Chapter 1736
Chapter 1736:
“I’ll bet it was actually Patrick who stood in line, wasn’t it?”
Rhys crouched down in front of her, his eyes wide and voice coaxing.
“Lee, don’t you love me anymore…”noveldrama
Harlee was taken aback. Rhys was feigning distress again. Perhaps she had been a bit too stern with him lately.
Just as she was about to comfort Rhys, she noticed him massaging his temples, a genuine look of fatigue on his face. Concerned, she asked, “Are you feeling alright?”
“I didn’t sleep well last night without you, and now I’ve got a terrible headache.”
Rhys aimed to garner Harlee’s sympathy, but his complaint was rooted in truth. He really had spent a restless night and was suffering from a headache. Harlee’s expression softened, and she put down the pastry she had just bitten into.
“Lie down on the bed. I’ll massage your head.”
“No need. I just need to lie next to you for a bit.”
To Rhys, Harlee was his panacea. Simply being next to her allowed him to fall asleep effortlessly.
Harlee realized Rhys might be exaggerating his plight to spend more time with her. Despite seeing through his ruse, she didn’t call him out, considering the genuine tiredness in his eyes. After all, her reluctance to indulge him too much was because she didn’t want him to become overconfident or too clingy—not because she loved him any less.
“OK. You can lie down on the bed.”
No sooner had she spoken than Rhys sprang up, swiftly pulling Harlee into his arms and guiding them both to the bed.
Although it was midday and Harlee wasn’t inclined to sleep, she settled to play games on her phone while Rhys snuggled against her. Moments after lying down, he drifted off to sleep, his form relaxed and graceful.
Harlee glanced at Rhys, her expression tinged with concern. He appeared genuinely exhausted, burdened perhaps by the weight of recent busyness. A sudden thought of Errol and Nola crossed Harlee’s mind. She studied Rhys deeply and murmured, “You’re not secretly up to something, are you?” Rhys, deep in sleep, offered no response.
When Rhys awoke around three in the afternoon, Harlee was settled on the sofa, indulging in afternoon tea and absorbed in her games.
“Why didn’t you wake me up?” Rhys asked, his voice filled with affection.
“You were sleeping so soundly,” Harlee responded, then handed him photos of Hazel and Zora.
“Help me investigate the Wallace and Welch families. I want to stir up some trouble for them.”
“Did they offend you?” Rhys asked, a hint of anger in his tone.
“No. But they might foolishly try soon.”
“I could make them disappear within an hour,” Rhys stated matter-of-factly, his words chillingly casual.
Harlee, however, wasn’t ready to dispatch these adversaries so swiftly. She shook her head.
“No need. I want to handle them in front of Virginia. It’d be satisfying to have them grovel at her feet.”
At the mention of Virginia, Rhys immediately understood the situation. He nodded and promised, “I’ll have the information on your phone in ten minutes.”
He then sat beside Harlee, handed her a cup of tea, and inquired, “Planning to help Virginia’s family?”
“Not exactly. I’m just enhancing their quality of life. As for the Wallace and Welch families…”
Harlee paused to sip her tea before continuing indifferently, “I’m not rushing to deal with the Happer family, so I’m seeking some entertainment elsewhere.”
