The Silent 682
682.Chapter 682
"Who's there?" Sophie's sharp voice cut through the stillness.
She immediately sensed something was off.
Her King Parasite stirred, signaling that something-or someone-had entered the
room.
Instinctively, she assumed it was a person. Her eyes swept across every corner, but the room was empty.
Her frown deepened. "Search again," she commanded silently. The King Parasite obeyed, scouring the room twice more. Still, there was nothing.
Sophie's brows furrowed tightly. The King Parasite never made mistakes.
This was no ordinary parasite-it was the King Parasite, a powerful entity entrusted to her by those who had once sought to protect her.
It was the reason she had defied death and stood here now, alive and unyielding.
Their fates were intertwined. If she died, the King Parasite would perish with her. And if it died, so would she. That bond was absolute, and Sophie would never doubt it.
If the King Parasite sensed something, then it had to be real. Whatever had slipped past its watch was no ordinary presence.
'Wait, could it be another parasite?' The thought sent a chill down her spine.
She recalled the warning she had received: Hasen City was home to other sorcerers. But there were rules-unspoken but ironclad. Trespassing on another's territory without permission wasn't just reckless; it was a provocation, a declaration of war.
'Could another sorcerer have noticed something strange about the parasites I refined and decided to target me?'
'It's not that I don't suspect Adeline, but that fool probably doesn't even know what
a sorcerer is, let alone hire one.'
'No, wait! Could it be Father?'
Sophie's eyes widened in shock.
She remembered Adeline mentioning she'd gone to see Benedict. At the time, Sophie hadn't believed her.
But now, doubt began to creep in.noveldrama
If it was his father, he might know sorcerers in Hasen City and could have hired
one. 'So, for Adeline's sake, is Father re Successfully unlocked! e, his own daughter?'
"Damn it!" Sophie cursed under her breath.

Her anger erupted, and a murderous glint flashed in her eyes.
"Someone, come here!"
Two servants with vacant expressions immediately entered the room.
"Bring me kerosene, and burn this room to the ground!" Sophie ordered coldly.
Whether it was a sorcerer hired by her father or not, she was determined to force them out into the open.
Anyone who dared to play tricks under her nose deserved to die.
If they refused to show themselves, she'd make them come out by force.
After moving Caleb to safety, Sophie commanded her parasites to encircle the room, ensuring that once the fire started, not a single parasite would escape.
The room was quickly consumed by flames, the kerosene igniting into a roaring blaze.
Thick smoke spiraled into the sky, drawing the attention of nearby neighbors. Some, mistaking it for an accidental fire, came over to offer their assistance. Sophie had her people block them from getting involved and sent them away. Meanwhile, on the other side of the estate, Adeline noticed the commotion.
"What's going on? Why is Caleb's courtyard on fire?" she exclaimed, her voice laced with panic.
Without a moment's hesitation, she dashed toward the source of the flames, her heart pounding with dread.
When she arrived, the sight before her made her blood run cold. Sophie stood outside the burning courtyard, calm and composed, while Caleb lay motionless on the ground at her feet, discarded like a broken doll.
"Caleb!" Adeline's anguished scream pierced the air, raw and heart-wrenching.
"You vile woman! How dare you harm my son? I'll kill you for this!" she shrieked, her voice trembling with fury and despair.
Her mind spiraled into chaos, convinced that Sophie had already taken Caleb's life without mercy.
Believing her son was dead, Adeline's grief turned into a blinding rage. She charged at Sophie, her eyes blazing with the determination to drag her down to hell with her.
"Courting death, are you?" Sophie sneered, kicking Adeline to the ground with ease. She stepped forward swiftly, her hand latching onto Adeline's throat like a vice.
"Perfect timing. I was just about to come for you," Sophie said coldly, her grip tightening.
Her voice turned icy, her eyes sharp as daggers. "Talk! Did you go to Father and

him hire a sorcerer to deal with me?"
Adeline's face turned crimson as she clawed at Sophie's hands, desperate for air, but her efforts were in vain.
Through gritted teeth, she glared at Sophie, her voice strained and defiant. "Yes... I did! So what? You killed Caleb... my son! If I die here today, Benedict will make sure you pay!"
Adeline knew deep down that her brother Benedict never truly valued her, but right now, she was determined to pit Sophie against Benedict in a brutal clash.
The Marquis's estate had fallen into ruin, and it was all because of her brother and that damned illegitimate daughter.
'Fine then, let them fight! Let them tear each other apart! Let them fight to death to avenge my son!
Sophie's hand landed hard across Adeline's face, the slap echoing sharply.
"You want to die? Not a chance! I'll keep you alive just to make you suffer. I'll make sure everyone in the Marquis's estate wishes they were dead!" Sophie snarled, her voice dripping with venom.
She focused her senses on the parasite eggs inside Adeline and felt a brief sense of relief when she found them still intact. Her gaze then shifted back to the burning house, her eyes locked on the flickering flames.
What she didn't realize was that the parasite eggs were no longer inside Adeline. Instead, they had been transferred to the abdomen of a spider lurking behind Adeline. Adeline, who had been thrown to the ground, initially planned to charge at Sophie again, ready to die together with her.
But in that moment, she felt something poke her from behind.
Realizing it might be the eyeball spider Eliza had given her, Adeline quickly suppressed her rage.
She discreetly hid the spider in her sleeve and rushed over to check on Caleb's
condition.
"Thank goodness..."
Her son was still alive.
Though he was barely clinging to life, she swore she would save him and her husband. As for Sophie, she would make sure that woman paid with her life!
