Chapter 360
But this rascal just made Miranda's smile widen.
"You're so amusing."
She'd met plenty of people, but Elian was the first man who often seemed adorably fuzzy to her. And this cuteness was a stark contrast to his usual self. This contrast hit her right where it counted.
Elian could clearly sense that Miranda's attitude towards him was shifting. This change was drawing her closer, more intimate. It made his earlier jealousy vanish.
Yet he couldn't resist furrowing his brow and muttering, "What's so amusing?"
Miranda glanced at the food stalls still parked outside her villa and suddenly asked, "Do you really having feelings for me?"
Elian pressed his lips together, a low "yeah" escaping his throat.
Miranda teased him, "What if there's someone else I'm into? Would you be okay with being the other guy?"
Elian's face darkened, teeth gritted. "I'm all about pure love!" Then he sighed, "But if it comes to that, I'm okay I guess."
Miranda was left speechless. Taken aback, she turned to Elian in surprise. "You'd actually be the other guy?"
Elian, brimming with confidence, replied calmly, "If it means I can win you over eventually, why not? A man should know when to bend and when to stand tall."
Miranda had only meant to tease Elian in passing, never expecting him to have such little shame.
Elian, having never pursued a girl before or had much interaction with them aside from Celeste, was probably wary of girls because of Celeste's annoying nature. Even though there were girls at the base, their roles were different. They were comrades, brothers-in-arms. Naturally, the interactions were different.
Only in front of Miranda did his raw emotions and a wildly growing possessiveness leave him unable to control himself. Like a fierce young wolf, he was furiously marking his ter ory, determined to claim it-by whatever means
necessary.
Miranda rubbed her nose, pondering for a moment. "Actually, I..."
Elian quickly shifted the topic, seemingly afraid to hear what he didn't want to hear.
"How long have they been here?" he asked, looking at the food stalls outside. Miranda's gaze lingered on Elian's face for a moment before she looked outside as well. "Two days now. They're from Timothy."
Elian frowned. "Are they brainless?"
Miranda smirked. "It's pretty remote here, they're doing what they can. Hiding in the shadows is too exhausting. If my enemies can find this place, it doesn't really matter if they're out in the open or not
Elian considered another possibility. "Or maybe they're making a statement. Letting everyone know you're under the protection of the Ardenza military. Messing with you is messing with them."
Miranda paused, and then curled her lips. "You might be right."
"I heard about the military's discussions. You're now under their special protection detail. From now on, your safety is their responsibility, so expect to have them around you all the time," Elian said solemnly.
Miranda frowned. "That's such a hassle. Can't you tell them I don't need their
protection? I can handle myself."
Elian laughed. "That's something you'll have to negotiate with them."
"You're practically a national
treasure now. I heard from my grandfather that the medicine you provided has been distributed, and everyone's showing improvement. Because of this, the military won't let anything happen to you," Elian explained, his tone becoming more serious. "But the Ardenza military is not the only ones with this illness, so both the legal and illegal sides are looking for you. It's only natural they pay extra attention."
Elian mused to himself. "Maybe I should request a sniper rifle for you, you're good with it after all."
Miranda twitched her lips. "No need, I'm much more comfortable with my silver needles."
Hearing this, Elian instinctively glanced at her wrist. At the sight of the silver bracelet he had given her, a faint grin appeared on his lips.noveldrama
"Fair enough."
Miranda opened the car door. "Alright, I should head back."
Elian watched her, his gaze never leaving her, his deep eyes filled with emotions that seemed capable of engulfing everything.
And Miranda could feel that emotion enveloping her from behind, which wanted to draw her in yet testing the waters cautiously.
Suddenly, Miranda paused, raising her left hand without turning. "This is quite useful, I really like it."
Elian's eyes brightened slightly. She smiled gently, continuing, "Just like you, I quite like you too."
What do you think?
