Under the Heiress' Facade

Chapter 765

Chapter 765

Hera silently walked past Bernard and gave Thiago a friendly hug. A satisfied smile spread across Thiago's face.noveldrama

At the same time, his cab pulled up. After waving goodbye, Thiago got in and left.

Everyone was gone except for Nicholas, who cleared his throat uncomfortably and said, "I came over tonight to bid you goodbye as well."

"Where are you going?" Hera asked.

"My dad thinks I'm fooling around all day and have nothing to do. So, he enrolled me in a university overseas to further my studies," Nicholas said.

Hera cast a strange look at him. "It's rare that you listen to what your dad has to say."

Actually, Nicholas wasn't being obedient. Geoffrey did have a point.

Bernard was such a brilliant man who could do anything. Someone like Nicholas, who wasn't capable of anything, could never steal Hera away from Bernard.

"I also find that Jedburgh is getting boring, so it'd be nice to see the world," Nicholas remarked stubbornly. "Let me know if you think you'd miss me. I might even change my mind and stay."

While speaking, he secretly scrutinized Hera's expression, hoping that he could notice a hint of reluctance.

Nicholas wouldn't hesitate to stay if he knew Hera would miss him, even just a little.

"Go ahead and study hard. Four years later, you'll return as a better man." Hera patted his shoulder, leaving him speechless.

After seeing Nicholas off, Bernard and Hera returned to the western wing. He entered the study to fill up Tiramisu's food bowl and shovel its manure while she went for a shower.

Since Hera was feeling quite exhilarated, she didn't think she was able to fall asleep tonight. Thus, she took some fruits and snacks from the fridge and headed to the living room.

Meanwhile, Bernard went to the wine rack and took out a bottle of champagne and a wine glass. He also took out two candles and lit them up.

It was rare for them to have some time to themselves and enjoy a drink in a warm, romantic atmosphere.

"Now that everyone's suddenly gone, I'm not used to the silence," Hera suddenly said. Her remark made Bernard reply bitterly, "They shouldn't have been here anyway." It was better for everyone to leave so that no one could disturb him and Hera.

Having picked up on his bitter tone, Hera did not bring up the matter again, fearing that he would keep going on about it.

"Bernard, what do you think they'll be sentenced with?" Hera changed the topic.

Bernard did not even think about it. "Life imprisonment."

Life imprisonment would deprive the culprits of their freedom, leaving them to spend their remaining days in prison. That was far more torturous than granting them death instantly.

Hera noticed that Bernard had handed her some milk while he held a wine glass himself. Hence, she got up to get another wine glass for herself from the wine rack.

Bernard watched her fill her wine glass with champagne. "Have you forgotten how much alcohol you can handle?"

"I'm feeling happy today, and it's fine for me to have a glass at home." Hera raised her wine glass. "Besides, aren't you here?"

Bernard smiled before clicking their wine glasses together. "Cheers."

After doing so, Bernard watched as Hera threw her head back and finished the champagne in one gulp before filling up her glass again.

"Sweetie, that's now how you drink champagne." He hurriedly reached out to stop her from chugging down another glass. "Drinking so fast will get you drunk easily."

Hera had a terrible alcohol tolerance, yet she was downing her champagne in one go. He had no idea who she learned that from.

"It's okay! I'm feeling happy!" Hera pushed his hands aside.

She finally sought justice for Daphne and cleared Lucius' name. Although he might not be very happy with her, she didn't care about that.

The only way for Hera to let go of her obsessions was to do whatever she liked. She no longer had to keep thinking about her revenge.

She suddenly felt very relaxed and was in a good mood, so she drank two more glasses. After having another glass, Hera quickly realized that there seemed to be two Bernards.
