Chapter 51
Chapter 51
"Are you throwing a tantrum?" Patrick asked.
He came closer to her, the tips of his handmade leather shoes touched the tips of her shoes. His face was filled with gentleness, but Sophia still felt that she was about to be suffocated.
Sophia lowered her head slightly. She ignored the sudden pain in her eyes.
The words she was about to say were easy and simple.
"Patrick, I'm not throwing a tantrum.Don't you feel that our way of getting along is bizarre? It's like two strangers jumping from the first step to the last step of marriage. There is no process at all in between” Sophia explained.
"So, do you want to test me because you lack a sense of security?" Patrick interrupted her, his voice cold.
Patrick's mood changed. He was now emitting coldness and a sense of restraint and alienation.
All the warmth a while back vanished.
His lips curved into a cold and indifferent smile.
The corners of his mouth were slightly pursed.
Sophia could not imagine what he was thinking right now.
Sophia bit her lip, "Don't misinterpret the meaning of my words.I am just making an analogy"
She knew that above her head was his intimidating gaze, but this kind of relationship problem did not mean that she would accept it! Her world had long been revolving around him, hadn't it? After a pause, she said, "For you, I have really given up."
Calm, objective, and clear, Sophia had always handled her feelings that way.
Should he be glad that she met such a sensible woman? Patrick didn't know whether to be grateful that she met a woman like Sophia or not.
"Sophia, are you saying that from the start, I was the only one overthinking things?"
He went around her side, got a cigarette from his pack, and lit it.
In the light blue smoke, Patrick stared at Sophia and realized that he could not understand the woman in front of him.
"I'm sorry” she said in a low voice.
Disappointed? Of course, he was disappointed.
It was not easy to calm down a heart that had already been stirred up.
He asked himself if there was any better way to deal with it than this.
The answer was no, Sophia.
She was indeed ruthless enough, much more ruthless than him.
After she parted unhappily with Patrick at the elevator, Sophia took the employee's elevator and returned to the General Manager Office.
She sat on her chair, and for some reason, her eyes suddenly felt sour. She raised her hand to touch her eyes, and they were already filled with tears.
Sometimes, it was not shameful to go against one's own principle and do things without limits.
It was a shame that such efforts were often without results.
She asked herself, 'Was it all worth it?’ It should be worth it.
At least in the future, she did not have to worry about her relationship with him being exposed, nor did she have to worry about him discovering Emma.
She should be happy.
‘There is nothing to cry about” Sophia told herself.
Her deskmate Jenelyn noticed Sophia's odd behavior.
She couldn't take it anymore as she stood up and walked up to her.
"What's wrong, Sophia? Why are you crying? Did you break up with your boyfriend?" Jenelyn asked curiously.
There were only two ways for a woman to cry.
One was to be moved by love, and the other was to suffer from heartbreak.
Sophia wiped away the tears on her face and smiled stubbornly.
"I have never been in love before, so how could I cry because of a heartbreak? I am just crying because of work-related stress."
Jenelyn understood that the work in their department was hard and sometimes depressing.
A newcomer like Sophia would have difficulty adapting to it for a while.
"Alright, stop crying. You can do it" Jenelyn said encouragingly.
Sophia nodded.
Yes, wouldn't it be over after a while? She had already endured for so many years.
What was there to be afraid of? During the lunch break, the various departments of the entire Evans Enterprise had received a notice.
Due to the company's executive changes, the company's ten-year anniversary celebration would be delayed for a month.
Jenelyn looked at the printed notice and cried sadly, "The original notice said that the celebration will be held in three days, and I even have the evening dress ready, but now I am told that it got postponed, which is simply too cruel."
Although Theresa's reaction was not as exaggerated as Jenelyn’s, she did not forget to try and find out the truth.
"Do you think the reason for the sudden delay is really because of the executive changes? How big of a high-level change could delay the company's ten-year anniversary celebration? Could it be that we now have a new president?"
Theresa speculated.
Meredith knocked Theresa on the head, "Are you stupid? President Evans built and owns this company. He can do anything he wants, maybe he suddenly has some other ideas."
Sophia sat quietly in her seat. She was also thinking of something that might have affected the celebration.
Last night, he told her that he would take a few days off after the company's ten-year anniversary celebration and then go to Australia with her.
She had just made it clear to Patrick that she would not go with him this morning.
Wasn't it a little too much of a coincidence that the celebration would suddenly be postponed?
‘From three days to one month, what is he planning?’ Sophia thought.
However, she felt that it might be her own wishful thinking as she thought about it.
Perhaps there really were some executive changes that happened today. She patted the sides of her cheeks with both hands, reminding herself to be sober and to erase any unrealistic fantasy in her mind.
At four o'clock in the afternoon, John walked into the president's office with a stack of documents and placed them on Patrick's desk.
"The executives of the Smith Group will arrive at Frostford City at six o'clock in the evening. This is the information I have prepared.I will inform Sophia later and ask her to bring the document packet and go with you."
Patrick was busy looking at the documents until he heard Sophia's name.
He frowned slightly.
"There's no need for Sophia.Change her to someone else" Patrick said flatly.
After hearing this, John was a little surprised and asked, "Why change her to someone else? Isn't her job to accompany you to socialize with others about the assessment work? Who do you want to change her to?"
Patrick did not answer and continued to read the documents.
Although John couldn't grasp Patrick's mood, he thought that his current state definitely had something to do with Sophia.
He joked, "I have never seen you so afraid of avoiding anyone before. But why are you avoiding her now? Are you afraid that it will be harder to forget Sophia if you spend more time with her?"
Patrick smiled, "Am I so indecisive when dealing with feelings?"
John thought about it and agreed, "Then why don't you tell Sophia? If the General Manager Office has no one else qualified for the job, then I will have to go to the Quality Control Department to find someone else"
Patrick thought for a moment and said, "Forget it, let's talk to Sophia"
John nodded, "Uhm.Then I will tell Sophia now.Do you need to explain it in particular?"
John had been by Patrick's side for many years.
He saw a flash of hesitation in the latter's eyes.
As if Patrick and Sophia didn't want to have any contact with each other, but because of work, they had to have contact. Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
This was definitely a difficult situation.
Sophia was a subordinate and Patrick was the president.
Instructions were followed by the employees while they were given by the executives of the company.
If Sophia were to know that she was working for Patrick tonight, maybe she would think that Patrick had arranged it deliberately.
Therefore, John asked Patrick if he needed to explain that Patrick did not deliberately arrange for her to work with him.
"No need, it's unnecessary"
John nodded knowingly and walked out.
Just as he arrived at the entrance of the General Manager Office, he met Sophia, who was holding a glass of water and looked like she was going to the pantry.
"Hello, Secretary John" Sophia greeted him.
Meeting her head-on, Sophia, as a subordinate, naturally had to greet him first.
"Hello" John softly replied, his eyes clearly revealed a playful light.
