Chapter 33 You Must Be Tough
Chapter 33 You Must Be Tough
Adelaide collapsed on the edge of the bed all of a sudden.
How did things get to this point? She had never thought of hurting anyone, but why were they never
satisfied?
First it was Clarissa, then it was Antonio, and finally it was Channing.
While she was lying on the bed fully awake, here came Hanna’s call. Adelaide took a deep breath,
adjusted her mind, and slid to answer.
"Hey! Adelaide, it's Hanna!"
The sweet female voice was like a pleasant oriole, chasing away Adelaide's morning discomfort.
She raised a fond smile and nodded habitually even without actually seeing Hanna in person, then
asked well-temperedly,
"I know, what's up?”.
Hanna hesitated for a moment and was unsure about how to tell her,
"Adelaide, your husband isn't home today right? Why don't I pick you up at your house, so we can go
out for a walk?"
Adelaide pondered. She indeed had not hanged out with her friend for a long time. Moreover, staying at
home was really boring. The most annoying thing was Clarissa and Antonio’s quarrels from time to time
exhausted her. Neither silence nor a tolerance could let these two stop “attacking” her.
On the contrary, they seemed to be more than happy to do so.
If things continued like this, she assumed that she might suffer from a serious depression and need to
see a psychotherapist in the end.
She was way too depressed!
However, the pain in her heart had nowhere to get released.
Finally, she yelled at Antonio this morning, because she was almost pushed to the limit. She would
suffocate herself if she did not break out.
Adelaide nodded again,
"Sure, we haven't seen each other for a long time. You used to treat me for dinner, so let me be the
host today."
At her response, Hanna giggled with amusement,
"Well, I'm going to eat you alive then, wait for me at home and I'll come get you."
"Good."
The phone hanged up on the other side.
Adelaide regained her mood and went to the bathroom to wash herself up. Her eyes were red because
of Antonio. After putting a towel with cold water on both eyes for a while, the redness and swelling
gradually subsided. She patted her face and put a big smile on her face in the mirror.
Her white T-shirts had a “lucky girl" printed on it.
The jeans bought a few months ago didn’t fit at all. She did not dare to take a deep breath to force the
pants on, and frustratedly put the jean back into the wardrobe and rummaged to dig out a light blue
dress.
Considering the baby in her tummy, she moved the elastic of the skirt all the way up to her ribs so it
woud not strangle the baby.
When she went downstairs, Damla was already back and cooking in the kitchen. Seeing her so
formally dressed, she busily wiped her hands on the apron and ran out to ask.
"Young lady, I'm cooking dinner, are you going out?"
She usually wore a faded nightgown at home, and one can hardly imagine she was wife to a wealthy
man.
In comparison, her outfit was much more formal today. With her hair tied up in a high ponytail and her
bangs falling loose on her forehead, she looked very girlish.
Besides, even though she was pregnant, her belly was showing her pregnancy, so probably no one
would suspect it even if they were told that she was a teenager.
"Yes. I am going out."
She faintly replied while walking to the entrance and was about to change her sneakers. At the same
time, she heard Damla cursing at her when turning around, so she returned menacingly and blocked in
front of Damla's face,
"You're just a babysitter hired by Antonio. We respect you considering how long you have been working
in the family, so don't mess up, or you will be dismissed at any time!"
Damla was stunned. Having never seen such a serious Adelaide, she trembled out of fear and lowered
her head, and walked back to the kitchen, just like how her master did in the morning. This time, she
dared not to whisper insults to Adelaide.
They were all spoiled by her good temper! Adelaide thought angrily. When she was acting polite and
nice, everyone treated her like a soft persimmon that could be pinched a little bit. They were forcing her
to put on airs.
The two friends seemed to have heart connection or something. The red BMW pulled up in front of her
right after she came out for just two minutes. Adelaide smiled, got in the car and drove away.
After a short time, the car stopped in front of a small restaurant near a school. Seeing the familiar street
after getting off the car, Adelaide got stunned.
This was their Alma Mater. Now it was pretty empty on the weekends. Adelaide looked back, and
Hanna raised her eyebrows and asked,
"Do you remember?"
She nodded.
"This place holds my youth, how could I forget…"
Hanna also nodded in agreement,
"It's not just you. It’s the same for me!"
Yes, this was where they spent their youth. Wearing the same uniform every day in that blue-white tops
and dark blue pants, no matter how ugly it looked, it was still their purest memory.
They partnered up at the beef noodle restaurant they visited the most and simultaneously ordered two
bowls of beef noodles.
Hanna mulled it over for a while, and said,
"Adelaide, do you believe me?"
She was puzzeled by her question, but till nodded.
"Of course, silly, we've been best friends for over ten years, who else should I believe other than you?"
"My brother got a girlfriend, a nurse at the city hospital."
She wanted to make the beginning of the story’s clear first, since it was kind of influencial.
Adelaide was even more puzzled,
"Well?
What does that have to do with me trusting you?”
Hanna hesitated for a long time. Although it was not her who did the bad thing, she still felt uneasy
about exposing others.
"This is what happened. The day before yesterday, my sister-in-law came to visit and told me a secret
of their hospital, saying that if my brother also became a doctor, he would be able to buy several suites
in the city, and wouldn't have to rely on my parents.
My brother was upset hearing that, so she told me how their appraisal department in the hospital
charged a lot of money privately."
"Do you want to expose the man who corrupted the medical profession?"
Adelaide sucked in a mouthful of noodles, wiped the oil from her mouth, and asked quietly.
She shook her head,
"It’s not this matter. She talked about a woman who made a fake appraisal. Her husband had a
mistress and wanted to divorce her, so she lied about being pregnant in order to keep her husband, but
then the man's lawyer showed her evidence of her own infidelity and asked her to prove that the child This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
was actually her husband’s, otherwise she had to sign the divorce papers. Out of no choices, she had
to find someone to get her a fake appraisal."
Thinking of how she was also a woman scourged as a mistress, Adelaide could not help sympathizing
with her,
"Ah, that's too pitiful, if they found out, her husband will definitely divorce her, and the person whoever
got her a fake appraisal certficate might face a lawsuit too."
Hanna nodded approvingly, then said with discontents,
"Bah, bah, you've confused me, the point is not whether that woman is pitiful or not, but that my sister-
in-law said that this woman's name is Clarissa!"
The noodles Adelaide had just put in her mouth got swallowed just like a slippery loach immediately,
almost getting stuck in her throat.
She coughed a few times, "No way, the situation doesn't look like Ke Xin’s either. What if they just have
the same name."
"I didn't believe it at first, but my sister-in-law said that this woman was smart and that her husband's
last name was the same as that of Antonio, so she paid much more attention to it."
