Chapter 843 I’m Getting Married
Chapter 843 I’m Getting Married
"I'm a psychiatrist, and I overheard your conversation with the doctor. Why don't we exchange numbers? If you visit me at my office, I'll examine you," the man offered.
The man was bald and had a greasy face. His frivolous eyes scanned her up and down as if he were bestowing some great favor upon her.
"No need. My mind is fine," Chloe replied with a polite but clear refusal, her discomfort apparent.
"Don't be ungrateful," he snapped, his tone becoming unpleasant. "Do you have any idea how many people line up just to get an appointment with me every day? I'm offering this to you for your own good. Don't wait till you’re sick in the head before you come and beg me to examine you.”
"You call yourself a doctor when your mouth is as foul as a toilet bowl? My friend isn't sick, so don't you dare curse her!" Emily responded, her anger bubbling over. Her words were sharp, and she clearly picked up the man's malicious intent.
"You’re in a hospital, so aren’t you sick?" the sleazy man mused, stroking his chin and tutting in disapproval. "Could it be some kind of dirty infection from your promiscuous activities?"
"Repeat yourself if you dare…" Chloe challenged, her eyes narrowing as she stared at him fiercely. Fueled by her headache, her anger was ignited. Normally, she would dismiss such a person without a second thought, but today she refused to back down. The more she thought about his words, the angrier she became.
"Repeat myself? Sure, I'll repeat it," the man taunted, his voice dripping with scorn. "I think you're selling your body. At such a young age, you're already carrying an LV bag. What else could you have possibly relied on if not men—”
Before he could finish his sentence, Chloe's high heels slammed down on his foot. He howled in pain and raised his hand to strike her. Chloe, having anticipated this reaction, grabbed Emily and turned to flee, only to run into a warm chest.
"Fuck off now. I don't want to have to get rough with you," Joseph warned, his eyes icy as he protectively shielded Chloe in his embrace.
"You… You’re going to fight in a hospital? I'll call security and have you thrown out!" the man threatened, defiance mixing with the fear in his eyes. This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
"Shoo, shoo! Go and call them. Stop disturbing my father." Jasper peeked out from behind Joseph, his young face showing clear contempt.
The man snapped back as he felt his dignity challenged by a child, "Just wait. My uncle is the Dean of this hospital. I'll have you all kicked out!"
"You're a grown man tattling to his elders? How shameless." Jasper sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. He then turned to Chloe with a cool, self-assured smile. "Long time no see, Ms. Chloe. Are you feeling unwell? My dad just happens to be here too. Looks like you two are fated.”
Chloe nudged Joseph, a hint of embarrassment in her eyes. "You can let go of me now. Thank you."
Feeling her gentle touch, Joseph reluctantly released her. "What's wrong? What brought you here for a checkup?"
"Just a headache. It’s nothing serious," Chloe replied, putting a respectable distance between them.
“Daddy has a headache too, from insomnia. He hasn't slept for days, and the doctor warned that he's on the brink of collapse. Ms. Chloe, could you please convince him to get some rest?" Jasper pleaded as the innocent look in his eyes masked his slyness.
Chloe softened as she looked at the child and her earlier anger subsided. "I’m just lacking rest, nothing more."
"Lack of rest?" Joseph questioned, his concern apparent. "Did Noah really not mistreat you?"
"Why would he mistreat me?" Chloe countered, a puzzled look in her eyes.
Joseph was momentarily stunned. He frowned. "With everything you know, he'd surely want to keep you close."
"I don’t understand what you’re saying. All I know is that I'm doing well right now."
"Do you truly not understand or are you just pretending? If you have other plans, tell me. We can work on them together."
"There's nothing to discuss. I'm getting married in three days, so don't speculate any further. Let's end things between us," Chloe said calmly. She did not want to dredge up past conflicts, especially in front of the child, and her grace was evident in her poise.
