Chapter 879
David's expression switched up visibly, and he said, "I've never seen that stone tablet in my entire life. I don't have it."
Listening to his words, Matthew could vaguely guess that David was afraid of getting caught up in any sort of trouble, so he said, "You've misunderstood me. I'm not here to hold you accountable for anything that's happened. I just want to buy that stone tablet."
David then shook his head and said, "I really don't know anything about the stone tablet."
"It doesn't seem like we're on the same page." Matthew cleared his throat and said, "I'm here to buy the stone tablet, and I'm willing to pay a hundred grand for it."
Upon hearing that, David widened his eyes. "How much did you say you'd offer?" Matthew then emphasized every syllable as he repeated, "A hundred grand."
David found it hard to believe and asked, "Are you sure you're willing to pay a hundred grand for a mere piece of stone?"
Then, Matthew nodded his head seriously. "Of course. Honestly speaking, I don't know how valuable the stone tablet is because I'm not familiar with its ins and outs. I'm only here to buy it on behalf of my friend."noveldrama
David frowned when he heard that and started pacing around the house. He had already sold the stone tablet to someone else for only 500 dollars, but there was nothing he could do now even if he knew he had suffered a huge loss.
He then shook his head and said, "I've already sold it to someone else, so it doesn't really matter whether it's more valuable than what it seems. I've nothing to do with it anymore."
This was exactly what Matthew was worried about. It really was as the saying went-you attracted what you feared.
Still, he thought for a moment before he said, "Can you help me find the person who has the stone tablet if I give you 500 dollars?"
Hearing that, David scrutinized Matthew a little before he agreed. But he warned, "I can do that, but I can't guarantee that he still has the stone tablet with him."
Matthew smiled. "Let me transfer the 500 dollars to you first."
"Alright, transfer it to me first." David pulled out his phone.
Matthew did the same and transferred the money to David's bank account. Afterward, he said, "Alright, take me to buy the stone tablet now."
Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the entrance of Serenity Oaks Community.
David pointed at Serenity Oaks Community and said, "The guy who bought from me lives here, but they Wet unknown cars enter since they house high-end residences."
Having heard that, Matthew observed his surroundings and parked by the
roadside before he walked toward the entrance with David.
They were reaching the entrance when David gradually slowed down and said, "There are two security guards at the entrance."
"I see them." Matthew hummed in reply.
Then, David said awkwardly, "Both of them know who I am."
Matthew only replied casually, "What's wrong with that? I'm not in a hurry, so you can chat with them for
a bit first. We'll find the guy with the stone tablet afterward."
David only frowned with a bitter expression.
Soon, they reached the entrance, and one of the security guards, Diego Luis, stopped them. He was a little tanned and chubby, and he said, "Stop right there!"
Immediately, David took out a packet of cigarettes and handed it to Diego, saying, "Oh, you're on duty? Have a smoke."
Diego then replied impatiently, "Just go away. Your tricks won't work on me."
David laughed a little and said, "I'm here to look for someone."
But Diego retorted coldly, "You might be here to look for someone, but who knows if they want to see you?"
David maintained his smile and said, "Of course, he'd want to see me. I'm his friend. Besides, I'm here to introduce him to a customer."
Diego then replied in the same icy tone, "If you really are friends with him, give him a call. I'll let you in as long as he says you're his friend."
Hearing that, David's expression faltered into an awkward one. He murmured, "I don't have his number, but I really need to find him for something."
Diego sneered in contempt, "How dare you say that you're friends when you don't even have his number? Why don't you take a look at yourself first?
"It's so obvious that you're a peasant, considering how washed out your work attire is. I'm telling you, even my household staff dress better than you. Stop embarrassing yourself and screw off!"
What do you think?
