regret swirling in her chest. She thought, ‘Why did we even bring Daisy back? All she does is cause trouble.’
Elden had to work in the morning, and even though it was getting late, someone had to stay with Laura. With Daisy gone, Fiona knew she was the last one left to keep watch.
“Elden, go home and get some sleep. I’ll
