Chapter 198: An Alpha’s Promise
Giselle's POV
The air hung heavy around me as my anger pulsed through my veins. As soon as I heard that Killian was doing something behind my back again, I instantly rushed to his office to confront him.
I stood before Killian's door, my back straight and my jaw set in a line of unyielding resolve.
The guard, a young man with a face still too smooth to hold the weight of authority, stood before me. His hands hovered nervously near the door handle as he faced me.
He must be a newly recruited Pack Warrior, and he was assigned to guard Killian's room to keep everyone outside.
"I need to speak to Killian," I spoke, my voice a low, icy rumble. It wasn't a request. It was a demand, a command delivered with the chilling certainty of a queen issuing a decree.
My words were laced with a chilling coldness, a warning that I was not to be trifled with, as I fixed my gaze on the mahogany door.
I could feel his palpable fear as he stared through me. I could see the sweat beading on his forehead before he answered me. "L-Luna, the Alpha is currently discussing Pack matters with Beta Ryder inside. He s-specifically ordered me n-not to let a-anyone inside," his voice turned softer and softer until he reached the end of his sentence.
"What did you say?" I finally met his gaze with one of my brows raised,Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
The guard lowered his head. He dared not meet my gaze, afraid that he might ignite my anger.
"Y-You c-can w-wait o-out h-here L-luna. I-I'll i-inform t-the A-alpha of y-your a-arrival," The guard's stuttering turned so bad that he looked like he was going to faint already.
There's no way that I'm going to stand out here and wait! So, I pushed him aside and barged inside. The door burst open, catching everyone's attention.
My eyes that usually sparkled with warmth, were now twin pools of fury as I stormed inside with rage silently seeping off me, pushing the air out of the room.
Ryder, instinctively sensing the shift in the atmosphere, rose from his seat and moved aside, his own apprehension now tinged with a touch of fear.
With a silent and almost predatory grace, I moved past him with purposeful and heavy steps.
A thunderclap of sound echoed in the room when I slammed my fist on Killian's mahogany desk.
"You're going to meet with Astrid?" I seethed out in almost a whisper.
Killian, who was caught in a crossfire, could only look at me in silence. "Who told you about this?" Killian calmly asked me, unbothered by my fury.
I scoffed. I couldn't believe he would
ask me this instead of rushing to give me an explanation. "Killian, you promise me and your son that you would forget her! What is this? Are you really going to betray your own yourown son?" I spoke exasperatingly as I stared right through him.
Killian's jaw fell open when he heard my accusations. His eyes snapped to Beta Ryder, who was still inside the office listening to us.
"I'll take my leave, Alpha," Beta Ryder interrupted before he walked out of the room. Once he was gone, Killian finally stood up and met my gaze fully.
"What are you talking about? The Shadowfang Pack sent us a letter. Everyone is coming, so of course I had to come. This had nothing to do with Astrid!" Killian shot back as if I was going to believe his words.
"Don't fool me, Killian!" I pointed a finger at him. "If this really had nothing to do about Astrid, then you should have told me about it. I wouldn't have to hear it from someone else!" I snapped at him. Killian's brows furrowed. "I was about to inform you, but I was held up by Beta Ryder who came to discuss something with me."
I fell silent when he finally explained himself. Still, I stared at him with an accusing gaze, refusing to back down.
"I gave you and our son a promise, Giselle. An Alpha can't break his words, how much more a promise that he made to his own son?" Killian questioned me, robbing me of speech. My chest heaved as I stared at him without any trust in him.
Killian sighed when I still didn't drop my accusing gaze. "I know you wouldn't trust me. I've done so many wrong things in the past, it's expected of you to suspect me," Killian spoke guiltily. His words slowly dissipated my anger.
"I've already decided that you and
Ryker would be coming with me at the ceremony. If you don't trust me, you can watch me yourself. With you and my son by my side, I will always be reminded of my promise," Killian spoke firmly to assure my suspicions.
I let out a deep breath after I have finally calmed down. "Fine," I answered in surrender. "Ryker and would come with you. You should be wary of yourself. Don't do something
that would make me lost my trust in
you."
"I know," Killian answered assuringly. "Don't worry, I will try my best to distance myself from Astrid."
"Just make sure that you'll do that. If I saw you act otherwise, I will take your son away and I will make sure that you will never see him again," I spoke threateningly.
