Secrets Of The Neglected Wife

Chapter 689

Chapter 689:

Thirty seconds. That was hardly enough time!

Allison instantly dropped the notebook and sprinted toward the lab entrance, adrenaline fueling every step.

The corridor stretched like a maze, a stark, sterile tunnel with no end in sight. Just as Allison reached the lab’s steel doors, the facility exploded into a sea of red light, alarms shrieking through every corner.

“Alert! System breach detected!”

“Alert! Defense system activated!”

The sharp, robotic warning sliced through the air, throwing the lab into chaos.

“Allison, don’t go out!”

Gordon’s voice came through her earpiece. He was glued to the surveillance feed, his eyes darting over the screens.

“Guards in black — dozens of them — are swarming outside the lab. There’s no clear exit!”

Allison skidded to a halt, adrenaline spiking through her veins.

“Tell Kellan to cut the power. Now.”

If escape wasn’t an option, she needed shadows to hide in.

Without waiting for a reply, she pivoted and sprinted back into the depths of the corridor. A faint metallic tang hit her nostrils as she passed an open door. The walls bore faint smudges of blood, but the room was empty — whatever experimental subject had been in here was gone. Perfect.

Just then, darkness swallowed the entire lab, cutting off the red lights as if by her command.

“Kellan’s cut the power,” Gordon murmured through her earpiece. “But Allison, he says it won’t last more than a minute.”

His tone was urgent, filled with worry, as if he was gritting his teeth but powerless to do more.noveldrama

Allison could feel it. She nodded, even though he couldn’t see her. “Understood. Keep watch for me.”

She slipped into the room, closed the door softly, and pressed her back against it, fighting to steady her breathing.

But she felt something was off almost instantly. The air felt wrong, charged.

In the pitch-black room, a peculiar sensation washed over her. She sensed eyes on her — someone was watching. Could the experimental subject still be inside?

Allison froze. Her eyes told her the room was empty, but her instincts screamed that she needed to leave immediately. However, the cold, metallic wail of the alarm shattered her focus. The blaring doubled, a banshee wail ripping through the walls.
