Chapter 41: Does He Have Another Woman?
Sebastian sighed, running a hand through his thick black hair. The woman always made him talk too much, a lot more than he used to.
“Not necessarily living in fear, but it’s good to take precautions like this.”
“B-But… I don’t want to feel like I’m being watched all the time,” Kourtney protested, her voice quavering as she held the phone tightly to her ears.
“That’s why I told my people to make it as unobtrusive as possible. They’d only observe you from the sidelines and step in only when you’re in need of help or in danger,” Sebastian assured her, his voice softening to dimensions he never even knew existed.
His brow furrowed with concern as he understood Kourtney’s fears.
There was also the fact that he wanted his people to report every important detail of her everyday life to him, hence why he asked them to follow and guide her. But he did not want her to find out about that part, or the woman would label him a psychopath.
He wanted to protect her and keep an eye on her as well, but he didn’t want her to feel suffocated or invaded.
Kourtney let out a deep sigh. She felt a mix of emotions swirling inside her.
“So much so for marrying a powerful billionaire!”
“Ahhh….” Sebastian chuckled darkly. “You don’t have to worry, Dear Wife. I assure you, the perks of being my Mrs Woods would be more than the dangers involved.”
Rolling her eyes, Kourtney could not help but be reminded about earlier at the shopping mall. The man was annoying, yes, but Lilian was right. There was no doubt he would treat her well, so much better than Brandon ever did. So, why not enjoy the perks of being married to a billionaire?
She smiled and then looked at the clock on the wall.
“Mr Woods, thank you so much for today. But I have to go now and start preparing myself. I’m hosting a general meeting to tell my family tonight. Happy now?”
Sebastian’s lips twisted into a smile, and his magnetic blue eyes gleamed with a mischievous light.
“Ahh… Good. You finally acknowledged you are mine, and there’s no going back. Took you long enough!”
Kourtney’s cheeks flushed, but then she sneered. She’s never seen a more arrogant person in her life.
“Oh please, Mr Woods. Don’t flatter yourself too much,” she retorted, trying to hide the blush that crept up her cheeks.
Sebastian’s laughter filled the airwaves, causing Kourtney’s heart to flutter. He seemed to be in such a good mood today.
‘Why is that?’ she wondered. From NôvelDrama.Org.
“Oh, but Mrs Woods, you know I can’t help myself. You’re just too irresistible,” Sebastian continued to flirt shamelessly. Jamie who was standing nearby gave him an incredulous look.
How Sebastian could transform from a cold, ruthless, and unfeeling person into a funny, flirty, and lovable husband in a matter of days still felt like a dream to him. And to see him laughing and smiling so happily felt like something out of this world. Unbelievable!
“Is that so? Well, I hope you’re ready for disappointment because I’m not easily impressed at all,” Kourtney shrugged.
“Ahhh.. YES!… I love a challenge, my dear.”
Kourtney felt a warmth spread through her chest at his words. She couldn’t help but smile at his persistence. Despite his annoying tendencies, there was something undeniably charming about Sebastian.
Maybe, just maybe, she could learn to tolerate him.
Maybe, just maybe, there was more to Sebastian Woods than meets the eye.
She was about to say something to counter his words, however…..
“Bastian, they’re about to start,” Kourtney suddenly heard a sexy and coquettish female voice cut across the line.
She couldn’t understand why her heart started hurting immediately, and she held her chest as if to ease the discomfort.
Who was that woman on the other end of the line? Why did she just call Sebastian “Bastian” in such an intimate way? These questions swirled in Kourtney’s mind, fueling her confusion.
“Hmmm. Just make sure to call me to tell me how the meeting goes later,” Sebastian said quickly before hanging up. His earlier jovial tone turned cold and icy all of a sudden.
Doubt filled Kourtney’s mind, and her chest tightened even more.
‘Does he have another woman?’
She didn’t want to believe it, but hearing another woman’s voice calling him so intimately made her question everything. Even though they barely knew each other and had married out of the blue, she still felt weird and couldn’t deny the strange sensations of jealousy in her heart.
The thought of another woman being close to him, and sharing intimate moments, made Kourtney feel so insecure and vulnerable.
She flopped down into her bed and stared at the ceiling for a long, long time……..
Meanwhile, Sebastian was furious after he ended the call. His eyes darkened coldly. “What was that about? How dare you interrupt me on call?”
“Bastian…I… I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt you. Just that I was informed they wanted you to go to start the interview. I… It wasn’t intentional,” the coquettish female voice belonged to none other than Rachael Lind.
As a key employee of Woods Corporation, Rachael joined Sebastian and other team members of the company for the Forbes interview. It was expected that Sebastian would bring some top employees to showcase the success of the company. Rachael was highly regarded by everyone, including Sebastian and members of the Woods family for her skills and dedication to her job, so she had to tag along.
Despite the incident that had landed Sebastian in a coma, he had chosen not to fire her, recognizing her value to the company and also because of her Doctor Dad, who saved his life after his fatal car accident years ago.
It was good that she maintained a reasonable distance this time and did not trigger his allergy, but the woman kept doing things that made him lose his temper.
“It isn’t your job to inform me if they’re about to start or not. I have my assistants.”
Jamie, Sebastian’s senior assistant, looked at Rachael with disdainful eyes. He had never liked her, considering her to be cunning and manipulative, always trying to portray herself as Sebastian’s better half. Many of the company workers even believed they were secretly dating, which only fueled Jamie’s dislike for Rachael. He saw her interruption as a deliberate act to cause trouble.
“I know. I’m sorry,” Rachael replied, almost in a whisper as she tried to look pitiful and pure.
Sebastian sneered. “Miss Lind, I’m warning you, never interrupt me again, especially when I’m talking to my wife.”
Rachael bit her lips. Her fears and suspicions had been confirmed. Sebastian was really on a call with the so-called mystery wife. She felt a pang of pain and jealousy curse through her veins.
She had never once seen Sebastian laugh or smile like he did when he was talking on the phone just now. Rachael had been observing him from afar and wondered who he might be talking to.
Was it his Grandma, Grandpa, friend, or any of his relatives? She had pondered. But then, she remembered he wasn’t even close to any of his family.
‘So it turned out it was his wife.’
For days, she kept trying to convince herself that Sebastian’s sudden marriage was all for show and probably contractual, if indeed it was true.
But now that she’d witnessed the interaction between him and the mystery wife. Even if it was just through a phone conversation, it was clear to her that there was something more than just a business arrangement between them. It made her feel sick and pale – just thinking about it. And the way he dismissed her ever so ruthlessly as if she was nothing hurt her really bad.
She had developed feelings for Sebastian over time, and now it seemed like he was already taken. But still, she believed that as long as she still worked closely with him at Woods Corps, then there was hope for her.
She wasn’t ready to give up her dream of becoming Sebastian’s love interest just yet. She longed to be his wife, true love, and end game for life, not some random girl who remained unknown to anyone.
