Chapter 34 Compensation
All eyes turned towards Maggic as she held her handbag, her long dress devoid of hidden pockets,
“Maggie…” Olivia spoke gently, her expression troubled.
“I understand,” Maggie replied without hesitation, showing understanding. She proactively opened her. handbag and handed it to Ronald, who stood beside her. “Dad, you can check it.”
Ronald glanced at the small handbag, its contents simple and clearly visible at a glance. There was only a mobile phone, a pack of tissues, and lipstick.
Maggie explained, “Mom prepared this handbag for me when I went upstairs to the banquet hall. It was specifically matched to this dress,”
The implication was that everything had been arranged by someone else, leaving her with no opportunity to carry anything else.
“So you came prepared and disposed of the dagger early! Yes, it must be like this. Mom, once you thoroughly investigate the hotel, you will definitely find…” Sierra wanted to say more, but Ronald scolded her. “Enough! Have you caused enough trouble? How many more people do you want to make a laughingstock of yourself?”
“Dad, you don’t believe me!”
For the first time, Sierra felt defenseless, but the problem was that no one believed her.
“Alright. Let someone take her home first and let her calm down,” Madam Cameron said, feeling tired and speaking earnestly.
Sierra glared fiercely at Maggie. From an angle others couldn’t see, Maggie curved her red lips and gave her a provocative smile, which only made Sierra angrier.
—
After Sierra was taken away, Maggie seemed down. In response to Olivia and Madam Cameron’s words, she deliberately acted absent–minded and didn’t pay attention.
“Maggie, I am talking to you. Have you heard about the Herschire Cultural Park, the government’s project? If our family can secure it, are you confident in handling it well?” Madam Cameron frowned and asked again.
“What?”
Maggie seemed to snap back to reality. Her eyes were red, and she looked like she was about to cry.
Ronald added, “Have you heard about the Herschire Cultural Park project? It’s the most important cultural industry project that the government is focusing on this year. If our family can secure it, we can establish connections with the government.”
Maggie still nodded absentmindedly, showing little interest.
Upon hearing this, Maggie looked at Madam Cameron. Her eyes were even redder.
“Grandma. I just don’t understand why Sierra, who grew up with me since childhood, would do this?” Maggie choked up and said it as if she had been holding it in for a long time.
Her watery eyes stared at Madam Cameron, filled with sadness and confusion.
Madam Cameron paused, not expecting this incident to have such a profound impact on her.
“I know I’m not worthy of my status, so I never compete with Sierra. I liked the house in Bulverton Residence, but Sierra liked it, so I gave it to her. I cherished every piece of jewelry Mom gave me, but if Sierra wanted it, I didn’t keep any of it. I also like fashion design. Sierra said she wanted the Luxe Couture, so I didn’t mention it.”
“But Grandma, can you tell me why? Why did Sierra treat me like this in the end? I thought we had grown up together since we were young. Even if we’re not blood–related, we’re closer than many real sisters. But…”
Halfway through her words, Maggie choked up and stopped, lowering her eyes as if she didn’t want to bring it up anymore.
Ronald, Madam Cameron, and Master Cameron exchanged glances, clearly dissatisfied with the trouble Sierra had caused before.
Maggie had always been tolerant and well–behaved. Now that she had finally exploded, it was obviously unbearable.
Master Cameron fell silent for a moment before saying, “Maggie, you know how we have treated you all. these years. Sierra is young and ignorant. I did not expect you to suffer so much. You are also a child, and if you have any grievances, you should tell me…
“If you like the house in Bulverton Residence, I will ask Sierra to transfer it to you later. That house was originally meant for you. And those jewels–let Olivia retrieve them from Sierra. How can she take her sister’s things everywhere? As for the Luxe Fashion Company, which is currently under Sierra’s name, she is just playing with it out of novelty. She will hand it over later.”
Olivia’s heart tightened after listening to Master Cameron. She turned to look at her husband and mother- in–law.
Ronald also felt they had given Maggie too much this time, but they still needed her. As the saying goes, one must pay a certain price to accomplish something. Moreover, Maggie had never taken anything from Cameron all these years.
Realizing that his father always thought ahead, Ronald agreed and said, “Listen to Grandpa. Maggie, event though you are the older sister, you cannot spoil Sierra like this. If you are ever wronged in the future, you
must tell us.”
Tears welled up in Maggie’s eyes as she looked at them in a daze, as if she had just realized it. She shook her head and said, “I cannot accept it. I am not your biological child. You have given so much to raise me all these years. How can I take these things?”
“If you say that, I will be angry!/Even though your surname is Adam, you are still our child!” Ronald said firmly.
Seeing this, Olivia forced a smile despite the pain in her heart. “Yes, you should accept it.”
“Well… okay then.” Maggie reluctantly agreed.
They comforted Maggie a while longer until she seemed to calm down.
“I saw Leo talking to you today. What did he say?” Olivia asked gently. Despite being busy with Sierra’s affairs, she had not forgotten to keep an eye on Maggie,
“He also mentioned the Herschire Cultural Park,” Maggie replied, redirecting the conversation to the Herschire Cultural Park project. Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Upon hearing this, the Camerons frowned.
“Are the Calebs also competing?”
This was certainly not good news. After all, they had heard about the strategies employed by this illegitimate son of the Calebs.
In affluent families, there are numerous children. Those who can rise to power despite being illegitimate are exceptional individuals.
“No, we cannot afford to lose the Herschire Cultural Park project. We have not undertaken any significant projects in the past two years. If this continues, our long–standing enterprise’s reputation will not endure much longer,” Master Cameron said solemnly, his expression grave.
Maggie knew that the Camerons‘ success was not a result of incompetence but rather of their astute tactics.
“Maggie, you should thoroughly research and plan the design of the Herschire Cultural Park. Once we secure the bid, we need to present the design proposal promptly,” Master Cameron instructed again.
“Okay, no problem.”
