Missing
Quinn frantically dialed his number again. But all she heard was the same robotic voice, "Sorry, the person you are trying to call is unavailable. You can leave a message." She threw her phone angrily on the bed. Where the hell was he? She remembered the call she got from that lady.... Was he possibly having an affair? Henry was an ex playboy, so it was quite possible. She pulled out her phone, and dialed her mother's number. Her mother picked up at the first ring, "Sweetheart?" "Mum! Henry isn't back yet... And it is unusual for him to stay out late like this." Quinn sobbed. "Calm down dear.... Did he tell you he was going to stay out late?" Her mother asked calmly. "He didn't.... Worse still, I can't seem to get through to him." Quinn continued sobbing. "Be calm... You know what? Hold on a little, I will be there in a jiffy." Nicole hung up. Quinn fell to the floor weakly. What could have happened? Why did it seem like people close to her were disappearing recently? "Henry... Henry, please be safe." She sobbed pathetically on the floor where she was sitting. She lay in that position, till her mother barged into the living room. "Hey... What are you doing on the floor? Pull yourself up." Nicole's heart clenched in pain, when she saw her daughter weeping. She hated seeing her daughter being heartbroken... 'That jerk... How could he not be home by this time?' Nicole wondered. "He will be fine... I'm sure of that. Maybe he just went out to get a couple of drinks. He will be back soon..." Nicole patted her daughter's back in an attempt to console her. "Mother... You don't understand. Henry never stays out late, without telling me his whereabouts... And he doesn't have any friends here in Washington." Quinn cried harder. "Stop it, Quinn! Who the hell imprinted it into your mind that something must have happened to him?!" Her mother lost her temper as she yelled at her.
"Instincts." Quinn responded. "What?" Her mother looked at her in total puzzlement. "My instincts, mother. I have an ominous feeling that something must have happened to him. However, I can't place it, but I can feel it." Quinn cried. "Hush.... Your instincts may be wrong." Her mother pulled her to the bed, and they both sat on it. Nicole made her place her head on her own shoulders. They sat like that for sometime. Both of them were deep in thoughts... "They are never wrong." Quinn suddenly said. "My instincts are never wrong, mother." She said again. Nicole was silent. All of a sudden, Quinn pulled away from her embrace, and darted towards the door. "Where are you going to?!" Her mother raced after her. Quinn hurried downstairs, and grabbed the car keys which was on the table. She made her way outside. Her mother ran after her, "Stop, Quinn! Where are you going?" She panted as she got closer to her. As Quinn fumbled with the car door, her mother caught her hand from behind. "Look at me, Quinn. Where do you think you are going?!" Her mother thundered. "Where else? I'm going to look for my husband of course." Quinn shrugged as if she was saying something casual. "Look for him? Where if I may ask?" Nicole asked. "I don't know, mother. Don't stop me please." Tears ran down her cheeks as she finally opened the door to the car. However, as she was about to enter, her mother stopped her. "Mother-" "Let me. I can't let you drive with your state of mind." Nicole said sadly. She could feel her daughter's pain. After all, she had lost a daughter, and a granddaughter once... So, no one knew better than her, the feeling of losing someone. Knowing the person was missing...
Feeling as if the person was hurt... Not knowing the person's whereabouts, and not being able to do anything. The feeling was dreadful... It was painful... Quinn nodded weakly. She went over to the front passenger seat, and opened the car door, for herself. She got in, and waited for her mother to do the same. Nicole sighed, got into the car, and shut the door close. Both of them didn't even bother putting on their seatbelts. Nicole turned on the ignition, and the car kicked off. ................. "Mum.... Why are you taking me home? That isn't where I want to go." Quinn turned to look at her mother. "I can't let you go on a dangerous mission as that, Quinn. I can't lose you for the second time, I'm sorry." Nicole sighed.
