Your Guise Is Slipping, Miss Pearl

Chapter 1414

Chapter 1414

Agnes was always kind and polite to Esther, treating her like her own daughter. However, Esther had never seen Agnes beg anyone so humbly before.

Seeing Agnes like this, Esther's heart softened. She responded gently, "Okay, Aunt Agnes. I'll think about it. Please don't worry so much."

"Okay," Agnes replied simply.

After dinner, Esther prepared to go home as she usually did. Given the late hour, Agnes suggested James drive her home.

James agreed without hesitation.

During the ride, Esther stared out the window at the night, keeping to herself. James, sensing the tension, chose to remain silent as well.

Halfway through, Esther suddenly turned to James, her expression distressed. "James, why didn't you correct Aunt Agnes today? You know we're not a couple, yet you let her believe otherwise. It will only hurt her more when she finds out the truth."noveldrama

James didn't rush to answer. Instead, he pulled the car over to the side of the road and turned to face her.

Esther was stunned. "Why did you stop the car?"

"It's because I don't want us to have an accident if we get too emotional."

Esther fell silent, taken aback by his caution.

"Esther, I know I made mistakes before, and that's why you've been avoiding me," James continued. "I've respected your feelings. I've never pressured you. Instead, I've been there for you, supporting you in what you wanted, even when you tried to push me away. I never gave up even if you flirted with others on purpose."

He paused, his voice firm yet filled with emotion. "So, do you still fail to understand my feelings?"

Esther felt overwhelmed with emotions, primarily panic and helplessness.

James seemed reasonable in his approach. For years, Esther had tried to distance herself from him, hoping he would give up.

However, James persisted, always staying close to her regardless of her attempts to push him away. No matter what she did, she couldn't seem to shake him off completely.

Over time, Esther had somewhat adapted to their ongoing dynamic.

In a stern, serious tone, James gripped her shoulders. "Let me ask you this. If I really gave up and left you alone, would you be happy?"

Esther hesitated, her voice barely a whisper. "I..."

"Take your time. You don't have to rush your answer," he urged gently.

Esther looked down, pondering deeply for a moment. When she looked up again, tears filled her eyes. "Yes, I don't want you to disturb me anymore."

James turned pale, his expression shocked. "Did that incident really affect you that much?"

He knew he had mishandled that situation. He shouldn't have refused the medicine after hearing about Pearl's death.
