Chapter 2: Breakfast. Yaay!!
Chapter 2: Breakfast. Yaay!!
I run downstairs and head to the kitchen. Seated at the table, are my two brothers and my dad
munching contentedly . My mom is at the counter fixing what looks like a cup of coffee.
My dad must've heard me come down, because he motions for me to take a seat at the table. As I take
my seat at the table, another alarm goes off.
"Noo!", I screech and look at my watch. Great. School calls in 20 minutes. What's the point of waking
up just for food, and then end up with none at all?
I swear to God that the world or, most likely karma, is messing with me.
"Why are you always so uptight", Damion teases, "being a few minutes late won't kill." I glare at him
and resist the urge to stick my middle finger out at him.
"Emerald, honey, don't mind him. He's just teasing you", my mom says as she walks over to me. She
hands me a warm piece of toast that smells like damn heaven.
I take one bite and swallow it. "Thanks mom!"
"I'm going to get going now", I tell everyone. I tighten my bag straps on my shoulder and fix my watch
on my wrist. Although I love food very, very, very much, school always comes first. I have NEVER
EVER been late to school before. Never.
"Wait, can't you stay to drink some coffee? ", mom asks as I leave. I wish I could mom, but I can't!
"I'll get Starbucks on my way to school", I lie. Even the angels know that I won't make it to Starbucks on
my way to school but my mom buys it. "Bye mom, bye dad, bye Sean. "
I grab my car keys and hurry to the front door.
"What about me?", I hear Damion whine.
I stop to hear mom say, "That's what you get for teasing your sister. Now eat your breakfast so that you
won't be late for work", mom says as if talking to a child. I can most picture the defeated look on his
face right now!
I unlock the front door and race to my beautiful car.
I smile and get in my Porsche. My baby!
I start up the engine and start the drive to school. Because of how close my house is to the school, it
doesn't take long to drive to school. Probably 5 minutes tops. I park in my normal spot and turn off the
engine, struggling to grab everything.
'Please don't let me be late', I beg my lucky stars.
I run towards the swinging doors to enter the school as someone calls out my name.
"Emerald!", the voice calls. It sounds familiar. It sounds like my ! -
My best friend! My best friend Spencer can be seen running towards me, with exam papers in her
hand, and her curly black hair bouncing up and down as she races towards me.
"Hey", she says as she approaches me, "didn't you hear me calling you?", she asks.
"No, sorry", I apologize as we both walk to our lockers.
"Don't sweat it", she assures me while taking out her books.
"Talk about sweat", I gesture at her face. She wipes her face with her blouse. Spencer never wears
make-up. She doesn't need it. Her beautiful face furrows into a scorn as she pulls a textbook out of her
locker.
We both look at each other. "History" , we say in union.
Yup, history is the first thing we have on Mondays. Let me remind you, this is especially why I hate
mornings. Now you know.
"Do you want to skip class?", Spencer asks, a hint of amusement in her voice. I can tell she's tricking
me, because she knows I don't skip classes.
"Hell no. Not if you want to get a lifetime of detention from Miss Williams", I laugh. Spencer laughs out
too, holding her stomach.
Miss Williams was our History teacher and damn was she brutal.
"Well, let's get going to hell then", Spencer groans.
We're both headed off to class, when a high pitched voice, similar to the sound of nail running across a Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
chalkboard, cuts through the air.
"If it isn't Spencer and Emerald, the biggest losers at Clover High."
And just like that, my entire morning turns from bad to worst. Extremely worst.
