Chapter 912
Brad pressed the fruit knife harder against Lucas' neck, just enough to draw a thin line of blood. The crimson bead trickled down, staining the edge of the knife.
Lucas winced, his face twisting in pain. "Quinn's telling the truth, Mr. Hamilton! We did plan to kidnap Nadine, but we never went through with it! Damn it, that hurts!" he hissed.
As Brad deliberated whether to believe Lucas' words, Cameron rushed in, holding his phone. "This is urgent, Mr. Hamilton! It's about Mrs. Hamilton!"
Brad immediately dropped the fruit knife, snatched the phone from Cameron's hand, and brought it to his ear. "Brad Hamilton speaking. I'm warning you-if Nadine so much as loses a single strand of hair, I will have your entire family pay for it!" His voice was cold and menacing.
The person on the other end of the line chuckled. It was impossible to tell if it was a man or woman, as they used a voice changer.
"Relax, Brad. I won't harm Nadine. But I'm going to have my fun with her for a few days before I let her go! Now, here's what I need from you: prepare a boat and 50 million dollars in cash. You'll hear from me again in three days."
Before Brad could process their words, the call abruptly ended. Brad's brows drew together as he stared at his phone. He then turned to the police officers working to trace the signal. "Did you get their location?"
The tech specialist shook his head. "They're smart. They knew it would take us at least half a minute to trace their location, so they kept the call just under that."
After being hung up on, Brad's cold gaze fell back on Lucas, who was still perched on the hospital bed. "It really wasn't you?"noveldrama
Lucas hurriedly waved his hand. "I swear to God that it wasn't me! I'll take an oath if I have to!"
Meanwhile, Adam's condition had improved at Harborview Hospital. Not only could he sit up and hold conversations for half an hour at a time, but his appetite had also returned. He was eating more than usual.
Whether it was a change in
medication or something else, he seemed more spirited, and there was a spark of life in his once-duft eyes. After a thorough discussion with the hospital management, Seraphina decided to move Adam out of the ICU and into a standard ward.
Once there, Adam complained about having too many bodyguards around, finding them noisy and intrusive. He decided to reduce the number of guards, leaving only Travis and two bodyguards to watch over him.
In good spirits, Adam leaned against the headboard and asked Travis, "Why hasn't Nad visited me in the past two days?"
When he was in the ICU, Nadine had come to see him every day. Her daily visits had become a source of comfort for him, brightening his mood every time.
Not daring to tell him the truth, Travis told a benign lie per Brad's instructions: "Mr. Brad said Nad was sent out of town for training and won't be back for at least five days. She left in such a hurry that she didn't have time to tell you herself. She said she'll call you as soon as she's free."
In truth, Travis was just as anxious. Nadine had been missing for two days, and despite Brad's exhaustive search, she was nowhere to be found. The situation was dire, but he couldn't tell Adam the truth.
After hearing that, Adam nodded, half-convinced. "Alright, I'll wait for her to call me. Oh, by the way, I've been craving that hot chocolate Nad recommended. Can you grab me a cup?"
Travis agreed and left the room to buy the hot chocolate. Less than a minute after he left, an uninvited guest entered the ward. The person smile at Adam, who was leaning against the headboard, eyes full of disdain.
"I bet you didn't see this coming, did you, Adam?"
What do you think?
