Chapter 1374
Wyatt checked his Messenger app and quickly forwarded the image Mirabella had sent him to his team, making sure to give them clear instructions. James was a priority, no doubt, but he couldn't overlook the future lady of the house either.
Once he was done, Wyatt pulled up an empty chair and settled in, eyes glued to the screen as he monitored the tracking updates. Every now and then, he tried to send out a communication signal. As the minutes turned into hours, the signal on the screen inched closer to their base.
Night had fully set in when suddenly, Wyatt's previously silent headset started crackling with static. His face broke into a smile. He jumped up, adjusting the frequency on his headset while striding outside, gesturing for some of his crew to grab flashlights and follow him.
They hurried to the edge of the uncharted forest, stopping at a marked spot, not daring to go any further. A few more tense minutes passed before Wyatt finally got a connection. He asked eagerly, "James, are you guys close? I'm waiting at the exit."
A low 'yeah' was all he got in return. Wyatt let out a relieved sigh and stood by quietly, waiting.
Before long, under the cover of night, a group emerged from the mysterious forest, led by James, whose presence was as commanding as ever. Curtis and three others followed him, each carrying a member of the archaeological team on their back.noveldrama
Wyatt rushed forward, his eyes scanning the people they were carrying, especially the unconscious Trevor. His heart skipped a beat. "Is Trevor hurt?" he asked.
"Yeah," James replied with a serious look. "Let's get moving."
Wyatt nodded and signaled for the men he brought to help out. Given the condition of the archaeological team, they wasted no time and headed straight back to the plane.
Soon enough, the plane was airborne, heading back to the capital.
Onboard, after checking on the injured team members, Wyatt made his way to the front cabin to check on James, who was slumped in a sofa chair. "James, are you okay?" he asked.
James simply waved a tired hand. After over ten hours of searching, he looked worn out.
Wyatt thought about asking what had happened in the forest to leave the team so battered, but seeing James's exhausted face, he held back. Instead, he quietly slipped into the back cabin.
"Curtis, where did you find Trevor and the others in such rough shape?" Wyatt asked as he sat next to Curtis, who was tending to his own injuries.
Curtis was wrapping a bandage tightly around his raw, abraded wrist, seemingly unfazed by the pain. “In a cave on a cliffside," he finally said.
Wyatt nodded, understanding why they all had cuts and bruises. "What was it like in there? We had top-notch communicators and even set up signal towers. Why did we lose contact as soon as we went in?" sŵnovel
Curtis shook his head, equally puzzled. "Aside from it being hard to navigate, it wasn't much different from a regular forest. Maybe the signal was knocked out by some kind of magnetic interference?"
What do you think?
