Cold
Sofie’s POV
I heaved a sigh of despondence as my heart sunk to the pit of my belly, on sighting the imposing structure of Roman’s estate.
“We’re here.” I mumbled quietly, to which Damien hummed.
“Do not hesitate to call me if you need anything, Sofie, and I mean literally anything, okay?” Damien uttered, unbuckling his seat belt and making to head out of the car.
I deduced he wanted to assist me with the car door, so I quickly spoke, “It’s fine, I can open the door on my own.”
“But seriously Sofie, don’t forget to let me know if you need my help, and also please think carefully about this decision of yours to keep the pregnancy a secret from Roman.” He reiterated himself.
“The first one, I will. But the second one, I can’t say.” I muttered, keeping my gaze rooted to the my lap.
I heard him sigh. “I won’t force you, I will try to respect your decision because after all, it is you who is carrying the child. Just make sure to take care of yourself and the little one inside you.”
I was moved to tears at his statement, because it was the first time that someone else apart from the obstetrician knew about my baby and referred to it as a living person.
“Thanks for today, Damien. I’ll head out now.” I said, my voice choked with suppressed sobs.
“Alright then. I’ll keep in touch.” He nodded, to which I mirrored before I finally got out of his car and made my way into the mansion.
When I got home, the house felt strangely cold, and quiet like something bad had happened or was about to happen, but I brushed the thoughts off as I trekked further into the house.
“Melissa, did something happen?” I asked her when she bowed to me.
“Nothing happened, ma’am. Why did you ask?”
“There’s no reason, I was just curious. Is Roman in?” I asked as I made to climb up the stairs.
“Yes, madam. He just got home a few minutes ago.”
Guilt clenched my throat as I let out a shaky exhale and sent a nod toward Melissa’s direction.
Maybe I shouldn’t made up such an extreme lie.
Now that I thought of it, I didn’t even get a reply back from Roman.
I trekked into our shared bedroom with clammy hands, and my heart violently throbbing within my chest and to my slight relief, Roman wasn’t inside.
The shower wasn’t running either, so I deduced Roman wasn’t in the bathroom.
I made my way to the study where I was sure I’d definitely find him but strangely, he wasn’t in there either.
I wondered where in the house he could be.
I was about to saunter downstairs to ask Antonio for Roman’s whereabouts when I heard someone yelling.
The voice sounded like Roman’s, so I went toward the direction and realized it was coming out from the private gym.
I frowned in confusion because Roman had never used the gym since I moved into the mansion, he always went to a private gym with Damien, so him using the gym at that time of the day and also swearing angrily was quite strange.
I knocked on the door thrice but he didn’t answer and just kept yelling.
I couldn’t even make out what he was saying because it was a mixture of Italian and English.
So I let myself in and the sight I beheld caused my eyes to widen in horror; Roman was boxing a punching bag and swearing at the poor equipment but the problem was that the punching bag had burst, and a mix of feathers and sand was now spilling out of it.
“Roman!” I screamed when I saw that he still wasn’t stopping.
It was only when I went behind him, and hit his shoulder that he finally registered my presence, and stopped his beastly behavior.
“Fuck, I really burst it.” He panted heavily before chuckling sardonically.
“W-What happened?” I stuttered.
“Sofie, you’re back quite early. I thought you had a class.” His voice came out plain and cold which made me feel uneasy.
“Y-yeah but it got cancelled.” I lied, to which he huffed and just shook his head.
“Okay.” He said in a monotone before he sat on a bench and took off his boxing gloves, and bandage.Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
Just okay. Nothing more, no cara, no tesoro or even doll.
Absolutely nothing.
Was he that upset that I had canceled the date?
“I’m sorry, babe. I couldn’t leave the class even if I wanted to because it was mandatory to attend.” The lies fell out of my mouth with fluid ease which baffled me.
I made to sit beside him and hook my arms around his neck when he got up and shook his head again.
“And I already said I was okay with it. You don’t have to apologize.” He replied harshly, without sparing me a glance before exiting the gym, leaving me all by myself.
What had just happened? I wondered within myself as he violently slammed the door shut.
I decided to give him some time before going after him because I didn’t want his anger to intensify.
When I strolled into the bedroom later that evening, Roman had already taken a shower and was laying in bed with a MacBook propped on his lap.
He darted the most lethal stare toward me before averting his focus back to the computer.
Something was now clear, it wasn’t that he was just mad, he was really mad and it was at me.
And it greatly disheartened me.
I quietly went into the bathroom, took a shower and donned my nightwear before climbing into bed.
To my utter despondence, Roman didn’t even act like I existed.
I couldn’t take it anymore, so I blurted out, “Did I do something wrong? Why are you being so cold to me?”
“You know what, Sofie. I’m really tired right now, today was not the best day for me, okay? So I’m not in the mood to chat with you.” He said, with his gaze still rooted to the MacBook.
“I’m sorry, I just feel uneasy since you aren’t talking to me.” I muttered before scooting closer toward him to place my head on his chest.
I was shocked when Roman moved further away from me, and placed a pillow between him and I but I didn’t utter a word, and just slept quietly with tears running down my face.
For some reason, it felt like this was the beginning of trouble in our paradise.
