Chapter 244
Chapter 244
"We've got to come up with a solid plan. There's no way we're letting Celena keep that smug look on her face!"
Celena and Wasyl exchanged a look, their faces dark with malice. Wasyl's mirthless chuckle cut through the tension, hinting he had something up his sleeve.
Cheryl leaned in, eager. "Wasyl, you've got a plan, don't you? Spill it!"
"Remember the Hughes family from Roselle City?" Wasyl's smirk was laced with slyness, almost as if he could already see Liam's downfall.
Cheryl went pale at the mention. "The Hughes... you mean that Hughes family?" Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
Wasyl nodded. "Liam ruined your engagement party with Patrick, and he even landed Hughes' eldest in the hospital. The Hughes have been quiet, but word is their heir's been itching for payback." Wasyl's expression soured as he spoke of Cheryl's past engagement.
She was his girl, and with their families eyeing a union, it stung to think she had once been set to marry another guy. Sure, they all played it calm with their modern ways, but deep down, Wasyl could not shake off a twinge of old-school jealousy.
Men can be so possessive, and Wasyl was no exception. He believed in double standards: he could have his fun, but heaven forbid his wife should do the same.
Cheryl could tell something was off with Wasyl. She quickly looked hurt and asked tentatively, "Does it bother you that I was once engaged to the Hughes family heir?"
Seeing his expression grow even stormier, Cheryl rushed to explain, "Please, don't be mad at me. I never wanted that arranged marriage, but I had no choice. Thank goodness Liam threw a wrench in the engagement party. That's how I found you!"
Tears streamed down her face as she spoke, her sorrowful beauty enough to melt any man's heart. Wasyl could not resist. He pulled her onto his lap, his hands playfully exploring as she wept.
"Cheryl, don't cry. You're making me feel all torn up inside."
"Enough tears, come here, let me kiss you."
They teased each other in the office without a care in the world. Cheryl stopped crying and, with a bashful smile, snuggled into Wasyl's embrace. "You're so bad, doing this at work!"
Wasyl grinned smugly. "It's true. If Liam hadn't sabotaged your engagement party with Patrick, how else would you have stumbled into my life?" He acted as if her meeting him was the luckiest twist of fate she could ever hope for.
Hidden from Wasyl's view, Cheryl's face turned ghostly pale, her eyes flashing with a hint of malice. Wasyl was nothing compared to the prestigious young master of the Hughes family in Roselle City. Had the engagement not fallen through, she would not have given Wasyl a second glance.
Noticing Wasyl's mood had lightened, Cheryl pressed eagerly, "Spill it, do you have some inside scoop?"
Wasyl nodded, a gleeful smirk spreading across his face. "Absolutely. The Hughes family's heir has been nursing a grudge against Liam since that beating. I've just heard that the second son, Trevyn, is back from Northern Biskeland. Do you have any idea what rank Trevyn Hughes has achieved?"
Cheryl looked puzzled. She remembered Patrick mentioning his brother but never got the details of his rank. With a curious frown, she inquired, "Trevyn? Yeah, I remember hearing about him. Didn't he enlist like nine years ago? Is he returning now? Last I heard, he was a captain."
