Love That Wasn't Meant to Last

Chapter82

Upon returning to the company and entering the office, I was told that Selena wanted to see me.

The moment I stepped into Selena's office, she lifted her gaze, appearing to have completely forgotten our conversation from the day before. She asked, "Hud, where have you been? Why didn't you report your leave? Don't you know that our company policy requires advance notice for time off?"

I frowned at Selena as I explained, "I have something important to attend to. Didn't I tell you yesterday that I planned to take the day off?"noveldrama

Selena was perplexed after hearing this. "Did you really mention it yesterday? I can't seem to recall."

Selena had always been forgetful, particularly when it came to my concerns, so I wasn't taken aback. She didn't give me a moment to breathe, gesturing toward the stack of documents on her desk. "Here, help me with these."

I quietly began sorting through Selena's documents, reading quickly as usual. After marking the important ones, I received a message from Zion. "There's a meeting at 1:00 pm on the fourth floor. Please remind Selena to attend."

I was puzzled about the nature of the meeting on the fourth floor, especially since Zion had to message me to remind Selena about it.

"Selena, there's a meeting scheduled on the fourth floor at 1:00 pm. When do you intend to head over?" I inquired.

Selena paused, looking annoyed. "It's frustrating to argue with those old fogies again."

I couldn't comprehend why Selena's attitude had changed until I attended the meeting with her in the afternoon. Once I met the other participants, it became clear who those "old fogies" Selena had mentioned truly were. It turned out to be a shareholders' meeting.

Shortly after the meeting commenced, a few shareholders approached Selena. "Ms. Norman, what have you been up to lately? Why did it take you so long to return to the company? Do you plan to explain?"

Selena wore a cold expression, devoid of any hint of a smile. "Didn't I mention that I just returned from a trip a few days ago? Do you want to see the photos I took?"

She turned to face the people who welcomed her with smiles, her eyes brimming with menace.

"Why don't we start the meeting?" a shareholder suggested to ease tensions. "Alright. Let's discuss our recent collaboration with the Cyton Group."

"Who reviewed this contract? It was approved even with so many issues. Doesn't the reviewer understand the company's situation? Does he even care about the company?"

I gazed at the document projected on the screen, the very one Andy had delivered to the hospital for Selena's review. It was clear that this meeting was targeted at her.

Andy presented an investment proposal to Selena and me, and both of them showed interest in the new company for an upcoming project. However, only Andy and Selena were optimistic about it. The rest of the group opposed the idea.
