Odds against me
Cayden
“When I newly came to Nedford, I messed around with lots of girls and that’s when I met her” I paused and continued “I had not even met you then at all”
“Oh, so you’re going to use that as an excuse? Did you think it was okay to just follow any girl that had a vagina around? So unbelievable” She remarked
“I’m hurt Cayden, this is too much for me to take in and I can’t handle it, and neither can I forgive you. You lied to me and that’s not okay”
“Lily, when did I lie? I found out the same time you did and I’m here trying to smoothen things..”
“When did you lie? Are you asking me that?”
I didn’t answer because it was a trap
“I should have believed Jake when he brought the information about your wife and child”
“I don’t have a wife and a child, Lily”
“But you have a child in the way, yes or yes? I should have trusted Jake’s information and never let you close to me, now everything has blown over in my face just right after we had sex! Perfect timing!” Her breath was heavy.
“I fell in love with you and now I’m hurt. I should have protected my heart and kept my distance. This is a lot of hurts for one person to go through Cayden. How do you want me to handle this, huh? Just imagine I got pregnant too, there would be no difference between your “baby mama to be” and myself. I hate that this is happening! I just.. I…” She paused and tried to breathe, calming herself down. I’m sure she was tired already. I hated that I was putting her through all of this.
I tried to hug her but she stopped me. I just had to respect her and keep my distance from her.
She walked to the fridge and grabbed a tequila and shots cup. Seems like she needed some moral support.
“I’m going to figure this out Lily, I’m sure I’m not the father and I’m going to do a paternal test to prove that but it can only happen when the child is born”
She stared at me, taking another shot. “So I’m going to have to wait for months to know if you’re mine? Do you even understand how long that is?”
“I’m already yours Lily and I’ve been telling you that, I won’t still stop saying it. I’m yours, Lily, no matter what happens. I’m not gonna let this come between us, please let me figure it out”Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
She just looked at me silently. Her stare was killing me
Jacek came in from the room inside
“Mama, you’re closed already?”
“Candy, who told you to come here?”
“Grandma said you’d be here, I was missing you, mommy.”
She giggled
“Come give mummy a hug”
Jacek raced into his mum’s arms. She was happy to see him but the pain in her eyes was still visible.
“Uncle Cayden!!!” He screamed and came to hug me too. She was not happy about that but can you blame a child for his innocence?
“Why are you and mommy here alone? Don’t you want to come up?”
“Baby, Uncle Cayden and I are having some grown-up talk”
“Ugh, boring!”
We all laughed. Jacek was a bundle of joy, seeing how he lightened up the mood in a few seconds.
“Come upstairs with me, please?”
“I’ll come to meet you there Candy, this talk is very important and Uncle Cayden needs to leave soon”
“Oh” His mood changed “but why do you have to go? You’ve not come to visit me and mommy in a while”
Lily didn’t plan on covering for me, she wanted me to respond to that question myself.
“Umm, Uncle Cayden has wronged mummy and he needs to make up for that first”
“But have you apologized?”
“I have a baby but it’s more complicated than that. Grown-ups make a lot of messed up decisions”
“Oh, I hate grown-up stuff. I don’t ever want to grow up.”
I chuckled “well, not all grown-ups mess up this bad Jacek. You’ll do fine, you’ve got nothing to be worried about.”
“Okay,” He said.
“Alright candy, time for you to go back home”
She gave him kisses all over his face and he giggled continuously..”I’ll see you shortly baby”
“Okay mama”
We watched him go up the stairs and she continued;
“Despite being mine, you still hurt me. There’s nothing you can do about that Cayden, what’s done is done.”
“Come on Lily. Don’t dismiss my feelings like that”
“Dismiss? Is that what you think is happening here? This is the sound of a woman who’s heartbroken, disappointed, hurt, and regretful, how else do you want me to explain that?”
“Fine, fine, I get your point”
A man walked
“Hey, are you guys still open?”
“No, I’m sorry”
“Oh, please is there anything I can get that’s maybe leftover? I’ve been looking for where to get something but seems like everywhere is closed and I’m exhausted, just coming from work”
“I’m sorry about that but were closed”
“Pleaaaaaase?” He dragged
“Alright, let me check”
“Thank you so much”
He walked in and grabbed a seat to wait.
Lily microwaved something for him, I couldn’t see. Looked like a burrito anyway and a burger, and then she added a milkshake; such a caring lady. She packaged it and summoned the man to the counter. She took his credit card and paid for it with it
“Thank you so much!!! I’m extremely grateful”
“You’re welcome”
He walked away, feeling fulfilled. Lily walked back to where I was and sat down.
There was an awkward silence that followed.
“That was nice, what you did for that man”
She didn’t say anything.
“Say something nice please, the silence is killing me”
“I wish it did, then I would know that the only I’m not with you is because you’re dead”
Ouch! Those words stung worse than a bee.
