Chapter 1398
Chapter 1398:
“She’s pregnant with Derek’s child—so what? What does that have to do with me? By the way, Norah is the one who really hit the jackpot. She became the eldest daughter of the Wilsons, and now she’s engaged to Sean,” Madeline said, her eyes lighting up as she changed the subject. “I used to pity her, but now it seems I’m the one who needs it. She’s not only secured a high status but found true love too. I heard she’s taken over Silver Boulder Private Hospital and has big plans for it.”
Sharon scoffed. “Norah, that naive girl, thinks she’s some highborn lady just because she’s back with the Wilsons? She is quite full of herself. It’s a shame about Silver Boulder Private Hospital. It’ll probably go under soon. Imagine a country girl thinking she can run a hospital.”
Marlene, knowing the full story, added, “Perhaps Miss Wilson is striving for everyone’s respect. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have put in so much effort.”
Madeline looked at Marlene and smirked. “But let’s not forget what happened back then—you had the nerve to pose as her. That was quite the spectacle.”
Marlene’s face stiffened, and she looked down, too embarrassed to respond.
Sharon said, “Norah is incompetent. I wonder how much she had to donate to get that job at the hospital. Maybe she realized she wasn’t cut out for more and settled for being the director. I’m curious to see how long it takes before she and the Wilsons face their downfall.”
Madeline stood and said, “I’m eager to see that too. Today’s conversation was surprisingly enjoyable, Sharon. When you’re not throwing insults my way, you’re quite entertaining. By the way, how’s the old lady these days? Has she passed away?”
In the Carter household, Madeline’s disdain was particularly directed at Juliana, who, leveraging her age and status, often tormented her. Madeline found herself wishing for Juliana’s demise daily.
Sharon’s voice was bitter as she said, “She’s close to dying. She had a stroke and is bedridden now, needing constant care. You’ve said enough. Now leave.”
Hearing this, Madeline felt a perverse thrill and departed from the Carter home feeling unusually buoyant.
Turning to Marlene with a stern expression, Sharon said, “You know our financial situation is tight right now. We can’t afford extra help, and since you’re home, you’ll need to take care of Juliana.”
Marlene nodded meekly. “Okay.”
Under her bangs, a glint of malice was barely perceptible, cleverly hidden from view.
The engagement of the Scott and Wilson families had captivated everyone in Glophia, with high anticipation for the union of these two influential families.
This arrangement would also greatly strengthen the Scott family’s standing.
Norah, caught up in hospital duties, found little time to foster her relationship with Sean. Meanwhile, Joanna had approached her to discuss a potential collaboration with her company’s cosmetics line. Norah had shared various formulations she had previously developed, allowing Joanna and her team to independently review them. They had meticulously hammered out the profit-sharing details, ensuring Norah wouldn’t be at a disadvantage.
In the director’s office of Peace Ark Private Hospital, Gil lounged on the sofa, laughing. “When do you plan to marry Sean?”
He glanced at some documents on the coffee table during their chat, a brief respite from his duties.
Norah looked away from her computer and said, “I’ve been so absorbed with the hospital that I haven’t had time to plan anything. The hospital takes precedence right now.”noveldrama
