MAFIA LOVE SCANDAL

Nonsense

“So, which tasks should I check first?” Kaivan asked Mike when they were in his workspace.

On his first day back, Kaivan was confronted with numerous files that needed to be reviewed. He didn’t know where to start. If he didn’t handle them promptly, the files would surely pile up.

“In my opinion, we should prioritize the Intercontinental files. Mr. Harold has been waiting since you were hospitalized. Fortunately, he was understanding and extended the deadline until you’ve fully recovered.”

Kaivan nodded. He reached for a brown folder labeled Intercontinental. Opening it, he started reading carefully. “Let me study this for a moment. Tell my secretary outside that if anyone wants to meet today, decline the request. I want to focus on finishing today’s tasks.”

Mike nodded in understanding. Just as he took a step back, the office door opened. A beautiful woman confidently walked in. She pulled a chair and sat directly in front of Kaivan.

“Miss-”

Before Mike could finish speaking, Veronica waved her right hand in the air, signaling the assistant to leave the room.

“It’s Ok, Mike,” Kaivan said. “Just leave us.”

Mike complied. He quickly exited the room. Once his assistant was gone, Kaivan’s gaze shifted to the woman who was now sitting sweetly in front of him. “What else brings you to visit me so early in the morning?”

Veronica smiled. As usual, she pulled something out of the bag she carried.

“I brought breakfast for you again.” With enthusiasm, she opened the food box she brought, revealing a plate of carbonara pasta, Kaivan’s favorite dish.

“Veronica…” Kaivan sighed. He could be seen taking a deep breath several times. “I’ve told you, there’s no need to go through all this trouble to bring me various kinds of food. I-”

“I don’t feel troubled, don’t worry,” Veronica interjected. She had a tendency to cut into conversations when she was involved.

“But honestly, I feel uncomfortable with the way you’re treating me like this.”

Veronica gave a sly smile. She didn’t care. In fact, she reached for the portable spoon inside the food box. She attempted to scoop up the pasta she brought, intending to feed it directly to Kaivan.

“Please try it. I specially cooked this pasta for you.”

Kaivan shook his head, trying to firmly but politely decline the request of the woman who had once been close to him.

“No, Veronica. I’m already full. Besides, you don’t have to do things like this.”

“But why?” Veronica retorted as if she couldn’t accept it. “I enjoy doing this for you. Just consider it as the care of a friend. Moreover, I understand how lonely you must be waiting for Anne who hasn’t come yet.”

“Who said my husband is lonely?”

From the doorway, Anne entered without knocking. She walked briskly and headed straight for the room’s owner. This immediately put a frown on Veronica’s face. She hadn’t expected to meet the woman who had successfully taken Kaivan away from her this morning.

“Why do you keep bothering other people’s husbands? Didn’t I kick you out already?” she snapped. Anne’s face clearly displayed her disapproval.

Veronica maintained her smile. She then stood up and reached for the shopper bag she had worn earlier.

“Fine, I don’t want to argue with you. Besides, who’s bothering your husband? I’m just being kind by bringing him breakfast.”

“No need!” Anna retorted. “Just so you know, this hotel has plenty of chefs, so you don’t need to worry about my husband going hungry.”

Veronica smiled wryly. She didn’t respond to Anne’s jab. Instead, she turned to look at Kaivan.

“I’d better go now. Sorry if I’ve taken up your time, Kai.” Before leaving, the blonde woman reached into her bag and pulled out something. She handed a paper resembling an invitation to Kaivan.

“This weekend, I’m hosting a birthday party. I invite you and Anne to come. I hope both of you can find some free time to attend.”

After Veronica left, Anne approached Kaivan. With a pout on her face, she prepared to voice her protest.

“So, while I’m not here, you’re spending time with Veronica?”

Kaivan smiled. He gestured for Anne to sit on his lap.

“Of course not. There’s no way I would replace you with Veronica.”

“Nonsense!” Anna scoffed. Her face was still visibly displeased, which only made Kaivan more exasperated.

However, just as he was about to land a kiss, a man entered the room without permission. He didn’t hesitate, and instead walked directly towards Kaivan’s desk.

“Oh my, Edward.” Kaivan exclaimed. “Where are your manners? You can’t just barge into my office without permission!” he reprimanded the man.

Edward smirked innocently. He didn’t care that the man in front of him was clearly annoyed.

“It’s your fault for not locking the door. Besides, if you want to be intimate, why not do it in your room? This is an office, not a place for lovebirds.”

Kaivan sighed. Richard was right. There was nothing more annoying in the world than Edward.

“What do you want in my office so early in the morning?”

“Nothing at all,” the man shook his head casually. “I just wanted to drop by, make sure you’re doing well, and it turns out you’re in better shape than I imagined.”

“Tsk…” Kaivan sighed again. “You really know how to bother me. If there’s nothing important, you should leave. I have a lot of work to do today.”

Edward laughed. Not even five minutes had passed since he sat down before he stood up and prepared to leave.

“But by the way, before I go, can I ask you something?”

Kaivan raised both eyebrows when he saw Edward’s suddenly serious expression.

“Earlier in the lobby, I think I crossed paths with your former date.”

“Veronica?” Anna guessed.© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.

“Yes, that’s right. I saw her in the lobby earlier. Her behavior seemed a bit strange.”

“How strange?” Now it was Kaivan who looked curious.

“I don’t know,” Edward fell silent for a moment. Then, he spoke again. “Or maybe it’s just my imagination. Anyway, I’ll take my leave now. I have to head to the office.”

Edward then left just like that. He didn’t care about Kaivan’s frustrated grumbling as he observed Edward’s odd behavior this morning.
