My Most Precious Human

In the heat of the fight

In the heat of the fight

Our group temporarily split into two. The twenty of us went straight from the casino's area to Alpha

Marcus's mansion while the rest of us took care of the casino's workers. I hardly noticed Jetta was with

us. I was so committed to the fight that, for me, she became yet another fighter on our team. I wouldn't

allow her to become my distraction, no matter how hard she tried. Only when she appeared right

beside me, I could see her absolutely focused on the goal, her body overfilled with adrenaline like

mine. Well, I was relieved to see she didn't want to pick up a fight with me in such an absurd and

extreme situation.

Jetta and I walked almost shoulder to shoulder, heading to the wire fence guarding the Alpha's

mansion. While we were walking, I scanned her body. She had a few bruises already surfacing on her

right shoulder, one around her collarbone, and one on her cheek. Her lip was torn and slightly bleeding,

and yet her face was unmoved as if she didn't feel any pain at all.

"Are you all right?" I asked quietly, gently prodding her elbow.

"What do you care?" she spat, sending me a brief, dark glare.

"I'm asking out of concern if you are still able to fight," I said.

"Don't you dare act like you are already our Luna," she growled at me.

"Hey!" I jerked her hand, halting her. "Maybe it's my damn human nature, or maybe I don't just want to

pick up your dead body from the ground, and that is the only reason why I asked!" I shot her a cold

glower.

She stepped back, and I could see that my tone had made her baffled. "I… I'm all right," she muttered.

"Good. Hope you regenerate fast," I said, taking a few fast steps to match Draven's pace.

Draven was in constant contact with other teams through his phone's earpiece. When he finished

another call, I saw a smirk of satisfaction painted on his face. I figured that the other groups must have

succeeded in their part of the plan as well. Once Draven saw me walking next to him, he grabbed my

hand and pulled me closer.

"They didn't hurt you, did they?" he asked while examining me.

"No," I smirked, "They couldn't even touch me."

"That's my girl," he said, stroking my hair. "Just be careful now. Fighting against Alpha Marcus's best

warriors won't be that easy. They were trained to quickly transform into their wolf form, and they will

almost certainly turn. Those guards in the casino didn't do it only because they were vulnerable during

the transformation."

"I know," I nodded, mentally preparing for a much fiercer fight.

We were hiding in the thick bushes a few meters outside the Alpha's mansion's fence. It was nearly

dawn, and a gloomy, cloudy day was about to begin. The weather worked to our advantage, making it

harder to spot us through the scant light and low-hanging morning fog. Still, we couldn't get too close

until Martin, our tech specialist, disabled every thermal imaging camera in the area.

Martin was small and fast. He was also amazingly agile. I sat in the thick bushes and observed his

acrobatic movements while he made his way to the circuits of the surveillance control devices. He

jumped through the fence like it was nothing to him, and then he passed between the security guards

without being noticed. He moved like a shadow and soon disappeared behind the corner of the

mansion. A little less than a minute later, he gave Draven a signal that the cameras were off, and we

could proceed.

With a green light from Martin, the wolves started to jump through the fence one by one. It was easier

for them. I had never tested my abilities that way, and I would much rather climb that fence than test

how high I could jump. I climbed fast, did a flip over the barbed wire on the top, and jumped down on

my feet. I did it just a second longer than everyone else but still got to see Jetta's mocking chuckle as

she came down faster than me. God… she really did a great job of pissing me off.

With Draven's quick commands, we were all spread in twos, moving towards the main building. I was

paired up with Ian, which I was grateful for since, as I had seen at the casino, his fighting skills were

supreme.

We ran to one of the back doors, swiftly taking care of the guards we had encountered. Our intelligence

squad reported that there would be a meeting at Alpha Marcus's audience hall. It was supposed to start

at eight sharp. It was a little after seven, but we knew that most of the warriors were already waiting

inside the mansion. We had to stay focused and not let ourselves get caught before we got to the

strategic spots Alpha assigned for us.

We were moving up to the top floor, climbing the stairs. I was going first, and Ian was right behind me.

My heart was pounding, my senses sharper than ever, and my muscles flexing in constant alert to fight

or dodge. I realized yet another small evolution within me: I could smell the enemy. I was unable to

explain how, but I could smell the hostility and strong emotions. This sense became even sharper than

my hearing. I was able to feel whether or not the enemy was getting closer, before even hearing his

footsteps.

We still had three floors to climb, and luckily for us, all of the guards were elsewhere. Our job was to

cut off the communication room, making those in the mansion unable to call for backup.

"We are almost there," said Ian, briefly looking at the mansion's plan on his smartwatch. "After getting

on the top floor, we need to find the third door on the right."

There were only three guards on the top floor. I served one of them a fast roundhouse kick, knocking

him down, and then finishing him with a quick punch in the jaw. Ian knocked one of them out with one

direct low chin blow while I helped him with the third guard before he could inform someone that we

were there.

We ran to the communication room and Ian kicked the door open, but we didn't expect those inside to

have their guns loaded and ready to fire. The shots came quickly, and we jumped back, hiding on both

sides of the door.

"Fuck! These are aconite bullets!" Ian cursed, pulling his gun out.

I hesitated. I had never killed anyone in my life, and I wasn't planning to use that gun I had been given.

The shots kept coming from inside, and it was obvious that communications staff had already alarmed

the entire mansion. It was a matter of a minute before that floor became crowded with other guards,

prepared to turn to their wolf form if they hadn't already…

"Lilith!" Ian called out, noticing how freaked out I was with a gun in my hand, "You don't have to shoot to

kill. Just aim for the legs, arms, and shoulders."

I nodded and took a deep breath. I closed my eyes. I could hear there were two shooters. I had to wait

until at least one of them was reloading his gun.

"Now!" I roared, rolled down to the center of the kicked-out door, and then fired at the shooters' legs.

The bullets reached them right where I wanted. Both of them fell to the floor, giving an extra second for

Ian to jump into the room and disarm them. Knocking off the rest of the tech team was easy; they

weren't warriors. What was left to do was to destroy each part of the pack's communication system.

Apparently, Ian and I were quite brilliant at blowing things off. It was a good way to use those bullets. It

took us a few seconds to smash and burn every device in the room with wicked grins on our faces. We

were like children that were allowed to break someone else's toys without any consequences. Well, at

least we had our moment of fun in that fight… a very brief moment.

"They are coming." The sound of many footsteps running up the stairs alarmed me instantly.

Ian nodded and sent a signal to Alpha.

"Get out of there now! You need to get to the audience hall on the second floor, so move it!" I could

hear Draven's thundering command through Ian's earphone.

I thought that poor Ian's ear would explode, but apparently, he was used to Alpha's volume. He

carefully glanced outside the room; there was no one there yet, but I could hear the guards getting

closer. I swallowed hard as I heard the footsteps turn into the sound of running paws.

"Ian…" I muttered, "They turned into wolves. There are six of them."

"Fuck," Ian cursed under his breath as he started taking off his shirt and pants. "Run to the right side of

the corridor. There is a second staircase, and you will be able to go down to the audience hall," he said.

"What about you?" I asked nervously, unwilling to leave him alone. All content is © N0velDrama.Org.

"I know you are strong, Lilith, but we cannot fight six against one… and a half," he smirked. "My wolf is

fast. I can lead them away from you and then come down from the other side."

I was reluctant to accept his plan, but we had no chance to debate it. A second later, one of the wolves

jumped into the room. Ian shifted into his wolf form, and I jumped, did a front flip, and kicked our

opponent to make way for us to escape the room.

All the other five wolves were already waiting for us in the corridor. Ian growled, exposing his sharp

teeth, while I had to reach for the knife, regretting that we had just used all of the aconite bullets. I

immediately swore never to bitch about having a loaded gun again.

Ian charged at them, pulling out his claws. I knew he wanted me to run, but I couldn't just leave him like

that. I ran towards those vicious beasts that craved our blood. I knew that with a sharp blade in my

hand, I could have been as deadly as they were. Ian snarled at me for not following his plan, but I only

blew him a kiss and rushed at the first monster on my way.

I knew that cutting tendons in their legs was the fastest way to neutralize them. I slid between one's

legs and cut deeply into each one of its legs. The wolf howled painfully, falling to the floor, where I could

use the heavy knife handle to hit its head and knock him unconscious. At the same time, Ian did his

part by throwing the remaining wolves, who were already red from their blood, to the ground. I grinned

at him, but then we heard more wolves were coming. Ian looked at me and gestured at the stairs. I

knew what he meant; it was time for us to split.

I took the right staircase while he ran to the left side. I went down with my heart hectically pounding.

The adrenaline pumping through my veins was devouring my life energy fast. I needed a break, a

moment to stop and breathe, but I couldn't. I was jumping down the stairs across every half-floor just to

get to the second floor faster before other wolves found me. As much as I believed in my fighting skills,

I couldn't go up against many wolves myself. At that moment, I was terrified. There were too many of

those Scarlet Valley Pack wolves aiming for our blood. My chances relied on Draven and my group.

Panting heavily, I slammed the door on the second-floor open. This side of the corridor seemed empty.

I heaved a sigh of relief and ran forward. The audience hall was just around the corner. I never wanted

to be beside Draven as much as in that moment. I clenched my teeth, forcing the muscles in my legs to

work hard, to go beyond my limits. I kept speeding through the corridor until I felt someone hostile right

behind the corner where I was running to…

"What a surprise!" Derek's mocking voice filled the entire corridor.

I stopped. My hands fisted while I observed him slowly appearing in front of me. A spiteful grin pained

his face, his eyes hungry for my blood. I flinched while a frown covered my forehead, and my heart

raced driven by my boiling blood.

"I was just visiting Alpha Marcus when I found out that this traitorous Moon Hill Pack attacked

Sangreville, but I had never imagined that Alpha Draven would bring you along with him. Guess, he

doesn't like you very much, does he?" he scoffed, scanning my already exhausted body.

"Fuck off, Derek!" I roared, sending him a murderous glare.

"Now, this really is a treat!" he burst out laughing, "I couldn't kill you in the vampires' territory, but now it

is a completely different story…" He bit his lower lip, looking at me in a way that made me sick.

I smirked, feeling the fury boost my strength, "Then come on, Derek. Show me what you got."

"Oh, I'll show you, all right." His stare at me became even more disgusting. "I will make you scream,

then I'll finish you off and let you join your dead mother."
