Shadows In Durango

Chapter 107

*****Vincent's POV*****

I sat behind my desk alone, in the middle of the day with the curtains fully closed over - leaving me in the dark to think.

At this point my eyes burned for rest, but I still didn't allow it.

My father knew that I was in here waiting, but hadn't came in yet with any sort of an update. It had been around six hours since I had asked for his help this morning, and my thoughts seemed to have grown numb.

I currently hammered a pen back and forth on top of the wood of the desk, drumming it consistently with my fingers in an attempt to force myself to think this whole thing through.

How could I not know where she was by now?! Why had nobody seen her around town yet? Why was her phone still switched off?!

Emma and Reid were still asleep upstairs, and Daryl had tried to call me once an hour ago to which I just ignored and sent him a text to say that if it's an important update - he can text it to me since I don't want to hear his voice right now. It wasn't an update of any kind though. I assumed that he had tried to call Reid when he was conked out in his room and since he didn't get an answer, he then moved on to call me.

He quickly text me back, only to ask if there was an update yet, but I just read his text and didn't bother to respond.

Like he actually cares anyway!

Sighing heavily, I launch the pen in my hand across the room towards the door, and as I do that - I see the handle dip and my fathers head poke around the door - the pen just missing out on hitting him in the face by mere centimetres. "What the fuck was that?!" He fumes, as I straighten up at his presence - praying that he had found something, anything about where Sofia could be.

He glares down at the pen that I had thrown towards him, before letting himself fully in to the room, closing the door over behind him.

He moves swiftly, making his way towards the large windows first as he draws back the curtains and allows for the light to pour in to the room around us.

"You're sitting in here like you're in mourning! Get a grip of yourself Vincent!" He scolds harshly, clearly unamused with my sulking, but I don't care.

I felt horrendous after last night, and worse now that she seemed to have gone missing in to thin air...

"Any update? Or are you in here just to complain about how I'm acting?" I question fiercely, with my patience running thin for the whole situation.

"Actually, yes there is an update, but if you keep up that pissy tone with me I won't be telling you shit!" He states, sinking himself down in to the chair opposite me which was a humorous sight alone since this used to be his official office before he moved elsewhere and I took over the space.

"Fine, I'm sorry, just tell me!" I mutter out quickly, as he nods slowly and looks somewhat pleased with the apology I had willingly gave.

I didn't want to not find out whatever he knew, scared that if I crossed him he wouldn't help me out with this mess at all...

He could be tricky like that. Spiteful. But now wasn't the time to test him on it...

"A guy called me back, and they think they've picked her up on three cameras around town last night. He's going to email you the footage for review. There's also a car in one of the clips but he said that it's too poor quality to read the registration plate." My father gets to the point, as I lean forward with my elbows on the table - suddenly fully alert and interested in what he had to say. Ok...Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

That's good...

This is a start...

"Do they at least know what type of car it is?" I ask, suddenly feeling concerned that she had gotten in to a strangers vehicle.

Had she been taken?

Did somebody have her?

Or did she actually hitch hike somewhere out of town?

I needed to know more about that damn car...

I click open my phone, refreshing my emails over and over again for the footage to come through - but no sign of it yet.

It probably takes a while to download and to send and I was growing extremely impatient - fuck!

"Well, It's silver, they know that, I think they said it looks like a Jag..." He talks casually, moving his hands around as though we were having a normal dull conversation.

This might not be important to him, but it certainly was to me!

"So what now then? Did she get in the car? Did she walk on? What happened with the fucking car? Do they know who was driving? Was it a guy or a woman?!" I push out question after question, as he sighs heavily and looks irritated next. "Vincent, I don't know for crying out loud! Wait until they send it over and you can see it for yourself. I haven't watched it either!" My father states bluntly, as I sigh and lean back in my chair, closing my eyes over for a moment. I can't stand to wait, not with this!

I make a move next to open my side drawer, pulling out my laptop before loading it up - knowing that I would be able to get a better look on that screen as compared to my phone.

My father watches me, seeming bored with this, as I bite my tongue with cursing him out knowing that he had helped me thus far at least...

"Frazier called me again not too long ago too." He states, as I stop what I'm doing and stare back at him now.

"Well what did he say?!" I state, needing to know now, as he all but offers me that same blank look.

Nothing seemed to faze my father, he was very composed and very careful most of the time, but when he did get angry, everyone who stepped in his path knew about it.

"Wanted to know if I'd spoke to you about the marriage deal yet, and I said yes. But I said you had a busy couple of days ahead of you this weekend so you're going to take your time to think about it. He seemed fine with that... for now at least." He states, as I nod stiffly, thankful that he had helped to keep him on the back burner in this moment.

I don't think I could handle Sofia's father hounding me for an answer, not when I didn't even know where Sofia was or what had happened to her after she had left here last night...

I was desperate to talk to her, to apologise for not telling her about it all sooner, but first - I have to get her back!

Refreshing my emails on the laptop again, I almost bounce off of my chair when the files come through at the top - five attachments all in - three videos and two pictures!

"Is it there?" My father asks, deciding to stand and to round my side of the desk to have a look for himself.

This is it...

This is our first clue...

Here's hoping that the whole things just a silly misunderstanding.

For all we know, she could have checked herself in to a hotel for the night, taking some time out to think before getting in touch with someone again?

At least, I hope it's something like that...

I dread to think that it could be something far more sinister...
