Caught her securely
Iris cooked the dinner in the evening while the old lady was outside. She didn’t want to live like a free-loader person in that house. She tasted the soup and put the bowl aside.
“Why are you cooking? I could have done this work,” Dorothy said as she entered the kitchen with a basket in her hand. She put the basket on the counter.
“I thought to cook for us, Grandma. You gave me a place to live and I appreciate you for that,” Iris asserted with a smile. “I will set the table for us,” she affirmed.
“That will be great. I’ll wait for you outside in the yard,” Dorothy said and walked out of the kitchen.
Iris always wanted to live a life like this. She got a grandmother figure, who was quite sweet in her nature. Iris emptied the soup made of potatoes and other vegetables into a bigger copper bowl and took it out.
However, to her surprise, she didn’t find Dorothy outside. Iris placed the bowl on the table present in the yard and went to bring other utensils along with a big bowl of rice for them.
As she set the table, Dorothy came from outside the house running in her direction. “Iris, you need to run. Some masked men are coming this way. I think they are bandits,” Dorothy said with a panicked look.
“What? We both should run then,” Iris asserted.
“I’m old. I won’t be able to run much. You should run first. Go to your left and turn Westward,” Dorothy told her. Bandits were evil. They would not only loot the people, but if found young women in the house, they might sexually harass them. Dorothy did not want any such thing to happen with Iris.
“Grandma, I cannot leave you here,” Iris said, her eyes welling up in tears.
“Iris, don’t delay. Run from here. Listen to me. You are young and if bandits see you they might do something to you,” Dorothy said. When Iris didn’t listen to her, Dorothy herself dragged her to the other side of the house.
She pushed Iris and asked her to run. “They are here, Iris. You must run,” Dorothy said again. Iris shook her head and quickly hugged her.
“I have no one left. You are the only person I found so caring and humble. I cannot leave Grandma alone here. Whatever will happen, I will bear its consequences too. I cannot afford to lose a motherly figure like you,” Iris pronounced, not wanting to run like a coward.
Dorothy couldn’t believe her ears. Her own sons never cared about her and left her side. She pulled away from Iris and continued, “Don’t do this, Iris. What if they do something to you and sell you later somewhere? You know how men are! Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine. Just go in the direction, which I’ve guided you,” she again explained to Iris and pushed her away.
After Dorothy’s insistence, Iris took a few steps back before slowly walking back.
“Go. Don’t look back,” Dorothy said. Soon, Iris disappeared from her sight while she stayed there. The bandits had come to loot the place while they started throwing things here and there.
“Where is Iris?” One of them spotted Dorothy, who was shocked to hear the name from the masked man’s mouth. She thought they were bandits, but it appeared they were someone to kill Iris.
Dorothy remained quiet when her hair was grabbed and she was dragged to the front of the house. “I found her in the house, Jason,” the man told their leader, who appeared to be a werewolf to Dorothy.
“Where is Iris?” Jason asked as he approached the old lady and grabbed her neck. “Where did you hide her?” he queried.
Dorothy remained quiet when Jason’s fingers started squeezing her throat. The old woman felt the air leaving her lungs and her eyes fluttered shut.
However, at that moment, a huge blow landed on his head, causing his grip to lose from Dorothy’s neck.
Iris had a thick bamboo stick in her hand which she used to hit Jason. She didn’t run away because her heart didn’t agree with it.
Jason turned around to see and found Iris in front of her. The three of his minions were ready to catch her when Jason stopped them. “I didn’t expect you to be this beautiful, Iris,” Jason said and he looked at the blood that covered his hand after he ran his fingers through his hair.
Dorothy fainted because of the lack of air and fell to the ground while Iris remained firmly in her place.
“You tried to harm a werewolf,” Jason muttered as he scrunched his nose and then he approached Iris. He hit Iris, causing her to fall on the ground since the impact was huge.
Iris hit her head on the ground and her forehead started bleeding where it got the hit. Jason picked her up by her hair making her scream loud. “I’m ordered to kill you though I seriously want to make a kind of us,” Jason whispered in her ear. His lips brushed against her earlobe causing her to flinch in fear.
Iris caught his other free hand and brought it to her mouth. She bit his hand and ran away from his grasp as soon as he let her go.
Jason stopped his men and told them he would take care of Iris. He rushed out of the house and within a few seconds, he caught her.
“You cannot win against a werewolf,” Jason said with a smirk. He then took out a dagger from the inner pocket of his overcoat and he removed the scabbard.
“How do you wish to die, Iris? An instant death or a slow death?” Jason quirked his eyebrow at her with a grin across his lips.
Iris furrowed her brows together and tears streamed down her cheeks. She was happy that she fought until the very end. Iris closed her eyes knowing that it was her end.
After a few seconds, she opened her eyes upon hearing the thud on the ground and saw Adolphus in front of her.All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
“M-master,” Iris whispered and everything turned dark before her eyes.
However, before she could touch the floor, Adolphus caught her securely in his arms.
