Roman’s POV
“Postpone my meeting with the marketing team indefinitely and tell the team leader of the auditing department to meet me in two hours for a brief meeting.” I instructed Nathan, as we both walked into my office.
We had just finished attending a meeting with some shareholders from other companies, and for some reason I couldn’t quite fathom, most of them were asking to sell their shares to get their money back.
“Sir, Alexander Guilon has withdrawn from the business proposal, sir. He asked me to inform you.” Nathan said, as I sat on the swivel chair.
My fave contorted into a frown, as I tried to deduce what could have brought the sudden withdrawal.
The Alexander Guilon I knew had been quite desperate to form a business alliance with me, so having him cancel his plea to merge our companies was really strange to hear.
I shook off the irritable memories of what had transpired between us, on the last day he had been to my company as I scrolled through my tablet, to see the rest of my schedule for that day.
Then, it dawned on me.
Alexander Guilon had probably hatched a plan with the other shareholders to sell their shares to me, and form a possible business alliance with themselves.
I scoffed, and shook my head at the thought.
I knew Alexander Guilon was a lot of things, but I didn’t know he was that stupid to think it’d be easy to gain most of my shareholders over.
The old fool had probably forgotten that business was a dirty, tricky game for money-hungry people.
I just had to make an attractive offer to the shareholders that they’d immediately run back to my company to buy more shares.
I mean, who in their right minds would not want to be a shareholder of my company?
Alexander was such a stupid businessman.
No wonder why that ungrateful gold digger called Sofie had almost managed to rip him off his generational wealth.
“Cancel the rest of my schedule for today. I don’t want to see anybody, and you better adhere to my instructions. If anyone dares to walk through my office doors after I’ve given you a sound warning to not allow anybody in, I’ll fire you with immediate effect.” I said, darting Nathan a icy stare.
He nodded fervently and bowed. “Yes, sir. I won’t make any mistake.”
Afterward, he left and I poured my concentration onto the barrage of paperworks I had to review and sign before the day ended.
Instinctively, my hand reached sideways for my cup of iced americano and I was displeased when I realized that it was empty.
I clicked on the intercom and said. “Send someone in with two cups of iced coffee.”
Minutes later, a woman walked in with the coffee, quietly placed it on the table and bowed before exiting my office.
I groaned inwardly, when after an hour the paperwork didn’t seem to have reduced at all.
But it was better to continue signing away, than mulling over the thoughts of Sofie’s unfaithfulness.
Placing my pen on the desk, I wrung my neck sideways with my hands until the tensed muscles within cracked.
Before another hour passed, I had gone through two more cups of iced americano.
I didn’t realize there was a knock on the door until Nathan walked in, looking sheepish.
“I’ve been knocking for a while now but you didn’t answer, so I let myself in, sir.” He explained, to which I nodded.
“Oh, I was probably caught up with these proposals,” I looked down at the heaps of documents, before gazing up at him. “What do you want?”
“Attorney Mauricio is waiting in the lobby, sir. Should I allow him in?” Nathan asked.
I had never felt the urge to murder someone like I did at that moment, as I glared at my assistant.
“Are you fucking stupid? Did I or did I not tell you that I didn’t want to see anyone today?” I hurled at him.
He cowered a little as he rambled out, “You did, sir. I’m sorry, sir. I wasn’t sure that also applied to your friend, sir. Excuse me, sir.”
“So what are you going to tell him now?” I huffed as he made to leave.
He didn’t say anything and just bowed.
“Keep playing with your job, Nathan. Just know that when I fire you, even Nana won’t be able to plead with me to rehire you.” I scoffed.
“I’m sorry, sir.”
“Enough of that, let him in.”
As Nathan walked out, I braced myself to see Damien and inwardly hoped I didn’t jump him as soon as I saw him.
“Roman, what the hell is fucking wrong with you?” He hollered as he walked in.
Ignoring my initial resolve to play cool, I got up, pocketed my hands and stood in the middle of the room, a few steps away from him.
“I should be asking you that, since you just came into my office to start barking.” I said coolly.
He snorted out an incredulous laughter and shook his head, “Me? Barking? So you are calling me, Damien a dog.”
“I mean, a person in their right senses won’t act so uncouth like an animal.” I replied, carelessly.
He stormed toward me and pushed at my chest which made me stumble backward. I shot him a murderous glare as I stood upright.
“Are you fucking crazy?” I spat, menacingly walking toward him.
“I’ve been taking your bullshit for weeks now without saying anything but I can’t deal with this shit anymore, what the hell is wrong with your immature ass?” He retorted, heatedly.
I fisted his shirt aggressively and gritted out, “Mind your fucking language, you damned piece of shit!”
“Woah, I am the piece of shit now, huh? I’ve been calling you and texting you for days to meet up with you but I got no response, why? Because you decided to block me everywhere for no good reason, tell me is that what a mature man should do?” He bellowed.
That did it, I couldn’t hold myself back anymore.
“And why the hell would I want to speak to a fucking betrayal of a friend like you?” I yelled.
His angry expression morphed into a confused one as he stared at me. “What? Betrayal? How did I betray you?”
“Oh, for fuck’s sake, Damien! Just cut the goddamned bullshit!” I growled.
“I swear, I have no idea what you’re yapping on about!” He countered.
“Well, if you must know, I found out about you and Sofie. I know you’re fucking my woman, I know you’re both cheating on me, and to think I fucking trusted you!” I shouted.
Damien burst into laughter, which heightened my ire.NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
I felt the urge to punch the laughter off his face as he looked me in the eye, “You are so fucking stupid, Roman. I thought you were above all these!”
“Above what, huh? Does she remind you of Chloe, is that why you decided to fuck her?” I spat, and Damien’s eyes darkened.
I knew I shouldn’t have said that, but I was too vexed to care.
In a split second, Damien’s fist met with my jaw and the force nearly sent me staggering to the floor but I held onto the armchair beside me to support myself.
I really deserved that punch.
“You’re a fucking bastard for daring to bring my wife’s name into this. Now I see why Sofie is determined to keep this away from you, it’s because you’re nothing but a bloody scumbag!” He barked.
I wiped a speck of blood off my lower lip as I darted him a confused look.
Sofie was hiding something from me?
“What else is she hiding from me?” I hurled.
Damien inhaled deeply which angered me, what could it be that he was being hesitant to tell me about it?
“Sofie is pregnant with your child.” He whispered, and immediately, my anger fizzled to nothing.
“What?” I couldn’t believe my ears.
“Have you gone deaf? I said, Sofie is pregnant with your child. The only reason we’ve been meeting up is because of that. She needs someone by her side, do you even know that she has complications with her pregnancy?” He gritted out.
My Sofie was pregnant with our child, and what did I do?
I treated her like a whore and said all sorts of hateful, derogatory words to her.
“She earnestly begged me not to tell you about it, but I guess I’ve betrayed her trust because of you.” Damien said and shook his head before exiting my office.
My legs carried me to an armchair in the middle of my office and plopped me onto it.
Now it all made sense, the reason why Sofie had asked me if I wanted kids in the future that day, and like the asshole I was, I had blatantly told her I didn’t want them.
My poor cara. She must have felt so lonely when she found out about the baby.
About OUR baby.
Fuck, I had ruined everything.
