Chapter 487
Chapter 487
"That's more like it, you could've just said so from the start..."
With that, Mamie looped an arm through Scales', practically skipping with glee towards the school gates. Scales' face stiffened as he tried to slip his arm away. But Mamie held on tighter, chuckling, "Oh, come on, don't be shy, we're all good pals here!" And with that, she picked up the pace. Scales was flabbergasted. "How is she so strong?!"
Just as they reached the school gates, they nearly bumped into Murray stepping out of his sports car, a cake box in hand.
Oh, boy!
Mamie frowned, "Why does he always park right at the entrance? Doesn't he realize it causes such a traffic jam?"
Scales pondered for a moment, "Maybe he thinks it looks cool."
"Cool? Because he can swing open the doors of a Porsche, drawing a crowd every time?"
"Perhaps?"
Mamie was incredulous, "You think that's cool?"
Scales shook his head, "In my family, driving a classic Mustang is considered the pinnacle of cool."
Mamie laughed, "Well, me, my Duke, and practically everyone in our neighborhood think a Lexus is the epitome of style."
So-

They exchanged puzzled glances, still not getting it.
But then Mamie's attention shifted. "That cake he's holding looks really tasty, though."
Seeing her swallow hard, Scales just sighed.
Murray, who'd made a habit of showing up at the school gates, had started recognizing Roseanne often in the company of Mamie and Scales. After several encounters, he had their faces memorized.
Murray approached directly, "Excuse me, where's Roseanne? Haven't seen her around."
Mamie was honest, "Roseanne's not here."
"Where is she?"
"She took the day off."
"What for?"
"That, we don't know," Mamie shrugged.
Murray frowned, wanting to probe further. But Mamie was already dragging Scales away, "We've got stuff to do, gotta run, sorry!"
Murray was left hanging, standing in
his fancy suit, holding a cake
e
decorated with cartoon minions. At that moment, outside the bustling university gates, he felt like a
complete clown!
Perhaps, this was Roseanne's way of getting back at him.
He scoffed, heading towards a trash can.
"Hey-"
Murray turned around.
There stood Grace, with a playful smile, "Ditching something again?"
The usual retort came, "None of your business."
"Last time it was flowers, now a cake. What's next?"
Annoyed, Murray could only frown, thinking they weren't close enough for this conversation.
But then, Grace went on, "The
flowers you tossed last time were pretty. picked them up, put them in a water bottle, and shared them with two other dorms. They thanked me a lot."
Murray looked up, genuinely surprised, "You actually picked them up?"
"Of course. You're not going to ask for money now, are you? Because that's a no-go. You discarded them, I claimed them, fair and square."
Murray was speechless.
"Since we've bumped into each other again, mind if I take the cake off your hands?"
Murray couldn't help but chuckle. "What, you're going to share it with others again?"
"Absolutely can't finish such a big
cake by myself, and our dorm doesn't have a fridge to store it. Might as well share it, who knows, maybe they'll be happy and treat me an ice cream?"
"Can't you afford your own ice cream?"
Grace's eyes sparkled with sincerity, "It never tastes as good as when someone else treats you."
"Why? Because it's free?"
"Yep!" She nodded eagerly.
Murray laughed, handing over the cake. Grace blinked in surprise.
"Don't want it?"
"I do, I do!" She quickly took it, her smile lighting up her face.
