Tangled Temptations

Chapter 16

After wrapping up at work, Harvey turned down a few offers and drove himself to the restaurant.

At 8 p.m., the busiest time for the restaurant, Eloise was at the piano. She was in a smoky grey long dress tonight, baring her shoulders subtly, with her silky long hair resting gently around her waist.

She looked stunning, radiating a romantic aura.

Harvey, from behind his car window, watched her quietly for about ten minutes before he got out of the car and pushed the door open to go in. He ordered some random food and leaned back in his chair, continuing to listen to Eloise playing the piano.

He noticed that men approached her from time to time, clearly attracted by Eloise's charm. Eloise, however, always declined politely.

During her break, Eloise received a business card.

Eloise turned around and saw Harvey. He was sitting in a corner, holding a pre- dinner drink in his hand. He looked handsome and carried himself with grace.

Eloise didn't want to have too much contact with him, but she also didn't dare to offend him. So she went over. "Attorney Horigan."

Harvey nodded lightly, signaling her to sit down. As soon as Eloise sat down, Harvey noticed the fresh needle mark on the back of her hand. He guessed it might have been the result of catching a cold from the rain last night.

"Ms. Laurent, have you had dinner? Let's eat something together." Harvey was all business, a stark contrast to his earlier frivolity when handing over his business card.

Eloise put the business card on the table, saying somewhat awkwardly, "The restaurant has a policy that employees are not allowed to dine with customers during working hours."

Harvey didn't even look at the business card. He asked her, "What about after work? Would you have time to have a drink with me?"

His intentions were clear. Dating him would quickly solve her current predicament. She would no longer need to hustle for money. But it was just a game between a man and a woman. Harvey thought that since Eloise had been with Max before, she wouldn't mind this.

Besides, she had feelings when they hugged the last two times.

But Eloise didn't even consider it. She didn't know why Harvey suddenly took an interest in her. Aware of her situation, she chose her words carefully, trying not to offend him. "Attorney Horigan, I appreciate your help with my father's matter. I will find a way to repay you."

Harvey was surprised. He understood her meaning; she didn't want to have any relationship with him.

Money couldn't sway Eloise!

Harvey didn't like Eloise that much either. He was just drawn by her playing the piano. Plus the male instinct, was always irresistibly curious about what it felt like to possess what he never had.

Harvey picked up his business card, acting with utmost grace, not showing any displeasure. Eloise softly thanked him, her attitude humble.

Just as the atmosphere got awkward, Landon came over with a 16 or 17-year-old girl.

"Harvey!" Landon called out in a familiar tone, devoid of the competitive tension typical among men.

Harvey signaled him to sit down. Only then did Landon dare to sit down, and once he did, he started introducing his sister to Eloise, "This is my sister, Blake Bowen. She's very talented in piano. She just needs a good piano teacher now! Eloise, would you take her as a student?"

This made Eloise feel very awkward.

Landon's little scheme didn't bother Harvey. He took out $200 from his wallet, put it on the table and said, "Ms. Laurent, since you have important things to do, I won't bother you anymore."

Out of politeness, Eloise walked him to the restaurant door. Harvey didn't linger, he got into his car, nodded at her, and left. His demeanor was elegant, his manner refined, nothing like someone looking for a card game.
