Deasy was getting ready to leave. While waiting for Veronica to pick her up, she decided to check her phone. She didn’t want to miss any calls or messages from Lucas.
Sure enough, when she checked, she found a short message that made her smile.
Lucas: Darling, did you know? Physics is hard to forget. But you? It’s hard not to miss you. I miss you so much.
Deasy couldn’t help but laugh. She wanted to call him, but since she was still in the lobby of the Forty-nine building, she decided to reply to his message instead.
Deasy: If you miss me, come home quickly. So I can hug you right away. Or maybe you don’t really like being with me all the time?
It didn’t take long for Deasy to wait for Lucas’s response. A few seconds later, he replied from the other side.
Lucas: I do like Harry Potter. But I like “Harry-harry” with you even more, darling.
Deasy: That’s so cheesy.
Lucas: I swear, I’m serious. Besides, why would I insist on living with you if I didn’t like it?
Deasy: Alright, I believe you.
Lucas: So, where are you now? Have you gone home? I’ll call you now, okay?
Deasy widened her eyes. She quickly replied before Lucas could call her. It could be dangerous if he contacted her while she was still at the office, especially with so many people around. She was afraid of accidentally saying something that others might hear. Better to be cautious.
Deasy: No! I’m still in the office lobby. Call me when you get to the apartment.
Lucas: Okay, if that’s the case. By the way, are you going straight home or making a detour?
Deasy: I’m not sure yet. It depends on Veronica. I was originally planning to go to the doctor for a check-up. But after thinking about it, I thought it might be better to wait for you to come home.
Lucas: Alright, I’ll wait for you. So I can see how our baby is developing.
Deasy: Yes, my love. Done. Well, Veronica is here to pick me up. We’ll continue later tonight.
Deasy quickly approached Veronica’s car as her friend stopped it right in front of the lobby entrance. She got in and followed wherever Veronica took her.
“Do you want to grab something to eat?”
“No, I’m good. I’ve already eaten.”
“Alright, in that case, just go straight home. So, are you not going to the gynecologist’s appointment with me? Since I’m also free right now. The kids are all with Darwin at their grandmother’s house.”
Deasy shook her head. Since she had already promised Lucas, she declined Veronica’s invitation to accompany her to the gynecologist.
“I’ll just go with Lucas. Besides, he’ll be back tomorrow.”
Veronica chuckled. Not because she found it funny, but because she was happy to see how much Deasy had changed. The woman who used to be irritable and prone to nagging was nowhere to be seen. Maybe her heart had found its anchor.
Wait a minute, was it too much to call Lucas the anchor of Deasy’s heart? Evidence suggested that he had shaken things up and caused a significant change in Deasy. And as long as it was positive, Veronica was all for it.
“Aww… going with your future husband, I see.”
“What’s with the teasing, Ve?”
Deasy’s face turned beet red. She felt embarrassed to be teased like this. It was as if she had just fallen in love like a giddy teenager. Seriously, this was so cheesy!
“Oh, come on, Des. No need to be all shy about it. I totally get it if you’re starting to have feelings for Lucas now. It’s just human nature. Plus, he’s such a sweet guy, and most importantly, he’s kind and polite.”
Deasy turned her head and sighed as if she was about to say something slightly snarky.
“How much is Lucas paying you to say all these nice things about him? I swear, you seem to really like praising him. From the beginning, I noticed that you were more on his side than mine.”
“It’s not about payment or taking sides. It’s just about choosing the side that’s sane.”
Deasy immediately raised an eyebrow. Did Veronica just imply that she wasn’t sane? Seriously, was she crazy or something?
“What do you mean? Am I not worth defending?”
“It’s just that from the beginning, you weren’t exactly clear about things. You had plans to terminate the pregnancy and all that.”
“But that’s not the case anymore, Ve.”
“Well, that’s because you were enlightened by Lucas Orion’s sermon, right? I’m so lucky that Lucas finally managed to tame you. I can’t believe you would even consider not marrying him.”
Deasy pouted. Veronica always spoke her mind as if there were no redeeming qualities in her.
“But, Des, if we’re going to talk about marriage, don’t you already have a plan to introduce Lucas to your mom? Right now, your mom probably doesn’t even know you’re pregnant, does she?”
Deasy nodded. Since she had been living independently and rarely saw her mother, it was easy for her to hide her pregnancy.
Deasy was well aware that her mother would be shocked if she found out she was pregnant without being married.
“I wonder how I should tell her. She’ll definitely be shocked if she finds out I’m pregnant out of wedlock.”
“Ya know, you’re really naughty. Acting all flirty like that. But, well, it’s too late for that now. Just take it slow when letting her know. Explain the timeline briefly. I’m sure your mom will understand and give her blessing for you to marry Lucas. After all, Lucas is a good guy, and he’s willing to take responsibility. Even though the real culprit here is actually you.”Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Just keep blaming Deasy, there really isn’t any good side to her in Veronica’s eyes.
“So, according to you, should I bring Lucas along too? Or should I talk to Mom first and then invite Lucas to the next meeting?”
While driving, Veronica shrugged her shoulders.
“It’s up to you, really. In my opinion, just bring him along. So you don’t have to introduce him separately. Just explain it slowly. I’m sure your mom will understand.”
Deasy nodded in understanding. Veronica’s advice seemed like something she should act on soon. She didn’t want her mom to hear this unpleasant news from someone else.
“Also, Des…” Veronica continued, never-ending in her talking. “Does Lucas have any intention of meeting your parents? Oh, wait. Your parents are still around, right?”
Deasy nodded. When she was still an employee at Quantum Tech and under its supervision, Lucas had taken leave a few times to take care of his sick or hospitalized parents. She had never heard news that one of them had passed away. So it could be concluded that Lucas’ parents were still alive.
“As far as I know, they’re still around.”
“And?”
“But, it doesn’t seem like he’s planning to meet them anytime soon. Besides, we’ve only been close for four days, Ve. Maybe he’ll invite me to meet them as soon as possible. But not right now.”
“That’s possible,” Veronica agreed with a nod. “But the most important thing is that he’s willing to take responsibility and marry you. That’s more than enough. Even if Lucas hasn’t invited you to meet his parents yet, you can be the one to invite him to meet your mom first.”
“Yes, I’ll schedule that soon.”
After a long chat, Veronica’s car finally arrived at the Park Avenue apartment lobby. Before actually leaving, as usual, Veronica gave Deasy many instructions to follow when she arrived at her unit.
“Take a shower and rest immediately. If you need anything later, just call me, Des. Remember, if you can’t reach me, try calling Sean too. Let’s not repeat what happened the other day.”
Deasy unbuckled her seatbelt. She nodded as she prepared to get out of the car.
“Okay, you’re being a worrywart. Don’t keep repeating it every day. I’m really tired of hearing it.”
“Let me be worried for your safety. Well, I’m heading home now. I’ll pick you up again tomorrow morning.”
Deasy waved as Veronica left her apartment. As she stepped inside, Deasy reached for her phone from her bag. She checked once again if Lucas had contacted her as he usually did.
But when she checked, there was no missed call or text message from Lucas. Ignoring it, Deasy slowly walked toward the elevator.
