Chapter 1969
Chapter 1969 Working At The Club
Denise took him to the place where she worked.
When they arrived, Magnus stared in surprise at the lavish, brightly lit club. The corner of his mouth twitched slightly.
"You work here?" he asked, raising a brow.
No wonder she always left early and came back late.
Denise noticed the look of disdain on his face, but she didn't react. "Yeah," she said simply. "Working here is the fastest way to make money."
"You really don't respect yourself, do you?" Magnus said bluntly.
He had frequented places like this before. To him, women who worked in clubs were all the same; cheap and shameless.
A flicker of hurt passed through Denise's eyes, but she masked it quickly. "Maybe. But I don't have a choice."
How else am I supposed to pay for my parents' treatment? Without money, they're as good as dead.
Only then did Magnus remember that her parents were seriously ill. Guilt rose sharply in his chest. "I'm... sorry. I forgot about that."
For the first time, he felt genuine remorse.
In the world he used to live in, he would've never crossed paths with someone like Denise. And only now was he beginning to understand that some people's lives were nothing but a relentless fight to survive.
"It's fine. Come on, let's go inside," Denise said calmly.
Magnus nodded and followed.
He watched her walk ahead, still struggling to believe what he was seeing.
When they first met, he'd been struck by how young she looked. She was far from the kind of woman he imagined working at a club. Everything about her demeanor felt different.
Denise led him straight to the manager.
"I brought a friend. You said you were looking for good-looking guys, right? What do you think of him?" She stepped aside, giving the manager a full view of Magnus.
Though his face was still marred by faint bruises, it did little to diminish his natural good looks.
The manager's eyes lit up. "Not bad at all. He's got a solid face. Definitely marketable."
These days, it wasn't just women being judged by appearance-men were, too.
"Great, you can start today. I'll have someone show you the ropes," the manager said.
Magnus was pleased by the compliment. He had always known his looks were one of his strongest assets, and in this line of work, that gave him a head start.
Before Magnus was led away to change, Denise gave him a warning. "Some of the guests here can be... difficult. Just keep your head down and don't provoke anyone, got it?"
Magnus waved her off with a smirk. "Yeah, yeah, I know how this works. Honestly, I probably know more about this kind of place than you do."
Denise narrowed her eyes. This guy seriously needs to be humbled. She didn't bother arguing. Instead, she turned and went to work.
By the time her shift ended around
five in the morning, Denise was waiting near the exit when she finally saw Magnus staggering out, face bruised and swollen, looking like he'd gone through a meat grinder. noveldrama
The manager wasn't pleased either. He glanced at Magnus, then turned to Denise with a frown. "You'd better teach your friend a lesson. He's here to serve the guests, not piss them off."
Magnus was on the verge of tears. The moment the manager walked away, he broke down completely.
"Denise, I can't take this anymore," he choked out, his voice trembling. "They hit me, humiliated me, treated me like dirt. You have no idea what I went through tonight..."
Denise looked at him, her expression unreadable. After a pause, she let out a sigh. "Crying to me won't change anything," she said coolly. "If
you can't handle this, you might as well go back to being a beggar."
In this world, everyone had to rely on themselves. No one else was going to carry
you.
Still sobbing, Magnus followed her home, sniffling the entire way.

Back at the apartment, Denise silently took out the first-aid kit and began treating his injuries. As she gently dabbed antiseptic on his bruises, she finally got the full St Apparently, while serving drinks, the guests had coaxed Magnus into joining them. One thing led to another, and he'd gotten himself drunk, completely forgetting he was just staff. Worse still, he started ordering more wine on their tab and
even had the nerve to invite the
ladies to drink with him.
Unsurprisingly, the female guest, offended by his arrogance, called someone to
teach him a lesson.
