They'd swapped contact info back in France, and Selena had felt a connection with her, promising to be there if she ever needed help. Remembering Holt's comment from that morning, Selena quickly sat up and answered the phone. "Hey there?"

Alexa's voice was laced with distress, "Selena, I'm so sorry to bother you, but I'm really at my wit's end..."

Selena's face tightened with concern. She moved over to the floor-to-ceiling window, speaking gently, as if trying not to spook her. "Take your time. What's going on?"

“Yes,” Alexa replied, her tears almost audible through the phone. Her voice wavered, "Even with all the bad blood between us, I've never cheated on him He's the only one I've ever been with, past or present, but he doesn't believe me."

"He hauled me to the hospital, wanting me to end the pregnancy. Said if I did, he could forget everything and we could start fresh. But I'm not strong, and if I lose this

baby, I might not be able to have kids in the future."

"Selena, my whole family's gone. This child is the only blood tie I have left. No

matter what it takes, I have to protect him."
