Chapter 799
Dylan went on, "Later, we got together. We were going to get married. But then Hendrix used underhanded tactics to target my company, and you chose to go back to him because you didn't want to drag me down.
"And I don't think he even loves you. The only reason he's so obsessed with keeping you is because he can't stand losing. It's just possessiveness. He—"
Dylan never got to finish. Someone slammed into him from behind, shoving him hard enough that he staggered back several steps before crashing to the floor.
But he barely registered the pain. Slowly, he lifted his head.
Hendrix stood shielding Noelle, his expression thunderous.
Instead of responding with anger, Dylan laughed softly. "There's no need to get so worked up, Mr. Freeman. I was just so happy to see Noelle that I might have let something slip out of excitement. Or are you feeling guilty about something?"
Hendrix didn't dignify that with a response. He didn't even spare Dylan another glance. Instead, he just grabbed Noelle's hand and pulled her away.
His strides were long, and his pace was fast. Noelle had to half-jog to keep up. But soon, she turned back to look at Dylan.
He was already back on his feet, watching her. That look seemed to tell her to think carefully about what he had just said.
Noelle didn't respond, but her frown deepened.
Dylan simply smiled at her.noveldrama
Noelle seemed like she was about to give him a response, but before she could, Hendrix quickly noticed what she was about to do. Without hesitation, he pulled her firmly into his arms, cutting off her line of sight from Dylan completely.
Before Noelle could process what had happened, Hendrix asked her, "What did he say to you?"
She turned her head, locking eyes with him for a moment before asking in return, "Do I know him?"
Hendrix frowned.
"I do, don't I?" Noelle came to the answer herself. "Who is he?"
"Someone unimportant."
The dismissal made Noelle's brows furrow.
"So, what exactly did he say to you?"
anspressed, clearly valuing the
answer. He kept asking Noelle repeatedly.
Noelle looked at him. "Is it that important?"
"Of course!"
"He said he almost married me before. Is that true?"
Vel
Noelle hadn't planned to ask Hendrix. Of course, it wasn't because she believed what Dylan had said. It was because she recalled what Hendrix had told her before—once she fully recovered, her memories would return on their own.
And she knew better than to trust secondhand accounts. After all, perspectives always skewed the truth The only way to know the whole truth was to remember it herself.
But since Hendrix was pressing her so insistently, Noelle didn't hide anything and told him bluntly.
After she finished speaking, Hendrix went silent for a few seconds.
That pause alone was enough for Noelle to figure out the answer. "Oh, so it's true."
"No!" Hendrix quickly grabbed her shoulders. "Noelle, listen to me."
"I'm listening." Noelle remained calm, and that unnerved Hendrix more than any outburst could have.
He frowned deeply, struggling for a moment before finally forcing out the words. "He's not a good person."
What do you think?
