Chapter 1967
Chapter 1967 I Am Not Interested In You
Even though the bathroom door could lock, she still felt uneasy. It wasn't easy getting used to having a strange man suddenly living under the same roof.
"Don't worry, I'm not interested in you," Magnus said flatly.
Though he hadn't spent much time with Denise, he'd already figured out she wasn't the gentle, nurturing type he usually went for. She was more like a tigress, fierce, sharp-tongued, and utterly unyielding. Definitely not his type.
Denise didn't take offense at his remark. She simply went to take her bath.
Afterward, it was time to sleep, but the problem remained: there was only one bed.
"How did you sleep last night?" Magnus asked.
"On the floor," Denise replied.
The truth was, she hadn't slept at all. She'd spent the entire night awake, worried Magnus might die from the fall and quietly watching over him.
"Isn't that unfair? Making you sleep on the floor?" Magnus asked, sounding more considerate than before.
Denise looked him dead in the eye. "Then you sleep on the floor. I'm taking the bed tonight."
"I've never slept on the floor in my life," Magnus grumbled.
"Then feel free to leave."
"Fine. I'll sleep on the floor."
Denise told him to make his own bed on the floor.
Magnus fumbled through the task awkwardly, but managed to get it done.noveldrama
For the first time, he realized he could do these things. In the past, he'd never lifted a finger-no cooking, no laundry, not even pouring his own water. Someone had always done it for him.
By the time everything was settled, both of them were utterly drained.
Denise drifted off to sleep quickly, but Magnus, having napped for most of the day, wasn't tired yet.
"Denise, do you have any money?" he asked out of the blue.
Half-asleep, she mumbled, "Why are you asking me that?"
"If you've got any spare cash, maybe you could lend me some. I swear I'll pay you back once I start working," Magnus said.
"I'm broke," Denise replied flatly. Then she turned over and added, "Let me sleep. I've got work tomorrow."
Magnus fell silent.
Figures. How could someone living in a place like this have money?
Magnus, too, closed his eyes and eventually drifted off to sleep.
The hard days he'd endured felt like years. After the beating he'd taken, every inch of his body throbbed with pain.
Meanwhile, Cecilia received an update from Sven. "A girl's taken him in," Sven reported.
"Taken in?" Cecilia raised an eyebrow, surprised.
"Yeah. He's living in a loft with a woman named Denise," Sven paused, then added, "Should we find a way to force him back out? Make him keep suffering a little longer?”
Cecilia didn't answer immediately. After a moment, she asked, "Have you looked into Denise's background?"
"I did," Sven replied. “She comes from an ordinary family. Both her parents were diagnosed with cancer, so she's been working multiple jobs to cover the medical bills. Life's been rough on her."
"If that's the case, then it can't be easy for Magnus to stay with her Cecilia said thoughtfully. "Keep a close eye on the situation. I don't want him taking advantage of a
kind-hearted girl."
Cecilia knew her brother too well. She wasn't worried about Magnus getting hurt. She was worried he wouldn't know how to appreciate someone who helped him.
"All right." After Sven agreed, he turned and left the office.
Cecilia sat in silence for a moment, her thoughts lingering on Magnus. She couldn't help but wonder if hardship could really change him.
People often said that genes determined a person's nature, but Magnus wasn't just Paula's son. He was also Regas'.
Regas had always been a good man-kind, honest, and principled. But he lacked
business sense, and his soft heart made him easy to take advantage of.
If only Magnus could change. If he could become more like Dad...
That way, at least, their father could finally rest in peace.
