Chapter 31
CASSANDRA
“So… what was up with that lady that pushed me out of the way when she was leaving your office? And why was she looking at me like I had just stolen something from her? And also, why was she crying? Did you do something or say something to make her cry?” I start to ask Nick as he drives out of his company’s parking lot. That lady looked like she wanted to strangle me on the spot, and I wear I just wanted to disappear with the way she was looking at me, it was so scary.
“Slow down with the questions, babe. How many questions do you want me to answer at once?” He chuckles, his eyes fixed on the road.
“As many as you possibly can, so start talking.” I say.
“Well, she’s my secretary Laura who has been in love with me way before I met you, and was always showing it.” He pauses, and I nod my head for him to continue, “She got angry at me because I brought you into the company as my P. A, a position she has apparently been eyeing, talked about how I shouldn’t trust you… Anyways, she quit because she is jealous, and although I’m not happy about it, I can’t change what has happened.” He says.Content is © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
I let what he said sink it, and for a split second I don’t understand what he’s saying about she telling him to not trust me, and then it dawns on me, that she must have told him I would attempt to kill him or something along those lines, and my mood immediately plummets down, as guilt fills me.
He has once mentioned before that he told a close friend of his about everything and I figure she’s the one. The reminder of what I had tried to do to an amazing person like Nick, makes guilt and hate for myself well up inside me, and I drop my head, so he won’t see how guilty I look. I hate being reminded of what I had tried to do to him, because it makes me feel like one day he’ll wake up and break up with me, because I once tried to kill him and he can’t trust me anymore.
He notices my mood, and pulls the car to a halt, before turning to face me. “Cassy.” He cups my face in his hands, making me look into my eyes, and I feel tears welling up in my eyes.
“I’m so sorry Nick, you know I am, and I’d never try to harm you again. Please, don’t leave me, I’d die if you do, I j-” I say, the words flowing out of my mouth without pause, but he cuts with off by putting his lips on mine, kissing me softly, and I feel my body start to heat up.
I grab his head, pulling him closer to be as I deepen the kiss, our tongues exploring each other’s mouth, as I let out a moan, starting to unbutton his shirt. He pulls away, chuckling as he stops me from unbuttoning his shirt, “Calm down tigress, we have somewhere to be.” He says and I look away in embarrassment.
“And also, the past should be left in the past. I’d never leave you because I can’t live without you, and I don’t care what you did in the past, all that matters are our present and future.” He says, making me blush, and he starts the car, driving to the park.
“I love you.” I say.
“I love you more.” He says, and we start to argue about who loves who more throughout the drive to the park.

“Why are we here again?” I ask Nick as we walk around the park which is almost empty since it’s already evening time. I inhale the fresh air in the park, enjoying the feel of the breeze against my skin.
“Because you said your father used to bring you here and it’s been a while since you’ve gone to one.” He says, making me smile, as we sit on a large swing in the park.
“What I actually said is that I’ve never been to a park since his death.” I chuckle, leaning my head on his shoulder, as the swing rocks forward and backwards gently.
“Just say thank you, and tell me how much you love me, and will never trade me for anyone or anything.” He says, and I can tell he’s pouting.
I hug him, while chuckling, “Thank you. I love you so much, and will never trade you for anyone or anything.”
He laughs and we sit in silence, enjoy the cool breeze blowing on our faces. This is just perfect. “Do you have any plans of settling down? I mean, to get married, have kids, you know?” I ask, waiting patiently for an answer, but he doesn’t say anything and for a few for minutes we sit in silence, and I start to wonder if I had said something wrong.
“If I didn’t have any plans of getting married, I wouldn’t be here with you, and I wouldn’t do everything to make you happy.” He says, and then plants a kiss on my head, making my heart leap. He just said he wants to marry me, right? I’m not dreaming, right?
“Then why haven’t you proposed?” I ask, my heart beating wildly.
“Because I’m not sure if she’s ready and I’m waiting for the right moment.” He says, and I stand up, walking a couple steps from the bench before turning to face him with a grin on my face. “What are you doing?” He asks, and I just smile, looking around the park for anything that I can use to make a ring
I spot a used straw hiding in the grass, and I run to take it, while Nick just looks at me with confusion. I walk back to him after making the straw into a huge circle, and go down on one knee, “Will you marry me, and make me the happiest woman on earth, Nick?” I ask him, giggling.
He looks shocked and then starts to laugh, pulling me up. “I should be proposing not you.”
“Says the society.” I laugh, “So, what’s it gon’ be?”
He looks at me for a while, a smile playing on his face, and then he grabs my chin, “Yes, I’ll marry you, crazy girl. I’ll be damned if I don’t.” He says and kisses me.
“He said YES!” I yell after pulling away from the kiss, and then I kiss him again.
