The Double or more Life of the Fake Heiress (Mirabella)

Chapter 1386

Dane knew Presley had someone powerful backing him, but he hadn't expected anyone who could even make the Shepherd family take notice. No wonder Mr. Boyd had been pressured into handing over control not too long ago.

With a firm grip on the incense box, Dane turned to Presley. "Alright, I'll give it a shot."

After all, it was just ordinary incense. Once it was burning, it wouldn't draw any attention. And even if someone did trace it back to the incense, it wouldn't prove anything. Coincidences happen, right?

Seeing Dane agree, Presley's expression softened a bit. "To achieve great things, you need guts. If you're going to be scared all the time, you might as well have chosen to be a simple pharmacist from the start."

Dane nodded, his respect growing. "You're right, Mr. President."

At the mention of 'President,' Presley raised an eyebrow but coughed slightly, trying to maintain a serious demeanor. "Let's just keep that as a joke for now."

After checking the time, Presley stood up from the couch. "Is there anything else you need?"

Dane quickly got to his feet. "No, that's it. I won't take up any more of your time." Presley waved him off, indeed having things to do outside.

Three days passed in a blur.

In the hospital, James had just settled into a chair when he saw Trevor, who had been lying in bed, jump up and rush to the bathroom. Raising an eyebrow at the sudden movement, he waited.

Two minutes later, Trevor emerged, clutching his stomach and looking utterly exhausted. He crawled back into bed and leaned weakly against the headboard. "In all my years, I've never spent twenty out of twenty-four hours running to the bathroom."

And it had been like that for three days straight.

James casually crossed his legs, his tone light. "A bit of detoxing is good for the body and soul."

Trevor's lips twitched, convinced his son's sharp wit couldn't possibly have come from him.noveldrama

"What were you guys doing in those uncharted forests?" James asked, ignoring his father's annoyed look.

"Exploring, what else?" Trevor shrugged, keeping his expression neutral.

James smirked. "Must be nice to have that kind of time on your hands."

Trevor coughed. "You wouldn't care even if I told you."

"How do you know if you don't tell me?" James tilted his head, eyeing Trevor. "Especially since you almost risked your life over it."

Trevor awkwardly looked away. "It was a confidential mission from the

association. But, like you see, no harm done."

James chuckled softly.

Trevor was left speechless.

Their conversation didn't linger on the expedition for long and soon shifted topics. However, they barely exchanged a few words before Trevor made another dash for the bathroom.

"When you see your girlfriend next, ask her how long this 'detox' is supposed to last," Trevor said upon returning to his bed.

Speaking of which, James remarked, "That reminds me, we haven't settled the

medical bills for your team's adventure yet."

"Medical bills?" Trevor was puzzled. "What bills?"

James calmly adjusted his sleeve. "My girlfriend doesn't work for free."

It finally dawned on Trevor.

Just then, James's phone rang. He

took it out and before answering,

said to Trevor, "By the way, the billing will be according to the association president's rates. Just

transfer it to my account, thanks, Dad."

Trevor was left stunned.
