Chapter 7
Dorothy pondered for a few seconds before replying, “I’ve got a boyfriend.” This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
She didn’t buy into this pie-in-the-sky kind of luck. She’d never had such a lucky break in her life and she didn’t plan to start believing
now.
Whether he was trying to test her further or genuinely needed a wife for some reason, she had no interest in playing along. A simple lie about having a boyfriend should solve all her problems..
Upon hearing this, Everett’s lips tightened, and his gaze deepened.
“Is that so?”
“Why would I lie to Mr. Lopez?”
Before he could respond, Dorothy bowed slightly. “I won’t bother you anymore, so could you please pass me the contract?”
“Sure.
Everett coldly nodded, not trying to keep her any longer. He simply stated that the contract was with his secretary and closed the door of the suite.
Dorothy left quickly with the contract, wishing the conversation she just had was a figment of her imagination.
Everett wanted to marry her?
What a joke!
After getting the contract, Dorothy didn’t go straight to Anna for the handover. Instead, she went to Mr. Percy.

She had been working on this project for a very long time, so it wouldn’t make sense to suddenly back out. Of course, she knew that, as a leader, Mr. Percy’s dignity needed to be saved. So, even if she felt wronged, she had to apologize for the sake of her job.
As soon as Mr. Percy saw Dorothy, his face fell.
“What is it?”
“Sorry, Mr. Percy… I made you angry yesterday. I thought about it, and I was indeed in the wrong.” Dorothy stepped forward with a smile. “But I’ve been in charge of the SinoSuccess Enterprises project all along. I’m afraid if I suddenly hand it over to Anna, there might be oversights that could affect this project. I hope you could let it slide and give me another chance.”
She humbled herself and sincerely advised Mr. Percy not to act rashly.
The Harmony Ventures issue had already upset the higher-ups. If there were any problems with SinoSuccess Enterprises, it wouldn’t just be her, Dorothy, who’d get fired.
After some thinking, Mr. Percy gave her a sidelong glance.
“So, you’re saying that you’re indispensable to the SinoSuccess Enterprises project?”
“Oh, no! I just want the SinoSuccess Enterprises project to go smoothly. Look at the contract. I’ve negotiated with the other party many times to finally get the price to its highest point. I’m sure you understand how much effort that took.”
Mr. Percy scanned the contract, and indeed, Dorothy had negotiated a higher price than expected.
He cleared his throat and furrowed his brows. “This is your last chance. You saw yesterday how strictly Mr. Lopez controls the entire company. If there are any issues with SinoSuccess Enterprises, you can just pack your bags.”
After seeing him relent, Dorothy finally breathed a sigh of relief. “I’ll do my best. Thank you, Mr. Percy.”
Around the corner of the hotel, a tall man withdrew his gaze while snuffing out the cigarette in his hand with a cold expression. Standing nearby, Jeffrey Turner chuckled while exuding an air of roguishness. “Wow, she’s quite a looker, no wonder even a demigod like you fell for her. Don’t worry, leave it to me. It’s not hard for me to get a woman. Just say the word, and I guarantee she’ll be in your bed tonight, all docile.”
Everett remained silent, half-submerged in the darkness.
Since he didn’t respond, Jeffrey got more excited. “For a small-time employee like her, I don’t even need to use force. Just a little intimidation, and she’ll be putty in my hands.”
“If you lay a finger on her, don’t bother coming back home.”
