EPISODE THIRTY-TWO
THEME: When we were young
BLACK MOON PACK
(Avery’s Point Of View)
When we reopened our eyes, my wolf sniffed the air only to smell a familiar scent. I pushed her up quickly as her keen eyesight scanned the whole area but we spotted no one.
Perhaps are we imagining our mate in our head again? No, I don’t want to think about him and I am sure my wolf wants the same too. She howled painfully into the night clouds. A howl that signifies that she has been terribly hurt by her other part that was meant to complete us. We should be going so we can hit the highway before sunrise hopefully someone would stop and help us into town.Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
My wolf heard a bustling sound nearby as we strolled down the silent path. My wolf didn’t care to stop as she continued to whine. I tried to cheer her up to run but she seemed reluctant.
“Do you need rest again?” I asked.
“No, he is here.” My wolf howl into the skies pulling to a sudden stop.
The familiar scent became strong in the air. We looked up and I saw him-our mate. His big frame overshadowed my wolf as he stared into our eyes. How did he find us? The theta must have informed him.
“Avery.” He called my name in my wolf’s head but she blocked out whatever connection he was trying to make with her. Well I am glad my wolf agreed with me this time.
“Give me a chance to explain things to you.” His voice came again. Kayden could communicate directly in our wolf forms because he is an alpha. And as an alpha, he has the ability to send a telepathic message to all the wolves in his pack. As the native of black moon pack they are connected to him. And it was easy to do the same with me because I am his mate.
My wolf stomped her four paws on the ground, telling him to get out of the way. But Kayden wasn’t moved by her threat.
“I know I have failed you again but just this time… one more time to explain things to you. Please.” His voice pleaded in my head and we tried to not let it bring down our resolve. This needs to end.
My wolf howl again threatening him even more as she took few steps backward ready to fight our mate for blocking the pathway.
“I am not letting you go!” Kayden barked in our head and it infuriated my wolf even more.
Her head snapped sideways and spotted a big tree nearby. And before I knew it, she opted for the next escape route. She climbed the tree. Kayden’s wolf called at her but she didn’t stop. She howl in return telling him to back off but he was right under her following closely as she moved from trees to trees. Climbing trees was one of the few escaping tricks my father had taught me when I was young. He recounted that the tree climbing had once helped him escape from a set of rogue. Not that he was scared of the rogues but he had injured his wolf while hunting so it won’t be easy beating them down.
My wolf landed on her fours from a tree and continued running. Kayden’s wolf chased us for some time.
“Stop! It is a cliff!” Kayden screamed.
My wolf was quick to stop herself at the edge. When she swirled around, Kayden was already in his human form.
“Avery-” my wolf howl at him again.”Please don’t jump off the cliff.” He pleaded.
Well I won’t hesitate to jump off if it would help me be away from you.
“Let’s talk.. then you can leave afterwards.” Kayden said.
My wolf whined asking for a permission to shape shift into my human form. And I agreed-let us hear what he has to say even though it’s not going to change my decision.
“What do you have to say?” I asked after shifting back to my human form.
I waited for him to say something but he didn’t make an attempt to speak up. His eyes was ogling my naked body.
“Seems like you are not ready to-”
“Corinna-” he started off. “Corinna experienced her first heat at the age of seventeen when we both went for an hunting game. We were both alone in the woods, I had no idea of how to help her or get back to the pack on time because we were so far away. It was so painful to watch her try to control her urge and her strong arousal distracted my wolf. Believe me… I didn’t know what to do when she begged me to relief her right there. We were so naive back then but we had our first sex and promised to keep it a secret from our parents. It was way too early for her to experience her first heat but when we got back to the pack she was given the heat medication because she haven’t found her mate.” He explained.
“Alright.. you helped your best friend.. you relieved her of heat. Fine, it was meant to be a one time thing right?” I asked as tear threatened to spill down from my cheeks any time soon.
“Yes it was meant to be just one. But we were single wolves so we did it again on my 18th birthday and decided to make it official. My mom caught us making out in my room once day and that’s how she found out the truth. We couldn’t deny it so I told her everything. I-”
“You fell in love with her right?” I asked.
“Yes I did. We both fell in love with each other and the relationship continued until I found you. Trust me, I tried to break free but the feeling for Corinna was so strong and it made it hard for me to-”
I interrupted him. “Did you ever love me, Kayden?” I asked the question that has been on my mind.
From the way he talked about Corinna, I could see the admiration in his eyes. I waited for his response.
“Avery-”
“I want the truth! Did you ever love, Kayden?!” I demanded.
“I am sorry, Avery.” He replied.
I let out a loud sob. He never loved me.
“When I found you, I wasn’t expecting it but I had to claim you as my mate. It’s the only reason stopping me from taking over the pack. My dad wanted me to find my mate before he hands over the pack to me.” He confessed.
“So you didn’t come find me because.. you wanted a mate.. but -” I stopped. “But.. but.. you claimed me because you want the pack.” I rephrased his words like it seemed in my head.
“That’s it. But it changed, believe me.. Avery.. I grew to love you. I became fond of you and fell deeply in love with you.” Kayden rushed out his words.
“Liar! You never did love me! You didn’t even respect the fact that I was around you! You slept with another wolf and dare to accuse me of cheating! Freddie died too because of your jealousy! Kayden, what have I done to deserve this treatment from you? I never asked for too much.. just few years to get a degree.. and we would be together! But you kept seeing Corinna under my nose!” I cried.
“I stopped. I mean we stopped seeing each other.” He said.
“So how did she end up getting pregnant?!” I snarled at him.
An angry look grazed my expression. “It just happened.. I can’t explain it. But I wasn’t under control at that time. I couldn’t resist her.” He admitted.
I nodded my head slowly. “Alright. Corinna is going to have your child. I’ll leave.. so you can be with her.” Those words broke my heart but I wiped my tears.
“Avery, please don’t reject me.” Kayden’s voice pleaded with me.
“What do you expect from me? That I forgive you? No, I will never forgive you.” I grimaced in anger.
Kayden started towards me. “Don’t come close to me!” I seethe my teeth but he didn’t listen.
I picked up a rock next to my leg. “Don’t come closer! I hate you! I hate you!” I screamed and Kayden stopped walking.
“You are still my mate.. so I can’t let you leave.” Kayden said.
“I’ll only be your mate if I agree to be with you.” I replied.
“You made a promise to never reject me no matter what. Listen Avery, there is a way out. Corinna can have my child but you will remain my mate and I promise to never see her again.” He stated.
“To hell with promises! I reject you, Kayden Scott as my mate!” I blurted out.
His eyes widened in shock. I am sure he didn’t expect the rejection. I expected my wolf to be disconnected with his wolf but it was slow.
“How could you do this to me?!” Kayden snarled as he started towards me again.
But out of annoyance I moved backward and haul the rock at him only to have myself falling off the cliff.
“No, Avery!” I heard him groan in pains as I couldn’t stop myself from falling.
This is the end right? Nothing is going to save my life. My body would get shattered by solid rocks and I would never be seen or heard by anyone.
I closed my eyes losing myself to the fall. I rejected my mate. The pain in my heart was excruciating and all I remembered was the howl of a wolf into the dark clouds. My wolf and I would be gone forever.
