Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 829

Everett furrowed his brow, his lips slightly parted as if he was about to say something. But Selena gently pressed a finger to his lips, stopping him in his tracks.

She continued softly, "Or maybe you'll just keep playing games your whole life, keeping me as your secret lover forever."

"Everett, we're not getting any younger. We've already wasted over seven years. How many more can we afford in a lifetime?"

"I'm really worn out. If you could just let me go, I'd be truly grateful."

Her words were heartfelt.noveldrama

Life wasn't just about romance; she had kids, family, and the Irwin family business to think about. If love couldn't bring her happiness, at the very least, it shouldn't weigh her down.

Caught up in love, she had lost herself, drowning in pain, despising who she'd become. It was this self-loathing that kept her depression from healing, almost like she was giving up on herself.

Since Everett had returned, they hadn't had such an open conversation. He had always resisted letting her back into his life. His heart was a fortress, seeing love as nothing but a distraction. After all, he pitied the old Everett, who had been willing to throw everything away for Selena.

He thought his past self was naive. Ambitious people are inherently self-serving, instinctively shutting out anything that might cloud their judgment. But now, he realized he had been wrong. His once emotionless heart was aching, even more than when he'd first woken up from surgery, adjusting to his new reality.

Human emotions are truly a mystery. And somehow, he was beginning to accept them. For a moment, Everett couldn't make sense of his feelings. He was frustrated, yet helpless, and finally, he leaned in and gently bit Selena's lip.

"I can't. I can't let you go," he admitted.

If he let Selena go, who would be there for him? He realized that Selena had sparked something in his heart that resembled emotion.

Selena wasn't surprised by his response. Everett had always been self-centered, doing as he pleased not easily swayed by mere words Yet, she couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment. She lost the desire to keep talking and softly said, "If you don't want anything else, I'm tired. I need to sleep."

She had taken a lot of medication, most of which had sleep-inducing effects. It was a miracle she was still awake. As she spoke, her eyelids began to droop.

Everett was quiet for a moment before he murmured, "If... if I started loving you again, would you take me back?"

Just as Selena was about to drift off, his words jolted her awake. She looked at him, wide-eyed.

"What do you mean?"

Everett kissed her eyelids softly. "I've called off the engagement with the Kesler

family. I'm single, free, and ready to be with you."

Called off the engagement. Single. Free...

She knew those words, but hearing them from him, she wondered if the medication was making her hear things. Seeing her silent, Everett grew a bit impatient and pressed on, "Selena, can I date you now?"
