The Road to Rebirth Her Fresh Start and His Late Sorrow

Chapter 24

That meant Nancy was ready to go all the way with him.

Before Cyrus could revel in his elation, his phone suddenly rang.

He answered immediately, and Caleb's voice came through.

"Mr. Gordon, Mr. Robertson's visit to the police station should have nothing to do with Mrs. Gordon. Farley Robertson got locked up last night for assault, and Mr. Robertson was there to bail him out. He was there to pick up Farley from the station."

Cyrus' pupils dilated, realizing Nancy and Baldrick's meeting was accidental.

"Alright." Cyrus couldn't hide his joy, quickly turning to Nancy. "Nancy, I misunderstood you."

Nancy's face was a picture of scorn. "Oh really? Wasn't I sneaking around with Baldrick?"

Cyrus knew Nancy was angry and apologized swiftly, "Nancy, I'm sorry. You don't know that Baldrick still has his sights set on you. That's why I panicked."

"Nancy, you have no idea how much you mean to me. I'm terrified of losing you!"

By the end, Cyrus' eyes were red, his voice tinged with an indescribable grievance.

Nancy clenched her fists, feeling as if Cyrus' words were a slap in the face.

Her gaze fixed on Cyrus. She couldn't take it anymore.

"Cyrus, do you care about me from your heart?" asked Nancy.

Cyrus answered with conviction, "Of course I do. No one cares about you more than I do."

"I doubt that. When Hayley got swarmed by paparazzi, you left me behind to whisk her away." Nancy scoffed, "A reporter even asked me if the baby Hayley's carrying is yours! Forget them. I want to know if the child is yours or Norton's!"

"It's Norton's, of course. Hayley almost had a miscarriage. So, I took her to the hospital. It doesn't mean I care about her." Cyrus blurted out, his voice tinged with urgency and a touch of anger at being exposed. "Nancy, can't you see how I feel about you? Everyone might cheat, but I never would. You are my life!" Nancy clenched her teeth, thinking that if she really were the love of Cyrus' life, he wouldn't have been with Hayley, and Hayley certainly wouldn't be pregnant.

And yet, Cyrus was still lying to her face. Wasn't that disgusting?

Nancy didn't want to hear anymore, coldly saying, "Say whatever you want, but don't forget to hold a press conference to clear things up."

Cyrus sounded helpless. "You're still mad. Why do we need a press conference? Innocent people don't need to prove their innocence."

"Nancy, there's nothing between me and Hayley. She's Norton's woman. Otherwise, as just an actress, I wouldn't even spare her a second glance..."

"Hmm, you've said that before. I got it." Nancy sneered.

So, Cyrus still refused to hold a press conference to deny his involvement with Hayley. She understood, so there was no need for excuses.

Seeing Nancy's cold demeanor, Cyrus suddenly felt an indefinable sense of defeat, knowing Hayley would never treat him this way.noveldrama

The spacious living room fell silent. The atmosphere grew tense, marked by an awkwardness that was hard to describe.

The phone rang again.

Cyrus moved closer to Nancy. "Nancy, who's looking for you this time?"

Nancy glanced at the man who had suddenly drawn near, especially disliking Hayley's perfume scent still lingering on him. But then, she remembered she was about to leave and forcibly held back her disgust. Nancy checked her phone. "It's your mother."

Cyrus felt a wave of relief but kept his composure, urging with a smile, "Then you better answer it." Nancy answered the call.

Wilma's joyful voice sounded on the other end, "Nancy, have you and Cyrus hit the road yet? I heard you felt unwell recently, so I made you some soup."
