Chapter119 The Engagement Was Set In Stone
The Engagement Was Set In Stone
After three days of heavy rain, the temperature dropped a lot. It was no longer hot and humid.
Richard sat in his office after the meeting. He picked up a cup of tea and took a sip.
"I have sent people to check on the situation of the branches that did not perform as well this quarter
compared to last quarter..."
Ted was clearly and logically reporting the details from the meeting to his boss.
"Okay. Focus on acquiring Red Star. When will the financial analyst come to work?" Richard put down
his cup and ordered.
"At the end of this month." Ted replied.
"Press her a bit further. Have her take over the Red Star acquisition plan before the 20th."
"Sure."
"Mr. Zellweger, I'll leave if there isn't anything else. I'll order lunch for you later." Ted closed the
document in his hand and said respectfully.
Richard nodded. Suddenly, he asked, "Have you investigated that thing recently?"
"Since you said it's related to the Zellweger family, we have no leads yet. It's quite challenging."
Hearing this, Richard frowned slightly. He then let Ted leave.
Ted breathed a sigh of relief after closing the office door. He loosened his tie and walked towards the
elevator.
The boss' orders were getting trickier to handle. Now, Richard asked him to investigate his own family.
Unless he didn't want his job anymore, he didn't dare to investigate the Zellweger family.
If Richard's mother found out, he would not be able to stay in this city any longer.
After Ted left, Richard absent-mindedly looked at the document on his desk. Suddenly, his phone
vibrated: "Buzz..."
He stared at the caller ID for a few seconds before pressing the answer button.
"Hi, mother."
It was Richard's mother. She rarely called her son unless it was something important. As far as she
was concerned, her son only needed to do two things, to be the boss of the family Group and the ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
young master of their family.
Their conversation sounded more like a negotiation. There was no warmth in her tone at all.
"Take Adriana home for supper tonight."
"I can't. I'll have dinner with Mr. Stewart from the Trendle Group."
"Cancel it." Mrs. Zellweger's tone was irrecusable. "Trendle Group isn't an important partner. Your
grandmother is celebrating her birthday in a few days. You should come back and discuss what to do."
There were only two people around the world who she prioritised above company. One was herself,
and the other was Cicely Scott, Richard's grandmother.
Cicely was over 80 years old. She permanently lived in the countryside and led a secluded life.
Richard grew up with his grandmother when he was a little boy. He only left her when he needed to go
to school in city. He wasn't very close to his parents.
"Alright, I'll go back." At the mention of Cicely's birthday, Richard's tone relaxed.
"Come back earlier then."
"I see."
After hanging up, on the Yoreast Hills Garden lawn, Mrs. Zellweger picked up a cup of tea on the table,
and slowly took a sip.
"He said that he'll be back tonight."
The one sitting next to her was Adriana. These days, she couldn't came to see Mrs. Zellweger every
day. It took at least three hours to drive to Yoreast Hills Garden, which wasn't easy.
Mrs. Zellweger finally decided to help her.
"Thank you, Madam. If you hadn't helped me, I really wouldn't have known when Richard would be
willing to see me.." Adriana let out a sigh of relief and said.
"The engagement is set in stone, not to mention that the invitations have been printed. I have told you
long ago that as long as you are well-behaved, there will be no changes."
There was a hint of sarcasm in her words.
Although she didn't attend Victoria's birthday banquet, she was well aware of what had happened.
Adriana hurriedly explained, "Madam, I really didn't do anything. Someone tried to frame me. That day,
Ethan Louise came to talk to me. I couldn't ignore him because he was a member of the Louise. Who
would have thought that his sister would embarrass me in public?"
"You're the future daughter-in-law of out family. Katherine is actually making an embarrassment to the
whole Zellweger family. Don't you understand what you have done wrong?"
Mrs. Zellweger had never been straightforward, so it was difficult for Adriana to understand what she
was thinking. When Mrs. Zellweger said this, it was clear that she was blaming Adriana.
"Madam, I know I was wrong. I wouldn't do it next time."
After taking a sip of tea, Richard's mother looked at the lake in her garden at a distance. "However, I've
never expected her to be Mr. Louise's wife."
The topic changed so fast that Adriana couldn't react for a moment. After a few seconds, she
immediately understood that she was talking about Pearl.
To this, she was also quite surprised.
Seven years ago, Pearl left Kityall City in dejection. She lost her family and love. Life was undoubtedly
hard for a single mother.
But who would have thought that under such circumstances, she would meet someone like Ethan?
Pearl had her luck cut out for her.
"Enough, it's still early now. You should prepare for how you're planning to mend your relationship with
Richard. I can talk you up, but Richard may not listen to me. After all, marriage is between both of
you and I can't control it." Mrs. Zellweger was about to get into the house.
"Okay, have a good rest, Madam." Adriana hurriedly stood up and watched Mrs. Zellweger walk into
the house.
After Mrs. Zellweger left, Adriana turned around and looked at the lake in the distance. The lake was
sparkling and the mountains were beautiful.
In life, you win some, you lose some.
